Why Don't You Do Right (Album Version)

Transgressive Records have announced details of a very special Songhoy Blues release. Available digitally, the single features a Julian Casablancas edit of Petit Metier and a live version of Al Hassidi Terei, recorded at their sold-out London Koko show in November of last year.

The band re-recorded the vocals for Petit Metier last August and Casablancas has been working on the new production with engineer and mixer Shaun Everett (Alabama Shakes / Weezer) while Al Hassidi Terei was mixed by the band’s front-of-house engineer Leon Pearce and perfectly captures the live energy of the bands incendiary performances.

Having fallen for the band in 2014, Casablancas invited the band to tour with his band The Voidz in November 2014. His label, Cult Records, subsequently partnered Atlantic Records in the U.S. to release their debut album, Music In Exile, in 2015.

Cult Records will also subsequently release the single as a limited edition 7” in the U.S. 

Additionally, this week the band have been announced as winners in the ‘Newcomer’ category at the 2016 Songlines Awards. The band were previously nominated in the ‘Best New Band’ category at last 

Finally, having made their first appearance in London in July 2014 at the Servants Jazz Quarters, the band play The Roundhouse in London at the end of this month on Saturday 21st May 2016 – a staggering ascent for any band. 

The show billed as ‘Songhoy Blues presents ‘Music in Exile’ - a celebration of music from Mali and beyond’, also features a performance from special guest FATOUMATA DIAWARA and appearances from Blick Bassy and United Vibrations and a DJ set from The Invisible’s Dave Okumu.
