We wrote this song four years ago and dedicated it to Lou Reed. On "Feeling Hands" we were inspired by him but used his vibes and edginess as inspiration for our own thing. When we heard this morning in Hayam Japan (where we currently are) that he had passed, we thought that sharing this version of Lou Reed was very necessary. For this version we wanted to pay homage to the maestro without interweaving our identities too much. This version of Ode to Lou is for Lou... rearranged and reconceptualized... we hope it evokes the spirit of the great artist that Lou Reed was. RIP Lou. Art by Sarah Mattson

Guitarchestra- Quite simply Guitarchestra implies that one creates orchestral sound with guitars. It can be defined as the means by which orchestral sound is achieved using guitars and their variants (i.e. 6-string electric/acoustic guitars, 12- string electric guitars, bass guitars, lap steel guitars, and electric baritone guitars). Get ready to hear a whole lot of guitars.
This piece was a result of enrolling in the UC Irvine Integrated Improvisation, Composition, and Technology (ICIT) program. My MFA thesis topic examined the guitarchestra in the context of performance, composition, improvisation, and production. Every aspect of this piece embodies these zones. Presenting, contrasting, and balancing the wide variety of guitar tone is what I call, "Guitarchestration." -Jared G. Mattson

The Graveyard Has No Color (Guitarchestra)

This is a short documentation of a special engagement we did for our friend and genius suit maker, Taishi Nobokuni. He brought a new element to our feel and vibe as Mattson 2 by revamping our image to what he thought should be the next natural progression. We thought it would only be fitting to follow a similar trajectory with our sound... with that said, we performed a quiet acoustic set at his studio in Ginza, Tokyo for a private audience of 100 people. Jonathan played ride cymbal and snare while I played acoustic guitar through a small vintage danelectro amp (compliments of Akito Katayose of Great 3. We will always remember that night and may post more from that show as the world gets older and time drags on. He is an inspiring person and we are happy to continue collaborating. Hope you dig. On Sleepers dream delight

This is a song on "Feeling Hands" performed By M2 (still buy it on iTunes), plus Tom on upright bass, and Monty Valier (the engineer) lays down some really subtle organ/synth pads. Listen for these. Brian Archinal, a mfa percussionist who studied with the great Steven Shick plays the timpani drums... really gets into a hectic wipe-out mode... My guitar was recorded with 3 different amps so I got a lot of different tones... listen for my loop improvisation layering in the middle (i used a roland 20xl for the loops) my loving/lovable twin, Jonathan laid down some killer drums as he always does, he was referencing motown but as you can hear... something else very original happened... J-rad of M2 tuning out... XOXO
