Listeners familiar with Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith's previous album Euclid (an album that prompted Dazed to call her "…one of the most pioneering musicians in the world.") will no doubt notice her heavier use of vocals on her new album EARS.  On all but one song, her gently ecstatic swells of vocals emerge to soar over a dense jungle of synths and woodwinds.

After initially composing on a Buchla analog synth, she wrote arrangements for a woodwind quintet, added vocals, and further refined the pieces with granular synthesis techniques she developed in her sound design work (she contributed sound design to Panda Bear's "Boys Latin" video, and handled sound design and original compositions for Brasilia co-written by and starring Reggie Watts).   

Kinetic arpeggios of synths pulse, often buoying her graceful vocal mantras, while woodwinds breathe and flutter, emulating the wildlife Smith observed while growing up on the West Coast (she even studied recordings of slowed down bird calls prior to composing these pieces).   Though some of her gestures echo the musical tropes used by early minimalist composers, the world she creates on EARS is uniquely hypnotic and full of life, not unlike Miyzaki's film Nausicaä, which she cites as an inspiration.

just noticed that there is a kinda hidden Comeback of this unique
electro funky breaks stuff... reall<3 Cool...and i`m so happy that i
kept this Vinyl Collection over more than 20 yrs they are Gold now ;)
so stays THIS REALLY MUSICALLY AND ROCKIN´
SOUND wich will never die!! !and even comes to new Life again

das jahr 2003 war der höhepunkt in der entwicklung der NU SKOOL BREAKS
welche nachfolger waren von big beat / breakbeat (entwickelt von z.b.chemical brothers,fatboy slim...ab 1998)
diese junge bewegung kam hauptsächlich aus england und australien und teilte
sich in die bereiche technoide ,electro -und trancige/spacige breaks..
(adam freeland,hybrid,rennie pilgrim,fretwell,general midi,luke chable...)
und die mehr analogen,acidhousigen funky breaks mit soul,hip hop und dub....uvm
(plump dj´s,meat katie,JDS,Soul of man,lee coombs,drummatic twins...)
diese musik ist musikalisch,ultra-tanzbar funky,rockt und macht viel spass.
in deutschland fand sie kaum beachtung hauptsächlich nur in england,
süd spanien und ungarn und australien  gab es eine szene...
ein freund von intergroove germany infizierte mich 2002 mit diesem"geheimtipp"und von
da an kaufte ich fast jede dieser  platten die ich kriegen konnte
was ziemlich schwierig war ab und zu legte ich ein set nur mit
NU SKOOL BREAKS auf,oder aber mischte immer wieder solche
platten in meine techno-sets.
nur deshalb kann ich heute auf eine grosse nu breaks vinyl collection
zurückgreifen...diese völlig zeitlose und eigenständige musik die ich
immer mal wieder gerne rauskrame um mit freunden richtig spass zu haben.
so auch bei dieser session...spass,den ich sehr gerne mit euch teilen möchte
also viel spass und wenn ihr mehr davon wollt gebt mir bescheid ;)
