With our 15th release on Earthly Measures, we do something a bit different as we welcome Panamanian artist Novad to the EM family for a 5 track tropical EP all available for free download !

With Káyira, Novad offers us a tropical fusion. The EP contains two Afro inspired tracks, using live instruments including the Kora & Balafon. From the light percussion of Frente al Río, to the heavy beats of Triturando el Alma, this EP offers something for everyone, with fresh unique groovy rhythms, ready for the dance-floor & beyond.

Novad is a young producer/singer/multi-instrumentalist from Panamá who first started playing flute at the age of 6. His music is inspired by Caribbean and Latin culture, using exotic instruments such as Marimbas in his compositions, as well as on occasion adding his voice to his music.

Living in Turkey for 7 years, I came across many moments where I was enjoying my favorite music and the daily prayer would just pop up and match the musical key of the track I was listening.

Those moments I always felt that prayers would sound better and attract more people if they were accompanied by music!

And so, one day I received this qasida (a laudatory, elegiac, or satiric poem in Arabic, Persian and other various related literatures, sometimes performed in a musical form) performed by hafiz and master singer Kani Karaca.

While I stayed in awe with the mastery of his voice in a surprising way, the song that played right after was the classic "A Taste of Honey" from Legendary Paul Desmond and in my ears... they totally matched!

So I put the two together, with a few twitches and tweaks, cuts and pastes and a treatment of the sound and this mashup came up.

I still believe that prayers would be more fun and attract more people to this wonderful practice if accompanied by music.

Hi!
My name is Dimitri Dermencioglu and I am an artist who "lives in music".

Throughout 32 years in the world of music, I have changed many hats and have been known under different names.

All those names turned into temporary personas/projects that gifted me with extensive experience in the areas of music, celebration and ritual, also took me around the world.

Today, my experiences, has become a school of thought, study and practice
that I call "Frequency Lifestyle".

"The Music Medicine" is the last project/persona I have been known for.

A living experience in the exploration, study and sharing of diverse musical approaches and schools of thought/practice, blending and influenced by tradition and modernity, spirituality & and science, celebration & and meditation.

A living school of the science and mysticism of medicinal music, as practised around the world for aeons!

Whether through the mediums of ethnomusicology, music therapy, instrumentalism, composition, DJ ing, or event organisation, the mission of "The Music Medicine" is to use music and celebration as a learning process.

A way to bring people and cultures together, to awaken creativity and potential, to learn and to share the effects of music and sound that comes from the heart and eventually, to foster harmony & joy wherever it passes from!
