Café Mambo x Absolut 2021 Sunset Competition mix, as the brief stated 'Sunset' mix, so naturally, I thought I'd put a little spin on it... 'Ugly Sunset' - a term I stole from Comedian, Mike Gerbino in a show where he highlights a contrary argument to the commonly held belief that sunsets are always beautiful - 'That sunset has put an end to more beautiful days than you care to count'

Relatively open format (which is my vibe) portions of Disco, Soulful House, some mid-tempo Chill hop-style stuff with a sprinkling of music from Aotearoa (New Zealand) of which, I am from.
Mixed on technics 1210's, Serato, Phase, drumming and keys on the midi', A couple of 3 turntables mixes in there, some live flips by sampling, layering loops and then chopping note sequences on the midi. kept it funky with lots horns, percussion, and soulful vocals. I even threw in a little Paul Johnson tribute flip.

The ONternet winning electro swing sound clash mix

I was recently asked to submit a mixtape for Defected Records 'Unsung Heros, of which, I was entirely excited/apprehensive of having the opportunity to do so but with the added caveat of only having a total of 4 days to get it out - EEEK! - I love making mixtapes but loathe pressure!

Dubbed 'The Warm-up Mix', it's themed around being the 'set before the set'. I wanted it to be fluid but work within an arc - starting slow, melodic and moving up and down the bpm and energy as if to keep people guessing where it was going whilst still holding a flow.

Music-wise, I shoehorned in nearly 30 tracks over the hour using inspiration from a wide range of genre's including: Hip Hop, Funk, Disco, varying house, Acid, Techno, Cuban, Afro & Dancehall to name a few. The bpm's range from 90bpm all the way up to 130. There is an emphasis on the low end with lots of deep funky bass, big chunky snares and melodic uplifting vocals were also a must! I wanted to use original samples from featured tracks as I love crowd reactions from doing this and it's a subtle live history lesson for the masses, in summary, it's a smorgasbord of tracks I personally feel bang presented in a dope style (obviously open for interpretation there...)

Learning that he would forever be judged on his creative endeavors he vowed never again to allow his freedoms to be publicly scrutinised.
Newly surfaced evidence shows that Mr Goodman had a hidden musical secret, a vice that only a dedicated few were privy too, Intermittently he used to sneak away from his sold -out concerts, dressed incognito in trendy Aramani suits and sparkling jewellery bound for one of London's shadiest venues, A place where coloreds mixed with the elites, the pungent smell of opium filled the halls and prohibition did not exist. Where was this they ask? This was the...  LONDON GARAGE SCENE - JAZZ LONDON!

The ONternet - Live mix from 'The Goldie Sessions' night @GoldieEstate - Nu-Disco, Rare Groove & Funk House

Relatively open format (which is my vibe) with a cross-spread of 'under-the-radar' new releases and played-out classics respectively. I shoehorned in 46 tracks over the just-shy-of-two-hours mix pulling inspiration from a wide range of genre's including: Hip Hop-inspired flips, Nu-Disco, Funk'd-out house, Cuban, Afro & Deep House with a reserved amount of technical DJ'ing stuffs inc - scratching, word-play and tone-play. etc..
Kept it funky with lots horns, percussion, and soulful vocals - even threw in a little Mac Miller tribute by flipping his 'What's The Use' acapella with @dice_nz 'Dear Liam' track - perfect! 

Played on technics 1210's, Serato w Phase, drumming and keys on the midi.

The first half of the 20th century saw periods of prohibition of the bottle in several countries around the world.
Prohibition became increasingly unpopular during the Great depression, with Bootleggers, Rum runners and organised crime syndicates
cashing in on this, the streets were a muck but the speakeasy's flourished making way for an extraordinary time for music, a time of elegance,
grandeur and down right naughtiness.

If the prohibition of alcohol been allowed to evolve like that of marijuana, many of us out there would not have a source of income.
NO bars, no clubs and no venues, means no Dj's. Pheeeew!!!

This mix attempts to translate the period of prohibition in the United States, from inception to ratification and the dry bits in between.
