Billy Bibby & The Wry Smiles are a four-piece band from North Wales/North West UK comprised of Billy Bibby/lead vocals, guitar; Thomas Hill/lead guitar; Matt Thomas/bass, vocals; and Ailis Mackay/drums. Since playing their first full band gig in November of 2015, it's been non-stop with close to 100 gigs and festivals in 40+ UK cities, combined with the release of a début EP and three follow-up singles. Hard work is paying off in the form a growing, grassroots fan base, as well as music industry recognition via two grant wins from Horizons/BBC Launchpad and Arts Council of Wales to further fuel new music development, touring, and promotion. 

Billy Bibby & The Wry Smiles have caught the attention of numerous tastemakers including Adam Walton of BBC Introducing, Clint Boon, Phil Clifton, and Jo Good of Radio X, Tim Cocker of Virgin Radio UK, Jim Gellatly of Amazing Radio, NME, BBC Radio Wales, and over 100 radio and media outlets in the UK and abroad. 

Manchester legend Clint Boon describes the band's music as "that classic sort of British songwriting with a strong nod to Americana" naming Elvis Costello and Bruce Springsteen as points of reference and predicting "a massive future". The band's influences remain diverse and ever-changing, both classic and cutting edge, with new songs constantly being added to the live repertoire. Come to a gig and experience the band at their very best!

Although the band formed recently, reviewers consistently remark that the group chemistry and level of musicianship are such that they play like a veteran ensemble. Bibby has clearly surrounded himself with talent. Experience also plays a key role considering Bibby's history as a UK Platinum Certified recording artist with Catfish and the Bottlemen, bringing to bear seven years of gigging and songcraft to every show and in every heartfelt song he's written.

Where on earth to begin! Well originally Joe, Phil and former member Matt started to write some songs, the idea was that they’d write one just to prove they could! But then they wrote 5 more and decided maybe it was time to play them to people. Originally set to open the event, attention at the Lomax was very much on what was then known as ‘Red Hot Winter’ don’t ask them why...they still don’t know, and the band went to do a 3 piece headline acoustic set, where they played 5 acoustic originals and 3 covers. It was messy, it was drunken but it was a catalyst to write more, work harder and gig, gig gig!
So fast forward a few years and a line up change, those three plus Chris, and Greg recorded ‘Blood, Sweat and Kimchi’, a 4 track EP with band friend Jose Ibanez, it was warmly received by critics, and set a marker for the band going ahead.
The Band began working with Sugarhouse who decided that ‘Real World’ should be the next release, recorded over two days, Real World is still regarded as one of the strongest in the setlist, prompting a lyric video and number one slots on various local independent radio shows.
So to 2017, after Matt, Chris and Greg had moved on the band recruited Shan and James Rowan, formerly of Liverpool punks Last Reserves, and they set about writing new music, but before they had chance to do so, James left for University in Leeds, and we are proud to say graduated! Dave and Jim completed the line up and ‘Leave it All behind’ was written, demo’d and recorded inside a year, bringing together some of the strongest bunch of songs the guys had ever written!
The future...they guess thats up to you!
