Dekmantel Selectors 2021 was a much needed musical reunion. After the preceding period of stillness, the catharsis and pure joy of finally being together again has been overwhelming. In the words of Simo Cell: "It's 7pm, and I have 5 missed calls on my phone: 'We're expecting massive rain tonight and we will have to close your stage earlier, is it okay for you to play earlier?' No time to stress and to think about it. I left my place and started my set straight away. From a few people to a packed dancefloor, I built up slowly from 90bpm to 160bpm (you know the drill). Pretty happy about the progression of the set and the rise in intensity. In the end, the crowd turned into a mosh pit on XXXtentacion and I had the best time behind the decks. It's good when things sometimes happen spontaneously like that. And it didn't rain after all."

This set was recorded at Public Records in NYC. In Your Dirty Ears currently hosts a residency at Public Records. Amelia also hosts a bi-monthly radio residency on @movement-radio-athens.

Celebrating their seventh birthday this December, Huntleys + Palmers is a club series and record label that never strays far from the Truants radar. Moving between Glasgow and London, and headed up by Andrew Thomson, it has slowly become a cult institution, bringing the most interesting strains of electronic music to the fore. Their afrofuturist Highlife parties, set-up with regular H&P affiliate Auntie Flo, have been described by Auntie Flo himself as a challenge to ‘the Western-centic perspective on electronic music’. Huntleys + Palmers excel in the changing the focus across their main club series as well with a booking policy that's both refreshingly challenging and diverse, whether they're hosting Thursday night proceedings at Shoreditch's Plastic People, or venturing further afield to other venues and cities. The fact that they were early champions of PC Music’s SOPHIE (whether you’re a fan or not) speaks to how daring Huntleys + Palmers are, never afraid to put their money where the emerging talent is. This strong sense of identity has earned them the respect of other labels and some of the most widely respected selectors: Kompakt cite how essential Huntleys + Palmers is for such a young label, Jackmaster claimed that they're his current favourite, and both Jackmaster and Joy O featured forthcoming H+P material in their recent Beats In Space mixes. The label also recently announced a new monthly show on Rinse. With all that said, we're delighted that label head Andrew Thomson has provided the 106th Truancy Volume.

Hi! I am Amelia Holt. I am from a small town in Mexico called Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas. I have been living in NY for six years and currently reside in Greenpoint. 

A fun fact about me is I love watching erotic thrillers films.

Favorite music collective atm?

I recently visited Brussels and I am really loving the Club De Tour parties organized by Louis Vogue and Soumaya. The space is wide; it feels like an abandoned parking garage. The lineup was beautifully mixed with a few familiar names but mostly new, so I enjoyed the feel and discovery aspect of the party. 

Describe the vibe of your ideal party? Space? Smell? Drinks? Anything you can think of ;)

Space: So, I have been dreaming about partying in a public library (“biblio-tech”). The space should be active during the day as a regular library and then after closing would transform into an experimental /visual/ dance space. Anyone who wants to enter biblio-tech can by using their public library card ;) 

Drinks: Anything alcoholic infused with herbs and teas to make it “healthier”  - plus the kombucha from Magik City.

Smell: It will smell like culture and history in the making ;-P

Advice to beginning djs?

Do the happy hours! Both Bossa Nova Civic Club and Jupiter Disco have great happy hours and it's a good place to practice getting your hands on equipment. 
Also, go into a rabbit hole of music discovery on YouTube. I find so much music just by clicking the next recommended track.

Describe the best dj/live set you have seen this year? 

2020 has barely begun but the DJ set that blew me away was Miss Jay. She knows how to read a crowd and mix dance with hip hop selections.

Alien D - he just released a beautiful EP Sunday Painting, go check it out!

What is your prediction on the next music genre re-vamp 2020?

TRIP HOP please!

Describe the first moment where you had an epiphany about your love for music?

This has happened a few times, but perhaps the most inspiring time was at the Lost Soul x Sublimate boat party back in 2018. It was such an amazing location, a secret maze to get on the abandoned boat. The lineup was beautiful and the vibe, PLUS the sound of submerged vivid techno. I hope someone does something like that again. 

DJ dream of yours?

I want to build a DJ/ artist network that facilitates bookings and information between cities; a flow for people who don’t have agents and don’t know how to get booked.

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community?

More funds and support from the established institutions that allow djs/ promoters to throw residencies & one off parties. It is not easy to sustain a musical lifestyle in New York, so I am hoping there is a positive change in that.

A way to tell your story, to be part of a cultural archive and a sharing in folklore/ grassroots. Important to look at djng as a way to connect the dots between sounds and people (not capital).

Almost always parties put on by friends in places off the beaten path. Most memorably, any party that’s happened in the woods of Stanley Park.

Based in New York, Amelia Holt is a disc jockey and a collector with sophisticated taste. The way in which she pieces together a narrative through music is fascinating and this has perhaps been best showcased through a selection of mixtapes that's she's released online for the likes of Mitamine Lab and Knowing Something amongst others.

Her taste is far reaching and having spent time behind the counter of a record shop in New York she has amassed a wealth of knowledge. 

Recently Amelia launched a residency on Public Records' online radio and streaming platform Public Access on which she invites dj's to curate audiovisual material. It's a testimony to her own taste and her notion of curation.

There's a lot more to come from her but we'll let her tell you all about that for herself.

`I am currently enjoying the last weeks of summer in Upstate New York with my best friend and her family. I been taking it easy and planning some music projects for the next year and hopefully some traveling plans too.

I am also flying to Texas end of September to visit my family and spend the rest of 2020 there. Anyway, this mix is called Drive Thru, as it was made for the journey upstate. My favorite place to listen to music beyond the club is a car, since there are no limitations to how high you can pump up the volume.´
