AVIVX's musical path has taken him from Kazakstan to Tokyo and Tbilisi. The DJ and producer moved to the Japanese capital at the age of 21 to hone his craft at Red Bull Music Academy. After finishing, he found himself drawn to the magical city of Tbilisi - a haven for nightlife and musical activity. 

The music he plays and makes serve different purposes but they're both imbued with a sense of freedom. His DJ sets are designed to make your body move, he paints a colourful, uplifting tapestry of sounds from Chicago house and Dutch trance to Belgian new beat and Italo disco.

Conversely he describes his productions as "cerebral and conceptual" and more intended for home listening than the club, though listening to his debut EP we could imagine all of these tearing up a dance floor. Out on Rotterdam's Electronic Emergencies Dark Temple is packed with dynamic and infectious melodies that are guided by the sounds that inspire his DJ activities.

On top of his debut vinyl release, there's talk of a new queer party in Tbilisi that AVIVX will be helming so to celebrate both of these, we asked him to record a mix for us so you could get to know him that little bit better. Just as we expected it's vibrant and colourful, packed full of vocal house jams, bouncy acid cuts and sassy grooves to get you weekend-ready. Yes it may only be Tuesday but what of it...

Tbilisi-based music artist AVIVX attended the RedBull Music Academy Tokyo at only the age of 21, where his original music was described as distinctly unique, blurring the lines between East and West. His DJ-sets oscillate between Chicago house, New Beat, Italo, trance, techno old and new,  generating a vortex of playful queer techno euphoria. What remains constant throughout his sets is the touching, emotional melodies, grooves and vocals that immerse dancers in highly memorable and rewarding musical experiences. Lately he has been seen DJing at Berlin’s famous Wilde Renate, Buttons, Ficken3000, Cafe Luzia; Moscow’s Popoff Kitchen; Kazakhstan's ZVUK; Tbilisi’s Khidi, Drama Bar, Success among many others. His upcoming vinyl EP Dark Temple on Rotterdam's Electronic Emergencies label and Clone.nl distribution, is set out to become his biggest project to date.


Red Bull Music Academy: "Arenov makes music with a distinctly Central Asian twist. Imagine Lindstrøm-style space disco wafting through a bazaar from some chewed-up boombox. He’s a lover of classic psychedelic and progressive rock, which you can hear in his winding compositions. Just slightly lo-fi without obscuring his own brilliance, Arenov’s songs sound like the kind of long-lost records from the 80s that DJ Harvey might dig up and throw in a set. Almaty might not have the biggest electronic music scene, but we know that Avivx is definitely one of its best and brightest".
