Live from the spectacular Desert Hearts 1 Year Anniversary at La Jolla Indian Reservation in Southern California, this set weaves deep house and tech house over 3 hours plus from 9pm to a little past midnight on the closing night of the festival.

It was an honor to play such an amazing event!  Thanks to the Desert Hearts crew - Kristoff, Mikey Lion, Lee Reynolds, Matt (Marbs), David (Porkchop), Ryan (Deep Jesus), and what must have been 100+ volunteers to make the party all that it was.  I don't think I've ever seen so much art at an event, super impressive feel and vibe around all the art pieces and deco elements present.  Everyone was buzzing about it.  Such excellent organization and signage everywhere, it was really a sight to behold.  Many people were shocked by the high level of production at this event and the only reason I wasn't is that I have been to the 2 prior Desert Hearts events and also collaborated twice with the crew as "Tropical Hearts" - so... I had a feeling about this one :)  My expectations were high, and were still exceeded...

Last I want to thank the DH crew for letting me extend my set in Treavor's absence (his flight from Canada was cancelled) rather than filling in with someone not on the lineup.  I am biased of course but I believe you made the right call :)

Composer, producer, classical violist, guitarist, and arranger to A-list pop stars, John Metcalfe has always been a name worth seeking out. The Appearance of Colour presents Metcalfe as a recording artist -- as front man, maestro and manipulator of sounds. Moreover it's a 'proper' album, carefully crafted as a listening experience with a beginning, middle and end, in which no two tracks sound or feel the same.

To make the album, Metcalfe enlisted the support of a small 'repertory company' of trusted collaborators, including drummer Andy Gangadeen (The Bays, Chase and Status), bassist Ali Friend (Red Snapper), pianist Tom Cawley (Curios, Peter Gabriel) and singer Natasha Khan (Bat for Lashes). Metcalfe then meticulously assembled his arsenal of electronics, strings, guitars and layered vocals in his Oxford garage studio. The Appearance of Colour may share some of the programmed perfection typical of contemporary electronica, yet there's a 'played' feel that animates the tracks -- the sense of musicians giving everything they have in the first take.

To say the Reframe is excited to welcome Flash Atkins to the fold as guest selector to this the latest edition is an understatement. A mix that has been in the Reframes mitts since mid summer we have held onto this for the last few months exclusively airing in Reframe HQ waiting to unleash as the nights draw in and leaves turn golden. For this is a mix that is to be listened to and savoured, dedicate a couple of hours to one side, pour yourself your favourite accompaniment and kick back....

Every once in a while you venture on a collection of music so encapsulating or intriguing that inspires, influences and switches you onto new paths. Flash Atkins has readily achieved this with a genre defying amble through afro, Balearic, electronic, downbeat melancholy and beyond. A simply beautiful seamless selection spanning two hours.

Flash Atkins is the superheroe pseudonym of Ben Davis whose latest album was released on Paper recordings 'The Life and Times'. paper records is a label Ben is co-founder, he also is labe owner of shaboom and Blacktrax records. Flash Atkins was always on the Reframe radar given the unhealthy amount of money and time invested into his work and labels over the year

It's been an incredible summer! We toured UK festivals with our brand new live band, played a ton of DJ shows in Ibiza and met a whole load of amazing people along the way! In fact we got so caught up in it all that we completely forgot to post vol. 009 of our Highlights mix! So here it is, that lost tape, featuring massive tunes from NVOY, Shadow Child & Ben Pearce and our brand new Eton Messy Records signee Limits. We hope you enjoy it and we'll have vol. 010 ready for this time next month :)

Blonde - Highlights Vol. 009

After we premiered this lovely bit of aural work from Bird Of Paradise a little while back we kept in constant contact with the almighty feathered genius in the hope that he might one more grace our pages before too long. As luck would have it, he was pretty keen on the idea as well as dug himself away in his studio nest to emerge not too much later with a two hour mix filled with some of the finest sounds this side of the sun. Settle yourself in for a two hour aural journey courtesy of Bird Of Paradise and read on as we have a lovely bit of back and forth with him;

Yazz, inspite of her intentions has shown me that “Up” is the only way. Taylor hands me a cashie, full of those Garys both sides of The Park adore.

He holds my hand as we dance, maybe too tightly. I find a door, off the floor.

No Malcolm Tucker, but jeez times have changed. This is a castle, and not Halton Castle. There is glamour, blanquettes and lacking Roger On The Door. 

Then, again, a bassline, and the same and different smiley faces from that canal side. 

Just decades apart.
