“This mix has a load of recent releases out by artists and labels that have really been exciting me the last while, like Step Ball & Chain, Axces, Maara and Peaches to name a few. Mixed in with a few old school and other tracks close to my heart (Small Bear's 'Trance Analysis'), there's more styles of dance music in there than I'm usually comfortable with having together but they all seemed necessary. There's anything from trancey-happy house moments to the harder techno peak time ones, mainly though I'm hoping that the thing about each track that made me obsess over them came through for your ears. Jumping up the BPMs like that always excites me so I hope it does for those listening too.”

Ayebatonye is an experienced DJ, radio host, artist and Founder/Creative Director of the DIY arts and community platform Irregular Fit. Her involvement in the electronic music scene in Sydney and beyond is multifaceted and deeply rooted in empowering QTBIPOC/Bla(c)k artists and audiences through her work as a DJ, social/political commentator, educator and steady figure of Australia’s nightlife. Her DJ sets are not tied to a specific genre but always have one thing in common: a great appreciation for afro beats, electrifying percussion and a vibrant energy that is reflective of Ayebatonye’s contagiously positive and captivating personality. Via her platform Irregular Fit she is helping members of communities of colour to gain access to music ecologies, equipment and knowledge via DJ workshops, community events  and skill sharing opportunities. Irregular Fit has been supported by The Red Rattler Theatre, Beats by Dre, City of Sydney, Inner West Council and Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre among others.   

Community building has always played an important role for Ayebatonye as a motivation for her work, a coping mechanism and a form of resistance to the dominant culture. Through her work she wants to bring joy to herself and the people surrounding her but also release some of the emotional, physical and mental pressure that comes with the fact that this world is not necessarily made for her as a queer Black woman of Nigerian heritage.

At the moment Ayebatonye is working on a lot of mixes, preparing for the upcoming festival season in Australia and some commissioned playlists for the Art Gallery of NSW as part of the Mardi Gras Queer Art After Hours as well as more DJ workshops for Irregular Fit.

Seoul's Closet Yi is trying to find the harmony in the places where you'd least expect it.

Having cut her teeth at the Hyundai Card Music Library where she played librarian and resident DJ for two years, Closet Yi looks past genre in her music, favouring instead the creation of unique atmospheres and feelings.

Her crisp productions have so far found a home at Seoul's Honey Badger Records and London imprints No Bad Days & all my thoughts, with her most recent releases being singles anticipating her forthcoming EP.

When it drops in its entirety on the 27th April, 'Bmore Baby' will mark the inauguration of record label 'Curving Track', and constitute four luscious tracks with deeply satisfying, smooth-to-the-touch textures and warm, inviting tones. Expect raspy percussion and deep, full-bodied bass lines.

Her Shine A Light On mix continues in this textural exploration, transporting its listener to another cosmos where everything points to a future time apart from those few nostalgic elements that keep you grounded in familiarity.
