As a nation, the Irish have always had a profound relationship with the people of Palestine.

“Whether born from our own history of British colonialism and occupation, which has cost thousands of innocent lives or through our Connexxion of struggle for civil and human rights, which came to prominence in the North of Ireland in the late sixties just about the time that 20,000 Palestinians were murdered in the 1967 6 day war in Palestine. Ireland will always stand with Palestine and with other oppressed people around the world!  Whether you’re Palestinian, South African, Jewish , African American, Indian, Vietnamese, Iraqi or Afghani – Irish people will always be on the side of good– fighting against oppression and the removal of civil liberties and rights. But at this moment in time, it’s not about nationality or religion it’s about humanity – as an entire people stand on the precipice of extinction. 
 

As a proud Irish man and a citizen of planet Earth, to be silent (as we all bear witness in real time to the genocide of the Palestinian people) is not an option. It’s estimated that to date 35, 000 people have been slaughtered – 15,000 of them woman and children not including the bodies under the rubble and with more than 600,000 are on the brink of preventable starvation.

Our own Irish ancestors experienced a devastating famine exacerbated by the British occupation – when 1 million people starved to death and 1 million more emigrated. So as the Israeli government uses starvation as a weapon of war, I am not going to forget our past, as those who do so and stand by, are surely doomed to regret their inaction.” David Holmes

Matt recently started a new project, Everything Is True, alongside Syd Minsky and has been working on a compilation LP dedicated to the music and art of Andrew Weatherall via the @goldenlionsounds record label.

Usually a slot reserved for nothing short of legendary figures like thee one and only Andrew Weatherall (their most regular guest) or Optimo (their second most?), an open-to-end set at Spezialmaterial is certainly not for everyone. A journey into the weirder dark corners of club music? An energetic yet hypnotic psychedelic trip? We'll let you be the judges of that. It is certainly 100% C.P.I. at its essence. C.P.I. is the collaborative effort from long-time Hivern Discs operative Marc Piñol, a staple in Barcelona’s underground electronic scene and one of its most revered DJs, and Berlin-based artist, DJ and self proclaimed dilettante, Hugo Capablanca who runs his somewhat iconic label(s) Discos/ Ediciones Capablanca.

Bound by a shared love of drone luminaries, ’80s electronica experimentalists, early acid house adopters, mutant techno and forward-thinking industrial sounds, the duo wrote their first Ep El Tunel/ Proceso in a whirlwind and, released on 2015 on John Talabot’s imprint, positioned themselves among the most talked club acts of the moment, earning both press and public acclaim with an innovative blend of their influences and modern production techniques that became easily distinguishable.

In 2018 their sophomore Ep Meine Hand is released. That same year C.P.I. receive the prestigious RTF Foundation composer’s grant and work for months in what consolidates in their debut album, Alianza.
Released on 2020 to wide critical acclaim, the LP featured Anna Homler, Veronica Vasicka and Spacemen 3 members, among others, and represented a pivotal shift in the duo’s creative output, leaving aside dancefloor concerns towards a fully immersive sound experience.

On May 2021 C.P.I. performed their first-ever live show in Barcelona deconstructing Alianza into a dark ambient maelstrom. Ambient Blackout, the live recording of the show, released end of 2023 on Ediciones Capablanca.
