In Hour 2 we hand over to worriedaboutsatan, the electronic duo who worked with Adam Curtis on the music for the incredible Hypernormalisation documentary. Music featured includes tracks from Pye Corner Audio, Burial, Brian Eno & Harold Budd, Nine Inch Nails, Suicide and some of their own productions. They had this to say about their mix;
"As we helped Adam Curtis with the music in Hypernormalisation, it seemed like an idea to try and make a mix out of selected moments of the soundtrack for our Solid Steel mix. Even at 17 tracks long, there are still some bits of the soundtrack not included here - this was an attempt to meld together some of the more obscure and melodic moments, so we hope you enjoy. "

Their third proper album, ‘Blank Tape’ is released on the 25th November. They’re playing two shows in November to celebrate: one in London at the Wildcard Brewery on the 24th, and one in Manchester at the Castle on the 28th, then heading out on a UK tour in February.

Solid Steel (6th January) In Hour 1 we welcome Hugh Brunt from the London Contemporary Orchestra, who are one of the UK’s most innovative and respected ensembles – promoting the best new music and cross-arts collaborations to an increasingly wide audience and have worked with artists from Actress to Radiohead, featuring on their album A Moon Shaped Pool. This month, the LCO will embark on a UK tour of Paul Thomas Anderson’s Oscar-winning film There Will Be Blood accompanied by a live orchestral performance of Jonny Greenwood’s score. They had this to say;
"The playlist mainly focuses on muscular rhythm, metric modulations and displacement, and then the lack of these elements towards the end of the mix. Grischa Lichtenberger is making some amazing music, which deserves a wider audience. The mix also features a few of the artists LCO has collaborated with over the years: Anna Meredith; Jed Kurzel; Actress; William Basinski; and Jonny Greenwood, who we’ll be joining forces with later this month for a live screening of ‘There Will Be Blood’ at the Southbank Centre. We’ll then be taking the film to Birmingham, Brighton and Bristol on February 5th, 6th and 7th. ‘Convergence’ features in the oil rig explosion scene, deploying a total of 12 percussionists when performed live.”

Solid Steel (10th February) In Hour 1 we hand over to you the legendary MJ Cole, who has been producing for two decades and was a leading figure on the UK Garage scene, gaining chart success and working with a host of artists from Elisabeth Troy to Wiley and more recently AJ Tracey. His mix for Solid Steel shows another side to his musical tastes with a beautiful set taking in music from the likes of Jon Hopkins, Nils Frahm, Floating Points, Steve Reich, Radiohead and Bonobo , plus some of his own productions. He told us;

Lehult has moved from strength to strength since it was first brought to life back in 2014. The label run by Dj Assam and his friends has established itself a sound which sits somewhere between the playful elements of house and abstract electronics. Together the crew have released music by the likes of Johan Kaseta, Liem, Tony Rainwater and many more.

Dj Assam has remained a strong presence behind the label having helped guide the path and musical direction across a number of years. He himself has released several times on the label and remains a figurehead behind the 'sound'. Now based in Berlin he has taken some time out to record a mix which represents both himself and the label.

With support from some of the most respected names across dance music, from Pete Tong to B. Traits and Kølsch, Kris Davis' reputation may currently be ascending, but it’s always been an unusual musical journey for the Isle of Wight native.

Originally indebted to the sound of grunge and punk, the typically rebellious aesthetic of a young life lived on a somewhat isolated island, Davis’ taste headed in a typically more electronic direction over the years, from hard house to experimental and ambient music. Whether grafting away optimistic years in bands or taking hard-earned moments away from shift work, dedicating late nights and early mornings to his home studio, Davis’ sound has always persevered with a raw, emotional quality.

The past few years have seen Davis find deserved acclaim for a string of production and remixes that put those delicate songwriting and production skills centre stage, not only combining a timeless analog touch with a keen ear for the limitless possibilities of modern production, but a powerful sense of rhythm that will both define and transcend a contemporary dancefloor.

In 2016 alone, his brooding, uncompromising ‘Delta’ EP on UK label Needwant has earned much play and plaudits for its vital combination of offbeat electronica and big room techno, which DJ Mag rightly praised for its “shimmering intensity.” Meanwhile, his two track ‘Aura’ EP on Alex Niggemann’s Soulfooled imprint, a much-respected outpost for fresh talent, found Davis on even greater melodic and melancholy form, a style also flawlessly showcased on another ecstatically received release, ‘Bleak’, on Christian Loffler’s ‘Young Alaska’ label. Meanwhile, his remix of Jerome Isma-Ae’s ‘Fiction’ on Jee Productions effortlessly inspires open-minded clubbers, long after it’s original release.
