The Club Roquette crew have done a remarkable job of nimbly interweaving their way through this fun playground of global pop sounds. 

Drawing on female artists like russian queen of pop, Alla Pugacheva, Janett Kenton, Pauline Lan, and Diane Tell, the mix is invigorating, fuelled by an adolescent anything-goes spirit and an idyllic, beach day party vibe. Full on sunshine music !

Q: Thanks for your contribution to our mix series, how did you prepare for this mix, and how would you describe the eventual result?

A: Hey guys, thank you for inviting us, it’s a pleasure to be a part of your lovely series :)
After trying to prepare a lot for mixes over the time, we realized we don’t really work that way and where never satisfied with the result. So nowadays we discovered a ritual that works out really well with us. For this mix we looked into our collection for new digs that could suit the podcast vibe, grabbed a cold beer, lighted up a cosmic incense and just let the vibe flow ^^

Q: Is there a record in the mix that you associate with a special story?

A: We don’t really have a record in this mix that we assosiate with a special story, but we now can say that the whole mix will forever give us a very nostalgic feeling since we had the opportunity to play many of the records played in the mix at a festival in the Ukrainian mountains, at the self care & tea floor. It was the fist time for us to play sitting down, and it was a very special experience <3

Q: Do you have a special digging process and/or what kind of things arouse your interest in a Record?

A: I wouldn’t say that we have any kind of special digging process. We just love to go digging, so we try to go to flea markets and record shops as much as we can. Always having eyes wide open for the unexpected 

Q: One record you will never let go, and one that doesn’t want to leave your wantlist?

A: It’s not actually a record, but a cd, it was unfortunately
never sold on Discogs :( 
It’s from a Brazilian band called Karnak, the ep is “Comendo uva na chuva(faraó mix)” which translates as “eating grapes in the rain”
I’ve even tried contacting the band and it’s manager without any success, so if anyone out there has this file, it would make me extremely happy!

Q: Music bonds people together. Any local heros/crews/parties/shops/... you would like to shout out? 

A: Big s/o to Deniz Arslan from small talk who is making one of our favorite parties in Berlin! Also to our brother Gilberto from isle of wax, to Dave & Mark + the whole Fandango crew who kindly invited us to play in their amazing festival in Ukraine. And one big S/O to a not so local hero, our fabulous sister, queen from the ctw podcast, Mimi <3

Studio Pandora is a hybrid between an off- and online stage in TivoliVredenburg. In the former smoking area on the sixth floor podcasts about music are developed, DJs are given free reign and a stage is created for conversations about culture and/or Utrecht. Studio Pandora was created thanks to the experiences of TivoliVredenburg in recent times. A souvenir of the COVID era, which artist Dewy Elsinga has turned into a colourful and warm headquarter, by which we’d like to offer a kickstart to starting, experimenting and often local creatives.

Next up in the selector series we have the pleasure to host Valerio and Gio from Italy who together make up the duo Raregems. The couple are longtime record diggers and collectors and formed the project "Raregems" in 2021, aiming to unearth forgotten records from Italy and around the world. They also run a record store under the same name, a source and supplier of the finest goodies around. They wake up at dawn looking for records in flea markets, participate in record fairs around Europe both as sellers and selectors. As DJs they play at listening bars around Europe and curate a monthly program on Radio Raheem in Milan. For the current mix they have made an afternoon-compatible and cocktail-ready selection of italo disco and obscure European boogie of the 80s, and as expected, showcase a couple of rare grooves from under the radar. Selector Series 19: RAREGEMS

In a highly saturated market there is a lot to be said for record labels who trawl the earth to revitalize music which was perhaps thought lost to the depths of Discogs and glory seekers the world over. Isle Of Jura issued a statement of intent when they announced their debut release in the early months of last year. Their first release came in the form of a reissue of a highly sought after disco record from the 1980's, Escape From New York's "Fire In My Heart". An out of reach record was made attainable once again and the demand rocketed.

The label then went on to re-release a balearic masterclass in the form of Chayell's "It's Never Too Hot". 

What lies ahead for the label in 2017 is a mystery, but expect the unexpected. We spoke to the label founder Kevin Griffiths as he delivers a flavour of the label.
