Tythe - Ransom Note Ears Exclusive Summer 2013 Mix

For this edition of the L.I.E.S. artist podcast series we welcome the one and only Willie Burns. Also known as William Thomas Burnett, bossman of W.T. Records, Burnett is a veteran of the game as he's been deep behind enemy lines for a long long time. If you're looking, you can usually find Burnett deep in the basement of The Thing, the largest used record store in all of NYC or in his studio down the block working late into the night as he sips a bottle of moderately priced red wine. 

Never one to follow the trends, here we have Burnett mixing almost an hours worth of what he describes as "early street techno trance" a genre which undoubtedly has been now brought to the forefront from his days digging in the basement of the Thing. Done in one take, it's wild breakbeat driven, trance-laden trip as the author suggested, so get ready to take a pill and throw your hands in the air.

Cristiano Feleppa is one of the figureheads behind the Slow Motion Records label which is based upon Italian foundations in the heart of New York City. As a DJ, he stands tall in his own right and we were thrilled when he offered us the opportunity to feature one of his mixes on site. As one of the leading figures behind Multi Culti and Turbo Recordings, Thomas Von Party finds himself in a rather envious position. As a DJ he has played a significant and important role in the Montreal club scene, in 2014 he opened a club, Datcha, which has since gone on to find critical acclaim for its diverse music policy and its cultural benefits to the city. In 2013 he co founded the Multi Culti label alongside Dreems, it is set to release a compilation series titled 'Sun Gaze / Moon Faze' which features a great breadth of music from artists including Moscoman, Manfredas, Kris Baha and more. Von Party himself will also feature having recently begun to dabble in the world of production following an extensive and formative number of years spent DJ'ing around the world.

Stepping up, stepping in, we have the one and only Italian man living in Spain who makes music. I mean, that's probably a lie, there's probably a few, but none of them do it quite like Ransom Note family member Bawrut. 'Ciquita' has gone down rather well having been supported by the likes of Optimo, Jackmaster and beyond... We caught up with our friend for a dear chat and a mix in contribution to the Ransom Note mix series.

There is a distinctive blend evolving from the Turkish underground at present. Electronic music at a crossover with folk, funk and disco is the flavour of the day with artists such as Khidja, Mehmet Aslan, Red Axes and more finding themselves inspired by something which sits somewhere in between a range of inspirations and sounds. Ave Astra lives in Istanbul and finds himself an active member amongst this genre crushing scene. He has recorded a Turkish inspired mixtape ahead of his release on his own Roit Recordings.

Jence and Isi are the electro/indie duo Digitalism that are constantly evolving their sound. From punchy house and techno through to straight up indie and electro jams, the pair have got it covered and their constant outflow of original cuts and remixes has enabled them to develop and trademark sense of funk and groove that they are now synonymous with. Based in Paris LeonxLeon has managed to maintain a passion for music despite spending his day to day existence as a resident doctor in radiation oncology. Considering the fact that we here at Ransom Note aren't even entirely sure what that actually means, we have to guess its pretty intensive and requires concentration. However, outwith the depths of doctor life LeonxLeon is a rather interesting record collector who also has involvement in the LesYeuxOrange pubication and party series. Formative listening experiences in the early 200's have led him to where he now stands in the present day, musically speaking that is. We caught up with him as he contributes to our 'shine a light' on series.
