Mehmet Aslan has always been a dab hand and blending the old with the new. A childhood spent soaking up Turkish sounds (thanks to his parents) first ignited his love for music, and by his teenage years he'd become obsessed with collecting records, digging deep into the infinite realms of house and techno.

But when he began producing, he found a way of merging these two formative styles. Many of you will remember his early outings for labels like Hamam House and Huntley + Palmers which saw him either editing old Turkish records into club ready rhythms or injecting his own productions with influences from his roots.

These qualities have continued too permeate his releases since. As well as music for his own co-run Fleeting Wax label, he's shared EPs for Planisphere, Dischi Autunno and Huntley + Palmers' Highlife offshoot which showcase his deep and psychedelic approach to making electronic music.

Though it's a decade since his first release came out, it wasn't until recently that he shared his first ever album. Sun Is Parallel is a rich and diverse body of work that, unsurprisingly, takes in many different influences and journeys across different tempos. As always, there's a hypnotic quality that brings everything together but across its 11-track duration you'll hear mid-tempo acid jams sitting next to folkloric electronica and cinematic soundscapes unfurling into hazy grooves. 

Following the release, we asked him to put a mix together for us. Over an hour it coasts from off-kilter funk and synth-pop through to oddball rhythms, best enjoyed - as Mehmet suggests - whilst running through a Mexican canyon with the cartel hot on your tail...

Soul Asylum is an Athens based House Party, founded in 2013, by Seou, Angelheart & Kalia P. 
Staying loyal to its roots, it is an open space to diversity with respect to privacy. Talking place more often in non commercial spaces, warehouses, squats, terraces, lofts, but always based on high quality soundsystems and proper dance floors for the dancers.
Soul Asylum's music identity emphasizes to deep funky rhythms & high frequencies, providing  the message of Oneness. It has no borders to percussive music from house, disco, afro beat & post/punk to jazz funk, electro, breaks & techno. 
Music director is Seou,  a lifetime music lover and dancefloor soul. Resident  dj as a teenager at the notorious club Decadance, and later at genuine parties like Breathe Deep Athens with Athens scene pioneer Dj Akylla, and Bomba Energia Soundsystem with Simeon Nomideis/ Breakin Moves and Antonis Katelanos.
In 2015 the Soul Asylum Collective started a hedonistic project, called AΦRODISIAK moving also in the Underground Dance Music territory. A safe space for the queer community and the sinners.

Angelheart is the soul behind our artwork and @costakalogiros our sound engineer.

Conçu en 2022 dans un hangar désaffecté, EPAL est un modèle de palette normalisé, utilisé pour la manutention de personnes en tout genre mais également utile pour le calage de Sound system sur terrains scabreux. Chaque étage est solidement fixé les uns avec les autres, constituant un support parfait pour voguer à toute vitesse lors de voyages en zone de turbulence. Ce système de transport aime varier les genres ainsi que les Bpm's, donc n'essayez surtout pas d'attacher vos ceintures car de toute façon il n'y en a pas !
