Moonshots (Jan. 2023)

The wind beat heavily against her face, whipping her hair into a frenzy and urging her to squint against its sheer force. Edging closer to the precipice, and peering inquisitively over the cliff face she quickly gulped and shuffled backwards. She considered herself open-minded, up for an adventure, for trying things she'd never tried before, but she had to draw the line somewhere. And this was her line; her 'absolutely not'.

Lithuanian imprint Electric Shapes are no stranger to voyaging through strange, cosmic and alluring sonic terrain to mine for the very best unreleased gems. Their yearly Unreleased Territory compilation gathers artists who are part of their musical orbit, some who you'll see return year on year and others who are fresh faced and make their debuts for the first time. On the fourth instalment of the series, they've gathered a whopping 28 tracks from the likes of Etbonz and Gem Wallow to Dazion and Full Circle who each in turn venture into psychedelic sludge, trance-inducing waters and dark, mysterious lands.

PREMIERE: Full Circle - Absolutely Not [Electric Shapes]

Leck Meine Bahn - they are back! These two space cadets bring back home some heavy radiated elements from outer space. After a two year odyssey, they return back to mother earth with an insane Live Set (Backslash Festival 2022) and a Battery Point EP full of blasting fusion energy. Their musical capsule comes packed with new textures, mixed up with an unholy but tasty reduction of Jungle and Trance substances melting with a fusion of Bass Music and industrial space chugs.
This cosmologic sound match is leading to a new co-dependency between gravity and bass. Their enigmatic grooves are ponderous yet playful and every alien ear which listened to this intergalactic call so far, could not escape this quirky dance atmosphere. Brainwaves music commanders aka LMB are Estebahn and Yolek and this composition is their second EP which results to an extension of new boundaries in our further rave solar system. Including two massive remixes by Jan Loup and Nuevo Prohibido to beam up every sort of flesh to the the next bass portal. Space alert!

In a world where magic still roamed free, there lived a rare and magnificent bird known as the Kashmiri Red. It was said that whoever possessed one of its feathers would be granted immense power and wealth. Many sought to capture the bird, but it was elusive and could only be found deep in the enchanted forests. One day, a young girl named Lily stumbled upon the Kashmiri Red while on a journey to find her missing father. She was amazed by the bird's beauty and, to her surprise, it granted her one of its feathers as a gift. From that day on, Lily's life was filled with wonder and adventure as she discovered the true extent of the magic within the Kashmiri Red's feather.



Beigean, returns to his own Tava Discs label drawing on his inherited archive of Punjabi folk, Bollywood disco, and encyclopedic knowledge of UK club culture. This release features a quadruple attack of deeply effective, disarmingly personal rave movements.  Beigean's unique  ability to blend cultural heritage with club culture has made him a standout of late.

PREMIERE: Beigean - Kashmiri Red

It were as if he were swimming in some sort of thick soup, the air was exhaustive to breathe and engulfed the senses in a dense weighty fog. It was like moving through heavy cream, weighed down by the very thing which kept him afloat.

He wondered how obvious it was to those all around him, did they notice as he weaved slowly between passers by as if in some sort of dream like haze. Did they notice as he tiptoed between the glow of flickering streetlights as the sounds and sirens of the city all around him swallowed it all up like some sort of pointed shark.

Who knew where his mind was? For he did not...

Kulture Galerie kickstart a new venture with the first release on the new label coming on strong and featuring a heavyweight cast of producers. Abdul Raeva, Gene Tellem and Nesa Azadikhah all feature on the first record on the imprint which is run by Metropolitan Soul Museum.

However, it is the Alien D track which we showcase today, music from a producer who we reckon is one to watch at the moment...

PREMIERE: Alien D - Heavy Cream [Kulture Galerie]

Bristol-based DJ and producer Jamie Paton has been at it for almost 15 years. Starting out as one half of Cage & Aviary - a duo alongside pal George Hoyle who charted releases for DFA, Internasjonal and Dissident - Jamie went on to carve out his own path; one lined with heady, tripped out sounds to move the mind and the body.

Since going solo his music has does the rounds on some of our favourite labels, we're talking Höga Nord, Emotional Especial and the dearly departed Bahnsteig 23.

There's plenty more in the works too. In between his other job as a graphic designer, Jamie's been in the studio cooking up more potent electronics, some of which will soon see the light of day on ESP Institute and Multi Culti, along with another fresh project in collaboration with R$N extended family member, Chez De Milo.

Ahead of all that good stuff in the pipeline, we asked Jamie to supply a mix for us, a task he graciously accepted. Across two hours he takes us down a wormhole of hypnotic electronics, leftfield synth excursions and trippy rhythms. Let yourself get lost....

'Passage' is complete polyrhythmic bliss with minimalist, ethereal elements that sparkle among the overall dread-driven atmosphere. With the title track also featuring Tristan Arp (Wisdom Teeth/Banoffee Pies), the range of works perfectly encapsulate the style for which Nico has been renowned for via releases on Timedance, Mother's Finest and L.I.E.S.

Discos Sentimiento‘s new EP ‚La Fragua‘ by Mexican DJ and producer Rodman reflects a refinement of their aesthetics in continuum with their previous releases – emotional electronic music from a paradisiac land.
The releases features 4 original tracks of percussive house with broken beats, lazer beams, intricate pads and energising rhythms; polyrhythmic patterns that reference dub and house at its finest with an intricate load of emotional synths and bubbly soundscapes.
La Fragua EP emanates a woozy aura throughout its originals. On the remix bid we have 4 re-interpretations: a heavy yet emotional and ravey remix by Nico. A retro-celestial house remix by Sunday Sunday‘s resident dj, Soos. A perfectly chopped up broken beat cut by Wavawav‘s label head Ranma Entero, and a sentimentally futuristic take on Fuego Nuevo by FKA Lil Tantrum.

Brooklyn duo Infinite Monkey Theorem's output matches electronic and instrumental influences to craft music aimed at the dancefloor. There's obvious doffs of the cap to IDM, breakbeat and leftfield club sounds but also elements of shoegaze, free jazz and soundsystem music bubbling up under the surface.

For their new release, ChimpGPT, the pair share five tracks of off-kilter club cuts laced with guitars and hypnotic bass lines. And it's all for a great cause too - they're donating all proceeds from the release to UN Women, the UN organisation who do important work to protect women's rights and end violence against women across the world.
