With ten years behind the console at Glasgow's Green Door Studios and releases on Invisible Inc and Hoga Nord, Optimo Music welcomes the uber talented Sordid Sound System to the label.  Now based in Los Angeles as a freelance mixing engineer his debut 5 track digital EP on Optimo Music showcases everything from floor shaking 21st Century upgraded punk funk to home listening hypno heaven.

I believe that music comes from the collective unconscious and I struggle with the vocabulary for that so here are a few words (mostly) from the late great Raymond Chandler..

"There was a desert wind blowing that night. It was one of those hot dry Santa Ana's that come down through the mountain passes and curl your hair and make your nerves jump and your skin itch. 

The barman called last orders, so I left the dive like I was falling out of water, got into my car and drove west on Sunset and down all the way to the Coast Highway. Everywhere along the way gardens were full of withered and blackened leaves and flowers which the illusionist had burned.


But the ocean looked cool and languid and just the same as ever. I drove on almost to Malibu and then parked and went and sat on a big rock that was inside somebody's wire fence. It was about half-tide and coming in. The air smelled of kelp and glowed like neon noir. I watched the water for a while and then I pulled a string of Bohemian glass imitation pearls out of my pocket and cut the knot at one end and slipped the pearls off one by one.

When I had them all loose in my left hand I held them like that for a while and thought. There wasn't really anything to think about. I was sure.

"To the Gods below," I said aloud. 
I flipped her pearls out into the water one by one. I was as hollow and empty as the spaces between stars."

Roe Deers offers us another deep dive into the sounds of Lithuania with a new VA, Sekta, on his Good Skills label. The Vilnius-based imprint shines a light on the talents coming out of the country at the moment, calling on the talents of Shurmin Nikit, Deserted Island, Zakmina & EGOMAŠINA, Skhema and Bojarchük to contribute. It's full of raw funky grooves, slo-mo rhythms and oddball downtempo cuts that blend influences stretching from breaks, leftfield electronics and indie dance to new wave and post-punk.

Every track has its own spirit, in a kind of a 90s journey way.
The compilation is a fascinating mixture of weird cosmic and slow goa sequences to more emotional places with powerful bassdriven downtempo techno and slightly trance influenced anthems as well as distinctive tribal acid easiness with melancholic pads and epic melodies. Furthermore it involves faster loaded minimal hypnotic synth sounds and dark UK-House with a big-beat touch to it. Raw liquid floating sharp breaks melts into rave stompers which are inhabited by sensitive living microbes vibrating jungle atmospheres.

We've been talking to a lot of producers and musicians lately. This gave us understanding that in the process of expressing themselves, musicians leave a lot of experiments unused.

We were really able to feel a high degree of experience and influence of time on them in these compositions.

In our new issue, we want to introduce to you a producer from St. Petersburg - Nightdrive.

"I did a lot of experimental work on this release, focusing on UK/Garage, electronica and acid. It is inspired by changes both in life and music,
searching for ones place in this world." (Nightdrive)

Over the past 7 years, Nightdrive's music has been released on Russian and European labels and, most likely it is presented on all continents of the globe.

Apart from digital releases, you can find his solo cassettes and tracks on vinyl records.

The Imaginarium is a unique pearl gleaming within the beautiful galaxy of Lithuanian festivals. Super small in size, yet abundant in beauty of all kinds, the festival is – first and foremost – about the joy of the creation process. This is an essential aspect of human growth that is often overlooked during modern-day events.

Pretty Much tribe nurtures a culture of support, mutual creation, and skill-sharing. With every third person of the community having learned how to use the DJ decks, it was only natural to take a step forward into music production. This is how five producers were paired with six beginners to go on a unique musical journey together for this compilation of six tracks. Each of them explores the idea of connectedness since the main theme of The Imaginarium VII was about transforming aloneness into oneness.

We believe that genuine and meaningful connections are what every human being truly seeks. The question then is: what if some of the energy put into hyping up people with big names was redirected into fostering co-creation? How much is it possible for a person to become more authentic & open up due to the environment?

To answer this, Pretty Much tribe has built a utopian village, where everyone is called by their name. An idealistic culture that values sharing over commerce. A space where every individual can bask in the sun of imagination by playing an important part in the collective. Get inspired to give in to oneness by immersing yourself in the ripples of ‘Echoes of The Imaginarium VII’.
