Hiroki Yamasaki (running an absolutely brilliant Ukiuki Atama label) proves once again that he’s the master of ambiguous soundscapes always being soft and sharp / calming and unsettling / new age and post-internet / cute and spooky / ₍՞◌′ᵕ‵ू◌₎♡ and (･:ﾟдﾟ:･) at the same time.

TT welcome singer/songwriter c0sti for her label debut with a six-tracker titled ‘As above so below’. A concoction of moving lyricism and raw, grungy sonics, she takes influence from her poetry background and the works of Kurt Cobain and William Blake while examining the contrast between darkness and light and heaven and hell. The result is six emotive tracks that balance both hope and melancholy.

The High Council of axemongers abides. They bear screaming blades of fret-forged light, string-lashed instruments wielded to sear new paths skyward. They stand astride 13 gleaming new pillars of soon-to-be-mythological guitar heroism, shining beacons of musical truth illuminating a world of grey.

'Through the Fire and Flames' is a compilation of guitar music, defined in the most open sense. Enclosed are heart melters, head soothers, heavy hitters and more. It's a shrine to a sacred instrument, a pantheon of tributes from the furthest reaches of the shred spectrum. Guitar speaks to us. Guitar animates our beings. Guitar is language, communion, path — guitar is a way Through the Fire and Flames.

The 38th release of katharsis and our final release of 2023 is the prodigious compilation "Embracing Darkness, Absorbing Light" featuring a vast array of artist beloved by the label. Throughout the grandiose line-up of the 36 tracks, the listener is absorbed by various differing interpretations of the theme outlined in the title of the album. Some of the invited artist went full into introverted progressions and meditative sounds, while others focused on aggressive rhythms or anthemic melodies. But even though the styles and techniques of the songs differ from each other, the artists seem to have some commonality in their sonic palettes that binds it all together in a mutual love for music as a healing force of nature <3
