Dam Swindle's Maarten Smeets, aka Wanderist, launches his Transient Nature imprint this April with four-track EP 'Think Potential' from Dukwa.
Transient Nature is a label dedicated to the world of machine funk with a sonic aesthetic of off-kilter techno and electro, and the first release sees Dukwa deliver an EP as varied as it is powerful. Transient Nature has a busy 2021 planned with releases from Detroit's Scan7, Black Cadmium and Maarten's solo project: Wanderist. The 'Think Potential' EP is deeply rooted in gritty electronics and illustrates the producer's love for hardware and vintage techniques - three of the tracks are hardware jams recorded straight to tape.

The driving Rhodes licks and fluttering percussion on 'Who Cares' gets the EP rolling before the distorted electronica and stabbing 303s fuse harmoniously on 'High Position'. Up next, 'It's U' delivers an old-school tinged electro number with its slamming drums, robotic vocals and squeaking acid lines. The EP closer, 'Eye2eye' sees Dukwa moving deeper into the electronica territory with industrial drums and dreamy piano lines working together with mesmerising effect.

With recent output ranging from Detroit house inspired MPC-driven tracks to more conceptual electronic work, Dukwa's soulful yet dynamic releases for the likes of Numbers, Don't Be Afraid and his eponymous imprint have won a wide range of support as well as picking up a coveted 'Hottest Record in The World' from the BBC's Annie Mac.

He awoke in the dead of night, panting, sweat pouring profusely from his brow. He was shaken and unaware of his surroundings; he couldn't get a handle on what was reality. Shadows seemed to dance across the walls in strange shapes and the winds outside spoke to him in a whispered tones — were his nightmares making their way into physical existence?

Zurich-based producer Walid is one of the minds behind Les Points who, along with its sub-labels Infoline and Gentrified Undeground, have released a healthy catalogue of electro, wave and industrial-laced trips, coming from artists like Savage Grounds, Cygnus and Neu Verboten. In keeping with these musical flavours, Walid has been cooking up his own 80s-indebted sonics under the guise of Child Of The Waves, which are finding a home on Belgian imprint Basic Moves. Consisting of seven tracks, the release uses cinematic samples, rumbling bass lines, icy synths and haunting FX to craft a journey that could soundtrack an 80s thriller.

She squinted up at the sun through her fingers; it had been a lifetime since she'd felt the heat on her face. It changed everything; her mood, her conversations, even her willingness to get out of bed in the morning. Scrolling through the week's forecast, sun and blue skies filled each day; giving her assurance that her mind and body would thrive.

Bristol-based sound artist and producer Delay Grounds is "compelled to work with abstraction", an approach he channels wholeheartedly on his newest release 'Upcycling'. Working alongside artist Liz Naden, the pair have created an audio-visual concept using rubbish found in skips; Delay Ground producing organic electronic sounds, while Naden crafted unique sculptures. A forward-thinking project that 'upcycles' the regular artistic mediums, encouraging a narrative and an understanding between the pair, in Delay Grounds words it "enabled us both to explore our own creative potential and create a work with layers of depth which we were not initially aware of before.”

He watched  suspiciously from his window; this new area of town was unfamiliar to him, and far too quiet. He'd become accustomed to this secretive and nomadic life now; moving from place to place, changing his name, face and where he'd been before. Nobody asked questions, but he still felt that pang in his stomach when he touched down in a new place. After all there was unfinished business at hand...

Scan 7 have been a pioneering force in Detroit techno since the early 90s, working with renowned imprints like Underground Resistance, Tresor and DETROIT UNDERGROUND. Having also taken their raw musings to Dam Swindle's Heist imprint last year, Scan 7 strengthen that relationship further with one half of the Amsterdam outfit Maarten Smeets AKA Wanderist, with a new four-tracker for his Transient Nature label. 'Out Of Nowhere' is a timeless slice of electro, flaunting machine funk rhythms, murky grooves, acid stabs and frantic 303s.

Slowly he counted, the numbers stacked up with a weighty presence. The 1,000 was in the distance but he wasn't quite there yet. Walking through the city streets he knew he had to hustle to make it out of this place, the grit and the grime of the landscape was getting him down, this wasn't supposed to be home. He was only ten away from calling it a day then boom, his luck was in. A handshake, a conversation, a smile. The 990 was transformed into something more suitable...

Circulation is back. A celebrated powerhouse of electronic music has resurfaced and with him comes brand new music which he describes as follows:

"After writing over forty-five 12 inch releases and two albums under the Circulation name from 1997 to 2007, and after stopping for ten years, I recently started writing again under the Circulation moniker. It feels great to be back producing and recirculating with a project that has meant so much to me over the years.“

Launching the Maybe mix series is Ngunnawal (Canberra) based zara. I met zara a couple of years ago and it has been very exciting watching her grow into an exceptionally talented artist. 

zara has a great ear for layering interesting rhythms and always plays with excellent command of energy and flow: this 2 hour mix showcases that perfectly. Highlighting the breadth of her taste, zara's Maybe mix is a very well put together odyssey through deep and detailed selections.

zara has recently been honing her production too, her incredible understanding and passion for music shining through in all she does. We are all looking forward to hearing more!
