From open till close the space was bustling with faces both familiar and fresh. Over the years it had welcomed all manner of vibrant characters; some made their way here from across the world while others were local devotees, who had begun to call this place home. Community would continue to remain at its core: a hub for those with open minds and open ears. 

To celebrate ten years in the game, Milan-based record shop Serendeepity have rounded up artists and friends from around the world for a mammoth compilation, released on vinyl in four consecutive parts. Totalling 18 original tracks, the release features a star-studded cast, all of whom have supported the store over the last decade — the likes of San Proper, Dj Marcelle, JD Twitch, Ellen Allien, Egyptian Lover, Matias Aguayo, Tamburi Neri and many more.

You could hardly make it through the door, let alone to the bar... From wall to wall, friendly faces both old and new talked hurriedly, making up for the lost time they'd spent sitting in their pants in front of the telly, longing for that first schooner. The music buzzed and excited voices rose and fell till the dreaded final orders arrived; you'd never leave here disappointed but you might not remember leaving at all...

Our favourite London boozer have taken their first steps into the label world with 'Gun Aid', a 14-track release featuring music from card-carrying members of the pub — it just so happens that the majority of their nearest and dearest double up as cracking producers and musicians too. Across the LP, you'll find contributions from Róisín Murphy, Ivan Smagghe and C.A.R, Nathan Gregory Wilkins and Quinn Whalley, and many more friendly faces who've regularly graced the pub over the years.

Ahead of the release of the full compilation, The Gun tease a four-track EP titled 'Time At The Vortex', which features tracks from Daniel Avery, Scott Fraser, Cherrystones and GLOK, with a portion of the proceeds going to Hackney Quest, a charity working with local families.

The pashmina is a shawl type clothing whose best use is to fashion and regulate temperature of your body. It also shares the name of a Fribourg-based duo; consisting of Vincent Gross and Nicola Marthaler. Rather than being seen as a traditional duo, they are a self-described as a support group. Supplying each other with unearthed tunes and meeting in the middle to showcase a sound derived from years of diligent music curatorship. 

Music affiliated veterans of the Fribourgean scene, their contribution are best observed within their various activities. For one, Nicola co-founded TRNSTN Radio, a broadcasting station whose identity is enthralled by being a place for creation, gatherings, experimentation and reflection. Vincent as the other, enriches the scene as a member of the committee of legendary statused Fri-Son, as well as having co-founded Ablette Records with his partner.
The music behind this record is something of an ode to their eclectic music taste and blithe personality. Influences of proto-trance, early goa and nods to early 2000s breakbeats as familiar references that are wrapped with a contemporary twist. A departure in sound from their previous works, the focus of this release is reflective of their heterogeneous sets; psychedelic soundscapes, downtempo oddities, soaring bass lines and care-free melodies. The sonic pallet weaved together by these two music seamsters has generated the wildest harmonic reverberations. Los Pashminas, a combination of materials to make a soft, yet sturdy piece of clothing. A suitable metaphor to underline their idea of a cathartic understanding of when to push and when to let go.  An amalgamation of their domesticated exotism of obscure music, style and comfort, pseudonymised by these two characters.

Wit Bad is the result of a beautiful collaborative project that started with illustrator Joost Stokhof. He was asked as an artist in residence for Amsterdam’s Hortus Botanicus, a place where Joost locked himself up for a week alongside the finest biodiversity in the city. Joost asked Eefje de visser to join him for a day and Eefje asked Nuno dos Santos to form a powerful trinity of which Wit Blad is the unmistakable evidence.

The original version was released in April of 2018 and we finally have a vinyl (only) version to go along with it. On the A side we find an 808 version, which is an extended version by Nuno of the ‘Wit Blad’ original. Zooming in on the drums and bass line while leaving even more space for Eefjes haunting voice. Eefje is one of Holland’s best kept music secrets, her voice is soothing and her presence like a siren song seducing you in. Immersing the music with field recordings, you can hear the birds and surroundings the piece was recorded and even some whispering voices that only add to the atmosphere.
Flipping to the other side we find our dear friend Mattheis remixing Wit Blad in a strong hypnotic vibe. Containing Mattheis’ trademark synth swirls, it’s as soothing as it is driving with spine tingling harmonics slowly creeping in and out.

This all comes packaged in a silkscreen printed cover containing the illustrations that Joost Stokhof made during their time together. The vinyl also includes a small poster including extra images by Joost and the lyrics of Wit Blad. Adding up to a beautiful feast for both the eyes and ears.
