Nørus & Dj Whipr Snipr team up for the electro-tinged ‘Sporthsgoth’ this October on Nerang
Recordings.
Queensland based DJ/producer and label head Dj Whipr Snipr has been running Nerang Recordings since
2016, putting out music from the likes of Interplanetary Criminal, Subjoi, DJ Swagger, DJ Bowlcut, J.
Albert, Cassettes For Kids, and many more since its inception. Teaming up with Brazilian DJ/producer and
Gestalt Records alumni Nørus here, the duo air their first collaborative works on ‘Sportsgoth’, a hard-hitting
EP taking inspiration from Breaks, Electro, Techno and beyond.
Leading the A-side, ‘Something Better’ opens with deep, hypnotic pads and sharp drums alongside
modulating low end, while ‘Gravel Or Grovel’ sees the duo maintain the emotive electro atmosphere, with
flickering synth licks, dreamy pads, and rubbery bass laid across rough, staggering drums. On the flip, ‘1000
Forward 5000 Back’ brings a series of glitched-out FX and warped electronics before ‘Sportsgoth’, which
features Scotland’s Chordata, closes the releases with chopped up vocal samples, high octane leads, and
rattling drum machines.

It seemed as if they were going in circles. Walking for hours they had seen little sign that they might be nearing the finish line and in fact the hills seemed taller and higher now than they had once at the start. It were as if they were taking 1000 steps forward and 5000 steps back. Soon the daylight would leave them far behind, they would be caught up in the murky blackness of the night wandering onwards in the hope that they might find solace in the foothills of the mountains above. 

Nørus & DJ Whipr Snipr have collaborated on a new EP for Nerang Records, an Australian imprint which continues to unearth and showcase the harder, weirder fringes of electronic music. This time it's a no holds barred electro affair.

Maai Records fires up the next release by inviting seven friends and fellow artists to provide a track each, building a family feel in the early days of the label. Heading up the release we have DJ Bowlcut, Rawdio, Rubinskee, Rassan, Vince Void, and Nørus & DJ Whipr Snirp.

Opener “Vibe” from DJ Bowlcut is a slink house track cruising on sweet melodies, and perfectly weighted drum work. Next on the agenda is “Energy” an aptly named track from, Rawdio, spreading a feel good vibe with this uplifting encounter. Rubinskee steps up to the plate with “Tei'' constructed with dusty old school drums, and emotional synth work drawing you in. Rassan delivers a house heater in the form of his track “Luv”, driven dance floor energy, continuously evolving into squelchy acid goodness. 

Vince Void’s “Garros” is a slick rolling number from the get go, a rippling organ sets the scene for a playful lift off, accelerating out of the racing blocks. Closing the genre melding VA is Nørus & DJ Whipr Snirp. Their “Crystal Thief” track is over six minutes of pure class, pitched down electro and breaks at its finest. Melt in your mind acid spirals around clean drumwork, before a nostalgic retro synth brings the funk flavour.

"Toki Doki means: "Sometimes. Sometimes I have stress, sometimes I’m in fear." So, the song’s about how you can beat that by ‘genki’ and by throwing a pillow around," explains singer Aili Maruyama. Words failed her; she was numb, unable to compute the conversation that was playing out before her. It had taken her by surprise. Had she had the wool pulled over her eyes for all this time? Had this been staring her in the face and she'd just chosen to ignore it? She felt blindsided, she hadn't seen it coming, there'd been no clues or giveaways. Right now, it felt impossible to imagine her life without him, the future was obscured...

For their next release Plaza Recordings welcome Gold Coast hailing producer Dj Whipr Snipr to the label. Previously the Mancunian label, run by duo Cortese, have made a home for releases from close pals including Absenol. and Sattama, as well as the pair's own productions. Championing UK G, breaks and early 90s electronic sounds, the label now call on the Nerang Recordings boss for a two-tracker of twinkling, laidback electro cuts full of lush pads, vocal samples and squelchy acid lines.

Affirming their status as dedicated tastemakers, Crazy P call on some of their favourite producers and deliver 12 immaculate remixes of their beloved 2019 album, ‘Age Of The Ego’ A cosmic, vibe heavy, and eclectic journey through low-slung, groovy Balearic, big room disco, deep house, lo-fi, and beyond with artists the trio have admired, and friends encountered along the way.

‘Age Of The Ego’ is a very dear album to Crazy P. “We poured a lot of blood, sweat and tears into this baby so we were keen to get the remix package right. Everyone was chosen by us as fans in the first instance, and together we’ve achieved exactly what we set out to build. A diverse sounding package that doesn’t compromise on quality”

Gerd Janson’s 80’s italo-esque remix of ‘We Will F**k You Up’ kicks things off full throttle as a debut digital single on June 8th. Other focal tracks come from Medlar ft Dele Sosimi who provide a hip-swinging rendition of 'The Witness’. Hot Toddy (Crazy P’s Chris Todd) ups the ante for the dancefloor on ‘Love is With You’ whilst retaining the lushness and the sentiment of the original, and other Crazy P co-founder James Baron aka Ron Basejam delivers a disco stomping four to the floor rendition of ‘Is This All That It Seems’. Another stand out contribution comes from the late Soulphiction who so sadly passed between submitting his remix and its release. His low slung take on 'Barefooted' is a roller-boogie funk jam, heavy on the bass and congas, guaranteed to make you shimmy.

Crazy P - “The very sadly missed Michel Baumann. We’ve been huge fans of his work over the years. He always had a great ear for sampling, bringing obscure elements from disco, soul, funk and film to his productions that have always oozed emotion and atmosphere. It’s an honor to have a truly authentic remix from him.”

When speaking about the rest of the package, it’s clear Crazy P have chosen artists they have a deep appreciation for.

“DJ Nature - a king of the underground, injects a whole new boldness into ‘SOS’ with a kick drum that launches you into space. Ilija Rudman has an inimitable style, the simplicity of his remix is key to its beauty. Riding high with his releases on Phantasy, we knew James Welsh would give us some toughness, and he certainly delivered with aplomb on ‘This Fire’, alongside Mancunian/Salfordian collective See Thru Hands’ whose version infuses a fresh, deep, durgy, rock-disco sound. Somethin’ Sanctified’s analog drenched house productions we’ve loved over the years, and the duo have stripped this mix right back, the vocoder bit on the end is well worth the wait!”

The appetite for Crazy P’s supremely fun and exquisite live and DJ performances is still high, continuing to leave their mark on the landscape of British dance music with a mammoth tour schedule in 2022 to lay down ‘Age Of The Ego’ original material and remixes all summer, ​​with some new music thrown in for good measure.

With another blazing number lined up in this burgeoning chain of sound (with tracks from Ray Kandinski, Anthony Fade, DOS...) @nerangrecordings have just announced their latest, 'NRNGVA004' - a six-track mini comp featuring NYC's finest J Albert, Cassettes For Kids, M44K, label staples @djwhiprsnipr & IOK, DJ Nerdiboy and @djpsychiatre. It's all due out late July according to the label... if the pressing plants aren't too busy minting some useless David Bowie reissue for 2019's RSD by then.
