With VOI 029 we are presenting the UK-based Mercy System, also known as Adam Crawford. Growing up in a small town on the outskirts of Manchester, he brings a dark, swung, early dubstep influence to his beats. His productions, which have already found a first platform on the American record label Miracle Drugs, occupy a middle ground between various UK Bass genres, through which he creates a paranoid shuffle of styles.

With »Recognise« Crawford now lands his debut EP on Voitax, a personal project that represents his patiently accumulated skill set in sound design, as part of an excellently produced dystopian UK Bass four-tracker. This powerful package combines high-definition sample work with outstanding arrangements. With the right eye for voice shaping, crowned with beautifully placed drone delays, dense bass, and broken drum patterns, this EP also explores the realms of Dubstep nuanced with UK Garage, Grime, and Dancehall, while keeping its unique character. We are thrilled to hear more to come from this newbie among the UK Bass producers.

PREMIERE : Mercy System - Recognise

On his follow-up to ROOS10, French DJ and producer Adam BFD lets imagination thrive with five mesmerizing breaksy house cuts, best heard under a star-lit sky. Duality flows seamlessly throughout the whole record, Adam harnessing the power to connect everyday experiences with a higher state of consciousness.

The EP kicks off with ‘Digital Tales’ which layers wistful secrets over mood-altering pads; it’s hypnotic undertone grounding and continuous. ‘Cirrus Dreamz' ascends even further into the clouds, it’s steady pace expertly infused with cosmic melody and shuffling rhythms.

In a world driven by hyper-connectivity, Adam’s productions are a welcome reminder to stop and explore, none more so than in the immersive world of B side opener ‘1st sight’. Dynamic percussion provides the movement, while meditative sonics produce the feeling of being swept up in a magic carpet and taken along for the ride. Adam’s depth of field widens in title track ‘Rose’, a quasi-epic composition combining all the best elements of house and breakbeat.

The record comes to a contemplative halt with ‘Siniestro’ - an ambient bubble-bath with field recordings poignantly placed across developing pads yearning for connection; showcasing another side to a producer who knows how to tug at the heartstrings.

Wiltshire-born, London-based Tom Jarmey (aka Ocean Stirs and one half of Mother Of Pearls) delivers the second chapter in his latest project, Wing Theory. Following releases on Holding Hands, X-Kalay and Dansu Discs, whilst garnering attention from the likes of Four Tet, Bicep, Jossy Mitsu, Anz and Or:la, Jarmey’s latest EP explores brand new territory in an eclectic mix of both dance-centric and home-listening tracks.

‘Paraka’ kicks off the EP, diving straight into dark and eerie, 170 bpm, broken beat territory; merging complex percussion with a growling, all-encompassing bassline. ‘Bad Fruit’ follows suit, remaining stedfast in the higher tempos with fast-paced electro drums and reversed electric guitar samples. Switching direction, ‘Prophet’ pays homage to the staple Dave Smith Rev2, adopting a more ethereal yet equally aggressive atmosphere. Rounding off the EP, ‘Meditations’ sets itself apart, merging dubstep, trip hop and jungle influences to create a wispy, trance-inducing closer.

The car raced towards the finish line at a hurtling pace. In pursuit there was a squadron of motors parading proudly in the wake of the smoke trail which blazed up high amidst the sky. Burning rubber lingered in the air and the crowd of spectators watched on in awe at the sheer speed and scale of the display. Some had disputed the validity of the race, some had even claimed that the sport was for suckers and cheats. What did they know about speed anyway? This was it. 

Dormir are an Australian group from Melbourne, they are set to release a new EP on Pelvis Records & Burning Rose, new wave, dream like electronics with a sense of nostalgia. The EP is rounded off by two remixes by both Cop Envy and Leo James. It is the first which we bring to you today.
