A bowl of the juiciest looking fruit sat in the middle of the table, its contents inviting her to take a bite. It was a case of look but don't touch, though it challenged every inch of her not to reach out and grab a piece. A succulent bunch of grapes sat beside a vibrant pile of strawberries and an abundance of ripe pears, plums and bananas, how could she possibly resist? One bite wouldn't hurt anyone...

Marco Passarani's discography stretches back over nearly three decades including long players on well-respected imprints like Peacefrog, Running Back and Offen Music. For his next release, which marks his sixth LP, he heads over to Aus to make his debut with The Wildlife Of The Quieter Ones. Once again flexing his dexterity at moving between genres and styles, the 16 tracks showcase his timeless sound: a cocktail of glimmering electro, techno, house and IDM.

Since 2014, Public Release has been enlisting the raw, trademark groove of Richard Sen on a variety of now- renowned remixes. Label boss Eug has cited him in numerous interviews as being one of his all-time favourite producers, so it was inevitable that a solo EP would eventually materialize. That time has finally come, and in the Spring of 2022, the UK legend drops his solo EP “My Definition of Funk” on Public Release.

These three raw, gritty, hard-hitting, peak-time tracks are quintessential Richard Sen, combining the energy and influences of post-punk, breaks, and house in one sturdy sonic package.

The ocean was quiet, there was little which disturbed the surface of the vast expanse of water but for the occasional raindrop which fell from the grey, overcast sky up above.

The mid afternoon sun had long since vanished, hidden behind a cloak of clouds as the last stragglers left the beach for the day to return to the haven of their apartments before the storm rolled in.

Soon there would be waves, grand ones and wild ones at that. They would batter the shore and the town would soon be awash with sand and grit, the only reminder that the beach had ever even been there at all.

That was life in paradise...

Forgotten Frequencies are remixed by infamous Glasgow party starters We Should Hang out More on the newly launched label In The Event of Capture.

Their remix is perhaps more understated and sombre than we might stereotypically expect but that is what makes it all the more special. This one is a treat...

Whiskey Pickle has been a fan of the mysterious synthy slippery dance floor compositions of Sol Glissant since we first heard them via kindred spirit label Denied Music. We were delighted to find out that Sol Glissant is actually a pseudonym of techno wizard Jason Short who came up via the San Francisco underground electronic music scene. Jason has appeared previously on Whiskey Pickle contributing a remix on WP034 Blue Soul - "Litmus Test Part 2". Here we offer up some of Jason's more recent leftfield cuts paired with a dynamite remix from Indoor Man of Hallucienda. Enjoy!

The cheeky Philippe Brown—member of the duo La Punta Bianca (released on the Berlin label Detriti), who also operates as a crooner under the pseudonym of ‘René Couteau,’ and a dance-music producer under ‘Raymond D. Barre’—unlocks this once lost attaché case, music that is irresistible! From the top of his North-east Parisian control tower, he ironically fantasized about a life in business class (disastrous carbon footprint to boot), going from one retro-futuristic air terminal to the next. He soothes his jet-lag with his faithful Juno 106, and his Vermona drum machine. He breaks out the base for the most epic moments of this espionage-laced thriller: Think subtle glances on long-distance flights, check-ins and check-outs last name first, airline seats covered in moleskin, microfilm concealed in hidden compartments, one-night stands through veils of cigarette smoke.

Classic Me has been producing off the radar for over a decade, and it’s with pride that LAN gives the German artist a spotlight for the first time.


‘Cycles’ is an eleven track exploration into the ways classical, house music and its adjacent genres play off one another. Unsurprisingly for an artist with experience playing the violin, the album leads both in tracklist and concept with cinematic strings, which then soar into groovy basslines and slouchy kicks.


Classic Me’s confidence in production is levelled by spontaneity in the recording process (sometimes casually recording from a tablet on the go). Mastered in Paris by engineer Marine Benabou, the result is an interesting balance between play and perfection: though many of the tracks hint at J Dilla or Moodyman with their suggestions of tape loops and sampling, the orchestration uses hyperreal acoustics to bring echoes of Daft Punk, millennial Chemical Brothers and French touch back into the mix. 


It’s this tying together of classical influences with dance music’s more classic elements - hip-hop melodies, deep house vocals, funk basslines and the brightness of disco - which make up the unique sound of Classic Me. Each track turns a different face of the prism toward the listener, weaving an album that is cinematic and wistful without losing sight of its groove.
