It was just curiosity that brought her to the psychic — at least, that's what she'd been telling herself repeatedly all the way here. She'd never considered herself much of a superstitious type and, until recently, she'd have balked at the idea of reading a horoscope, so tarot readings were completely new and uncharted territory. She'd have laughed at herself a year ago, but back then she couldn't have fathomed the events that would soon play out.

Tasked with delivering the next release on Mugwump's Subfield imprint are cult Sheffield act HIEM, the duo made up of Venini band member Nick Eastwood and The All Seeing I's David Boswell aka Bozzwell. A new addition to their string of releases on Crosstown Rebels, Eskimo and Nang, 'Esoteric' brings a dose of ritualistic chants and dark psychedelic rhythms, backed up by remixes from Canadian disco-tech outfit Ami Moderne and Smala boss Manfredas.

Дeva is a fully DIY solo project by the 20 year old Budapest based musician, Dorina Takács. Music has always played a major role in her life (choirs, bands, and musicals) but she felt it’s time to take matters in her own hands and do everything on her own. She writes and produces her own tracks, and also sings and designs her artworks. Her features are atmospheric smooth sounds, pulsating bass lines and polyphonic mantras inspired by magical Hungarian folk songs. Her solo project aims to knock down barriers between different genres of music and make our spirits soar.

Deva's new single ‘Witchcraft’ is about finding love. The song was inspired by a Hungarian folk song that says: “My garden is full of sage and love”. According to the song love is not only a fusion of two paths but also a pact with nature and a connection with our inner self. The monotony of the groove, the smooth rhythms of congas and the traditional Hungarian melodies give us a warm feeling that takes us to a sacred land. András Ladocsi directed a beautiful video for the song with seven dancers in a derelict building from the socialist era.

Thomas aka @thomas-gaarthuis is a Dutch musician that is living in the picturesque Haarlem. He has been producing for many years and made a beautiful remix for us in the very first month of our existence. He is also an avid supporter of LF Amsterdam and we are thankful that he agreed to add his own production to our releases from this year. The title Rompompom came up when Thommie was exploring vocal elements to add to the track.

As for the remix; last year Thommie remixed 'Red Dust' for @theoddness, so this moment was perfect to do it the other way around. Happy to have The Oddness remix Rompompom.

Arnau Obiols and KAYYAK met just last year through their girlfriends who happen to be sisters. As one can imagine it did not take long until the two brothers-in-law sat in the studio together for the first time accompanied by Swiss bass player Jules Martinet and with vocals by South African Singer B’utiza as well as Mozambican vocalist Tcheco who is part of the legendary band Ghorwane (Real World Records). The energy during the production of these songs came to life and resulted in the two originals on this record. Folkloric tradition with modern programming, acoustic drums, percussion with acid, echo feedback and psychedelic sounds all infused by funky basslines.

In addition they invited Kalabrese and MLiR to do a remix. Both of them being artists close at heart for Arnau and Kay
