Brazil’s Volkoder releases the ‘Prospective’ EP on Lee Foss’ Repopulate Mars, featuring 3 solid house

tracks.

Having appeared on the likes of Material, Snatch!, Kittball and Suara, Marcos Benedetti’s talent as a

producer is indisputable - even been tapped to remix the likes of Kerri Chandler and Guy Gerber. It’s

therefore unsurprising that Volkoder’s productions have frequented the sets of Jamie Jones, Catz n’ Dogz

and Tube & Berger, not to mention Lee Foss who’s now inducting him into his Repopulate Mars roster.

‘Prospective’ immediately builds the energy levels with a popping bass, intoxicating vocals and consuming

drum arrangements before ‘For Me’ opens up to echoing soundscapes and emotive vox edits, making it a

tune impossible to stand still to. Finally, ‘Fools’ introduces fragmented percussion above a high-octane,

pulsating bass line as clanging claps and a looped voice keep listeners locked in.

French-born Berlin-based duo @nummer dish out a proper feel-good tropical melter blazing with suave afro-funk hooks and dubbed-out guitar riffs amidst other rousing vibraphone melodies, enticing cowbells and cosmic arpeggios on rewind. Like setting up an improvised party in some idyllic, sun-bathed rainforest clearing, pleasantly hedged in by the fluid force of magic cascades, chlorophyllian green and the euphonic charm of multicoloured bird songs. Warm and sensuous tribal house groover in full effect.

Nummer's Tribute [Fragil Musique]

Known more for their dubby 'kosmische' and psychedelic post-disko, Glasgow label Invisible Inc seem to be wandering closer to the realms of the nightclub dancefloor these days. Not that anyone's complaining. With recent outings by Strange Culture and Sordid Sound System taking the lead, this one by Budapest's Bal5000 is quite possibly their most dancefloor friendly release yet.

Brainwaltzera debuts on FILM. The anonymous producer, whose work has has already received online approval from legendary british IDM auteur aphex twin, offers up an extended EP for the berlin based imprint. In 2015 a soundcloud profile under the name user18081971 - now identified as belonging to richard d. james, commented on curious Brainwaltzera upload quilat spring 1 [outtake]. The move prompted speculation as to who exactly is behind the music. Exquisitely produced and executed in such fine fashion so as to decry pure imitation - there’s plenty to theorise here. Regardless of their true creator - which will undoubtedly remain a secret for the time being, the compositions on FILM006 are of similarly high calibre. Varied in approach and marrying both electronic & acoustic elements with ease, the six tracks that comprise the record range from yearning ambient segues and dreamy down tempo grooves to otherworldly krautrock and more direct, dance floor fare - but remain bound tight as a cohesive and functional body of work by a glorious, arcane musicality. whether weaving soft electronic tones in and amongst snappy breaks or detuned drum-machine strikes, the artist’s ear for acoustic harmony is perhaps the pervading theme across the six tracks that make up the aecoba EP, marking it out as an excellent addition to the FILM label’s growing catalogue. For the latest Sprechen outing we head to the land of the Northern Lights as Norway’s very own Kohib delivers double barrel dosage of late night/early morning heaters that are seriously bang on the money!

Itchy Kitchy People is made firmly for post 2am workouts with a heavy helping of ticks, clicks, & wonky weirdness that make up this utter mutant of a house track that comes across like the illegitimate child of Riton & Erol Alkan’s Trash night…it all sounds so wrong but believe us this track is fecking fierce.

Yakkatakk eases up on the wonk factor but ramps up the “lose your shit” vibes to factor 15! We love a good build up here at Sprechen and this sucka delivers in spades right from the off, then when you think its going to kick in an almighty bass drops in to carry on the tease. From there on its socks off tackle all the way.

1. Kohib - Itchy Kitchy People

4 tracks of straight up, no nonsense bass driven stompers are the favour of Sprechen 011 which comes from the Italian master blaster and some time studio partner of Daniele Baldelli, Dionigi!

Funkabilia goes straight in for the kill form the off…solid funk infused house grooves with enough sass & sultry shenanigans to create a fair share of wobbling on the floor.

Moment Latino is a personal fave on the release, a hybrid of Moroder style synths & Cosmic Club style vibes with an almighty Studio 54 style break with latino-esque style guitar which if sounds like weird combination, that’s cos it is but boy does it work!

3rd in line is Verona Dub goes late night/early morning with some slap happy percussion vibes alongside, heads down techno style bleeps, blips & echo drenched stabs.

Closing the party off is Symptomatic which takes the party even deeper underground…military style drums alongside skippy percussion and a moody bass pattern will ensure some real heads down type moments on the dance floor & in the booth.

We’re hopping on the laser grid and heading to Santa Cruz courtesy of Norway’s very own Karl Fraunhofer for the 12th Sprechen release!

The title track is the thing of a synth lovers wet dream…arps, classic drum machines, soaring pads and some killer lead lines are all here on this neon painted soundscape that sounds like the pairing of a lost Canon Video release and a level from Outrun!

Tone keeps the synth spirit going with a slightly slowed down affair that still throbs like an Italian studio in the mid 80’s. Jazz sounding melody stabs with some gritty chord work make this one perfect for driving your white lamborghini down to the shops to buy another pair of espidrilles.

Remix action is from an absolute legend of the true Ibizan party scene by way of Leo Mas who gets the house vibes painted all over Santa Cruz whilst still retaining an air of balearic-ness. Manchester’s very own Neil Diablo gets to work on Tone and gives it his trademark balearic disco makeover with dashing if Italo influence that is certain to do some damage over the Summer festival dance floors!

The wheels kept spinning as the car travelled down the long, winding road. In the distance there was little light remaining but he continued to drive through what was left, the motion was underway and soon he would arrive at his final destination. The towering hills rose up to the sky alongside the twisted concrete path and soon the glow of the headlights would be all that could guide the way. For now the hum of the engine was enough for company, for now. 

Ilija Rudman is set to appear on a new EP for Is It Balearic? He is remixed by none other than Italo house legend Don Carlos who delivers a charming melodic inspired remix.

The beach was busy with human life upon the first date in July. It was as if half of the country had flocked from far and wide to touch down upon the shore and watch the waves slowly roll in against the golden sand. The heat poured down upon the crowds from the radiant sun which shone brightly up high above. The sky was a crystal clear blue and the sound of sweet music travelled softly upon the warm summer breeze. In cafes some watched others swim whilst afraid to dunk their own feet, they drank from straws a golden liquid made for a day beneath the light. 

We love a good edit here at Ransom Note, it can be a fine art, a thing of delicate beauty. The Rollover DJ's have reworked "Che Cavolo Di Vita Fai" in a showcase of balearic beauty.

The night had drawn to a close and there was little noise left in the small basement. The reverb echoed loudly from the machine in the corner but it was not a sweet sound or tone but bitter and dull. The band had left the room some time ago but the crowd remained loyally attached to the stage - hoping and praying for the return of their heroes. Little did they in fact know that this was the end of times, the last dance and a farewell outing. Soon they would leave but not just yet, not now. 

The Golden Filter continue to delight and inspire, a duo with a sense of purpose and a formidable swagger. Optimo did very well indeed to snap them up and their music demonstrates supreme quality.

The towering crane looked down over the skyscrapers in motion. The construction looked almost alien like from such great height, a rugged scattering of metal framework, steel beams and concrete. Vertigo had started to kick in as he sat perched atop the city, his tiny cabin did little to offer comfort or security from the pouring rain which battered against the glass window. The raindrops sat laden upon the frame, he watched them drip one by one down the pane. Only a few more hours to go....

Opal Sunn is the dynamic duo made up of Al Kassian and Hiroaki OBA, the pair have been producing music together for several years. Simon Pitt and Al Kassian launched Planet Sundae back in 2016.Listen to "Vertigo" from their new EP.
