Discos Capablanca return with a record from the mysterious Detroit-based Sharif Laffrey (we know little more than his place of birth, and that he likes to ride his bike and warm weather) who brings the heat on the Turn It Up 12". Recorded in Detroit in the late 80s and released on a cassette tape compilation in 1988, the original "Turn It Up" is a long forgotten gem from the period that Electro was beginning to morph and mutate into nascent forms of Techno. Excavated by Hugo Capablanca's label, the track is presented in an edited version that stays true to the original and complemented by an Acid Dub Not Dub version that implements plenty of deranged 303 action.

Isolation was the only constant in her life these days. The idea of being surrounded by people or lost in a crowd were distant memories that seemed to fade even more with each new day that passed. She found herself living more and more inside her own head; her thoughts providing equal remedy and damage that she tried her best to balance. Her body yearned for human contact, and her mind for emotional stimulation, but when would that day come along?

In Atlas' debut album came about in a period of detachment. The producer was residing in Athens before the pandemic began in 2020, and was making music as one half of post-punk group V.V.I.A., alongside her room mate and music partner Venus Volcanism. As 2019 drew to a close, the pair had finished their debut album and were ready to go on tour but then lockdown struck and circumstances meant they were separated, with In Atlas forced to stay in Copenhagen and her partner in Athens.

These were the conditions that motivated In Atlas to begin work on the album, which explored her feelings of longing, uncertainty and the beauty of platonic love. Weaving together elements of art-pop, minimal synth and punk sensibilities with her eerie vocal touches, she fashions an ode to her musical partner and dives into her fractured state of being without her friend by her side.

After a splendid, sought after 12” on Pyramids Of Mars, an already expensive edits split Ep with Red Axes on Edit Service and his highly original and acclaimed self released debut album “Don’t touch my sister” Rouge Mecanique delivers a stone cold classic Ep for Discos Capablanca. The psychedelic steady muscle of ‘All Will Be Changed’ aims to destroy visionary dance floors. ‘Sans Scrupules’ is the most surprising acid banger you will likely hear this year. ‘Ampedusa / Xaver’ defies description and its mutant sound could evoque ecstatic early minimal house references, kraut and concrete music. ‘Can I say’ is simply put the most elegant, languid way to say goodbye to an Ep that exudes sheer brilliance and character. Timeless applies here.

Lost Souls

Bragolin is a Post-punk / Dark Wave band from Utrecht, The Netherlands. The band is lead by singer/guitarist Edwin van der Velde of Zwarte Poëzie. The music contains a mixture of bariton and shoegaze guitars, organ, synths and drummachines. Their first album and music videos will be released on Young & Cold Records in spring/summer 2018.
