Electroacoustic music is one of the youngest phenomena in contemporary music culture. For this reason, the study of its history and aesthetic principles; research of instruments and tools; analysis of the electroacoustic composers’ works in Ukraine and over the world just begins. In 1997 with the support of International Renaissance Foundationat the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy was created first Electroacoustic music studio in Ukraine and the Music Technologies Department. The first professors of The Department were Igor Piaskovski, Igor Stetsyuk, Alla Zagaykevych, Sviatoslav Luniov, who created their own courses: "Computer analysis of music texts", "Electronic sound synthesis", "Composition, synthesis and audio processing with a computer ","History of electroacoustic music", "Music technologies".
In the circle of contemporary composers initiated regular international projects with concerts and workshops "Electroacoustics" (since 2003) and "EM - VISIA (since 2005) (director Alla Zagaykevych), where the music composed by students and graduates of Academy is regularly performed.
Electronic music studio collaborates with ethnomusicologists and provides mutual researches using acoustic research methods. In 2011 professors and composers of the Department created Ukrainian Association of Electroacoustic Music (Chairman – Alla Zagaykevych), which became a member of the International Confederation of Electroacoustic Music CIME / ICEM.

the International Electroacoustic Workshops (Kyiv, 2017), dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Music Technologies Department and Electroacoustic Studio at the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy – first attempt at a thorough study of Ukrainian electroacoustic music. The CDs contains the works of Ukrainian composers from 1964 until 2017.

Premiere: John Parsley - High Life (Local Suicide & Time To Sleep Remix) [Playground Records]

John Parsley (@johnparsley) makes his first appearance on Playground Records (@playgroundrecords) to mark an Ep that kicks the board and leaves a musical riot of unusual dimensions. 3 originals and 2 remixes from Bird Of Paradise and Local Suicide & Time To Sleep giving a roam without letup.

It opens with ‘Coin Crash’, a dancefloor killer with all the letters. An infectious and tremendously addictive bass takes us out plowing in 5th gear, acid modulations pass through the sides leaving a technicolor trail. A break that continues long because an electro techno arpeggio enters on the fly and takes us by the teeth towards the deep trip section of the track. Ruthless.

‘High Life’ puts on the brakes and starts off with a suspenseful and rarefied atmosphere. Bells, curious modulations, immersive aquatic environment. The bass beats constant and right immersing us in a dense and thick musical structure. Distortion contrasts with cloudy pads of ethereal sounds that suspend us. A journey with very personal characteristics shows us that John Parsley is a different musician.

‘New Guardian’ is an intense and hung downtempo break. Following the conceptual line, the atmosphere of intrigue surrounded by acidic but melodic and percussive sounds is mixed with metallic modulations. The resonances open and the harmonics distort, opening the pores of the skin. A dreamlike environment takes hold and shoots hallucinatory images of an expanded and exploded reality. The ears are excited, electronic music of connection towards other vibrational dimensions.

Bird of Paradise is the first guest to make a remix and gives us a different version of ‘Coin Crash’, although equally club bomb, he offers us a completely different soundscape. Supported by the bass of the original they take us on a journey of crossed chord keyboards but totally harmonic in their dissonances. A ping pong of a constant acid modulation that opens and closes towards the sides makes us move our heads without respite. Tasty sweet and sour.

For an unbeatable closure the Ep has as remixers of “High Life” the Local Suicide duo accompanied by Time To Sleep. Adding dark and gloomy vowels, a huge flying electro comes out, cruising through the galaxy. Polished and elegant black, sober but glamorous, it moves slowly and takes us to a state of awe. A song that deserves to be played in clubs because it is made to thunder great soundsystems, hypnotizing the masses.

The bell sounded through the corridors, quickly followed by the flinging open of doors one after another. Excited laughter rang loudly around the school, followed by the charge of small feet as they scrambled for the door. For most the end of term meant freedom, fun and new experiences. It meant time spent with family and friends, time spent visiting new places and spaces. But that wasn't the case for some; quite the opposite. School was their only sanctuary.

Hot on the heels of Ed Dix's EP, Playground Records welcome a newcomer to the family, Roam Records and Wonder Stories alumni John Parsley. For his label debut - which also features two remixes from Bird Of Paradise and Local Suicide & Time To Sleep - he brings several different flavours to the table. Levelled up dancefloor rhythms peppered with acid lines and electro arpeggios open proceedings, followed by tension inducing beats that marry distorted sounds with celestial sounds, and intense, downtempo breaks layered with eerie atmospheres and metallic modulations.
