In the darkness they prepared themselves for the battle ahead. What little resources they had left they stockpiled in a safe place, guarded by those who were considered too weak to fight on the field. As soon as the sun reared its head on the horizon, the enemy would soon be on the move and time would be against them. Rumours had reached them that the opposition's army far outweighed their own but they had something to fight for that the others didn't; this battle was for everyone, it was for humanity. 

In June Brighton-based Scotsman Kutkh Jackdaw contributed a dark, industrial rhythmic cut to Medellin-based label Sonidos Subterraneos' compilation Estado De Golpe, a release aimed at raising awareness of and rejecting all forms of abuse, with profits being donated to social work causes. As a follow up to the track, Kutkh invited fellow Brighton producer Movement to put his own spin on it, and that he did, twisting the original into a heady 2-step remix that calls to mind artists and labels of the pre-dubstep era like El-B, Horsepower Productions and Digital Mystikz.

I met Dan at Sustain-Release in 2018 and have been nipping at his heels ever since. His work with Brooklyn-based rave outfit Sweat Equity provided a blueprint for us early on and he was one of the first remixes we commissioned for Sorry Records. His music has moved us throughout the years too from countless solo releases to his work alongside Austin Peru of Vision Fortune on their collaborative experimental ambient leaning project Dekalb Works. Dan's a constant joy and thankfully consistent presence in both our lives and on the NYC dancefloor. He's also dirty at bowling. We're so happy to present this latest release from Planet D complete with insane remixes from our own Drummy (Kindergarten Records) and west coast breakbeat legend Bassbin Twins.

With his willingness to push his sonic boundaries, Tim Bernhardt, a.k.a. Satin 
Jackets, showcases a different variety of sounds and vibes on the sixth single “Count
on you.” The smooth and steady rhythm of "Count On You" pulses like a heartbeat, 
with layered arpeggios building up to the perfect tempo. The bassline provides a 
warm and inviting soundscape, with atmospheric leads that never get too 
overwhelming. With "Count On You," Tim manages to create a feeling of warmth 
that's often missing in contemporary dance music. It’s a modern exploration into new
possibilities while still reconnecting with what once was, and without getting 
sentimental. 
“Elmar” is a new solo project and moniker of Mansionair vocalist Jack Froggatt. 
Drawing on years of songwriting experience and recent productions Elmar immerses
you in a surf coast shimmer of indie rock, smooth electronic and folk, to harness a 
batch of songs drenched in sunlight and reflection. Created over the years between 
Mansionair’s records (two albums to date), as well as compelling features for 
Odesza, Dom Dolla, & Rezident. Having amassed a slew of accolades to his name 
already including a Grammy nomination and US Gold Record for ‘Line Of Sight', 
alongside Australian Gold Records 'Easier', and 'Astronaut (Something About Your 
Love' and ‘Line Of Sight.' Jack continues to shine through his songwriting, vocals 
and production. Working alongside his good friend Ross James (Upsidedownhead), 
the two have created a sonic world of coastal drives and late night mescals, (not at 
the same time).

Count On You

​Time to step into the dark and dangerous. Bristol legend Pinch is back on home ground as he prepares to serve up his next release on his own label, Tectonic. Aimed straight for the dance floor, Screamer, sees Pinch team up with recent collaborator and grime legend Riko Dan who lays down his impeccable trademark vocals over the industrial garage-esque beats. The beat, which sees pinch head down a more dark and gritty 4x4 route, is the perfect complement to the sonic dark side of Riko’s flow which goes straight in, no holes barred. Having already been aired by Benji B on Radio 1 as well as support from the likes of Mary-Anne Hobbes, Leofah and Mumdance, its time to delve into the i-D premiere of the forthcoming Screamer. It really is a screamer.

Premiere: Pinch - Screamer Ft Riko Dan

This is essentially a remix of the 1977 UK punk classic 'Emergency' by 999. When I first started production, I wanted to combine my punk influences with my electronic influences in an interesting way. The original track by 999 was one of the first tracks I heard that inspired me with my ideas. I heard the solo guitars in the intro and thought I could do something with those. Compared to my previous two tracks; 'Innocents' and 'Psycho Killer' where the electronic influences were a lot stronger, 'Emergency' has more of a live-band feel. I was discovering coldwave and minimal wave, and those influences were beginning to creep into my music. I was also still listening to a lot of bass music/dubstep at this time, and maybe you can hear those influences in the track too, particularly in the 140bpm tempo and half-step beat.

Sort It Out Sharon (feat. Wiley)

This was my first track that wasn't at 140bpm. I slowed things down to 120bpm, although the live drums make it feel faster. At the time, I was listening to a lot of Powell, Shit & Shine, Not Waving, and Broken English Club, and I was inspired by the idea of 'post-punk techno'. About 90% of this track is made from samples from old punk records. It's also the first track that I used hardware on. I had bought a Roland R8 mkII drum machine, and so beefed up the percussion using this.
