Following on from 2019’s Head Remixes package which including reinterpretations from The Micronauts lauded Head Control Body Control LP, The French producer extraordinaire unleashed four brand new mixes on the Body Remixes collection.  

A French electronic music pioneer with more than 20 years’ experience, Monier formed the band Discotique with Patrick Vidal who produced the first EP on France’s first ever techno label, Rave Age Records. A founding member of eDEN – the legendary collective, first French fanzine dedicated to house and techno and inspiration for Mia Hansen-Løve’s recent feature film of the same name – Monier, started The Micronauts in 1995, initially alongside fellow producer George Issakidis, before it became a solo project in 2000. 

2018 saw the release of Head Control Body Control, The Micronauts’ third album, and the first for more than a decade since 2007’s Damaging Consent. Head Remixes followed in 2019 – a four-track remix EP with contributions from leading electronic artists Popof, VONDA7, S3A and Nomenklatür – and now the release cycle is completed with the release of Body Remixes: a four track EP with new versions of album tracks from The Populists, Moisees, Jeneral Kai and Ark. 

Kicking off the package is a remix from The Populists, the solo project of French producer Yan Wagner, who transforms Polymorphous Pervert – the video for which picked up nominations at both the Clubbing TV and Berlin Music Video Awards – into a seething, acid-laden cut; searingly visceral and yet with a melodic lightness of touch that takes it to another level entirely. Also taking on Polymorphous Pervert, Moisees – who heads up the Mexico City-based Duro imprint – goes even darker with his interpretation, delivering a unique disco-acid-techno hybrid that makes a deep and lasting impression. 

Kuala Lumpur based artist Jeneral Kai is next up with his remix of Dancizer, a wonderfully unpredictable, progressive-influenced epic with broken beats, huge, emotional washes and heavily reverbed swells combining for a deeply involving record. Finally, French minimal house veteran Ark drops a fast-paced, glitchy, idiosyncratic new version of Share, completing the package in exemplary style.

Creative endeavours are most often not a thing to be rushed. You let thoughts have their freedom and sometimes it comes naturally, sometimes it doesn’t. The conveyor belt approach applies to physical products, but not the processes of a creator. But what happens if you were to force a deadline to something you hadn’t even started? Would you perform to the utmost of your ability? Would the end product be greater or lesser than that given its own time frame?
Joseph Thomas Price also known as Third Son has written, mixed, mastered and released his debut album in 20 Days, and there forming the title of the work. Based from his home studio, the first note was recorded on the 1st May and the creative process was documented throughout. From the first recorded beats to the live studio tutorial videos including a video call with Pioneer DJ's Rob Anderson in which he discussed how he used the Toriaz Squid as a central ideas machine within the writing process, the end product is a remarkable achievement and released on his Polymath concept label.
The track that we present to you today, his collaboration with the already iconic figure of the worldwide electronic scene, a French-Canadian artist living in London - Chloe Raunet aka C.A.R.

PREMIERE #986 | Third Son Ft. C.A.R. - Surge [Polymath] 2020

You never get used to the feeling of cold steel plunging into your brain stem. A moment of muscular convulsion and a metallic aftertaste are a breeze compared to the eye-strained methods my grandfather used to enter virtual realms. Bypassing the archaic detour of beaming data through the senses, hardlining straight to the brain is the favoured method of those seeking a ‘true to life’ experience. As the program boots, vision withdraws and the world collapses. Like the moment in a dream where you’re unsure of your surroundings, but your mind fills in the gaps, the spectacular nature of this voluntary world becomes normality. 

Based out of the Netherlands, the Coloray helmed label ‘Intercept’ is on release duty for Lewski’s latest, Military Simulations. Across its three tracks, Lewski unleashes his unique approach to sound and rhythm, sprinkling the release with otherworldly instrumentation, whilst constantly the building the suspense. Our pick is the title track, an industrial techno stomper, with the best elements of electro and acid thrown in for good measure. The track’s bleeps and warbles atop frantic percussion build excitement for the cyberpunk raves of our near dystopia.

Following massive releases on Running Back, AEON, Future Disco and Permanent Vacation, once again Alan Dixon captures the pent up energy and frustration of the weirdest year we've ever had in our lifetimes and how it's finally being released as the dancefloors slowly open up again. Loaded with an incredible loose-limbed thigh-slapping Diskomix from Prins Thomas and Bugge Wesseltoft and a delicious ambient twist from Alan himself, this is the sound of a revived and reenergised scene that's ready to fight the challenge of getting back to how things were, but even better. We will never take our lifestyles for granted again. We will cherish these moments so much more. We are in love with this record.
