Now that we are firmly underway into our second year, it's time to celebrate Second State's family vibes as we bring you the sophomore installment of our annual HUB release. This year we have Clint Stewart taking the helm and over the course of four collaborative tracks with The Reason Y, Michael Klein, Stephan Hinz and of course Pan-Pot, the American displays his prowess for creating powerful, emotive dance floor cuts.

Kicking things off in grand fashion, the EP starts with the alliance of Clint and the boss men Pan-Pot on a massive tune entitled "Zau!" featuring the insanely talented Portuguese percussionist, Peter Xoben, and the inimitable artist Luio Onassis who graced us with his signature artwork for this release. After a chance encounter in Berlin a year ago, Clint met up with Peter and Luio for an impromptu recording session that would later go on to become Zau! after Pan-Pot heard an early working session. With rapid fire blasts of Peter Xoben's drums laid over a captivating groove, the track grows with intensity as deep sonic blasts of low end rumbles and sharp rhythmic hooks engross the aural space.

Soon, wildly unforgettable bursts of neural jabs begin to play a game of call and response with the existing elements as lush, rising pads install a relentless tension of ecstatic proportions to absolutely demolish any dance floor scenario. Following up "Zau!" is Clint and Stephan Hinz who after last years hugely successful HUB collaboration "Shimmer" are back with another incredibly heady tune, aptly titled "Fall To Earth".

Spanning spaces somewhere between deep, euphoric and driving the guys deliver an exquisite "nail biter", testing patience only to deliver a huge pay off of lush strings, melodic bass lines and stirring melodies carried by a heaving groove perfect for those intimate moments.

Embarking into the second half of the release we see Clint team up with Michael Klein to drop what could be the heaviest and most psychedelic tune of the release. 'Artifacts' is a white knuckle ride from beginning to end. Fast paced, swirling arps, unrelenting percussive builds, malevolent jabs and truly hefty roars of bass set the stage for what can only be described as a 'Draconian' opus of epic breadth transcending time and space. Wrapping up the collaborative release is Clint's pairing with Berlin duo The Reason Y for an uplifting ride on 'Aubade Flares'.

Persistent and unyielding grooves lay the foundation as abrasive yet opulent tones partner with rich low end which continually grow before rising to a fever pitch. As the vitality gets to be almost unbearable, a wash of dreamy, intoxicated strings bring it all together into a grandiose symphony of gorgeous harmonics. As heard over the course of these four collaborative HUB tracks, the comradery of the Second State crew is organically becoming more and more solidified and that was always the plan, yet it has past all our original expectations, and we think you will agree.

Interdimensional journeys lay ahead as Volruptus lands on трип with a 5-track tour of his alternate reality.

Androids navigate their way through deep space, determined to find more. One minute they’re floating, the next, racing through a continuum at twice the speed of light. Sharp broken beats create a framework for immersive pads, glitchy inflections and acid bass to wander.

Volruptus holds a state of the art lens to classic electro, exploring its form with the meticulous detail of a true audiophile. This one’s for the psychonauts.

For its seventh release, Obscura - the thriving label of Italian trio Agents Of Time - returns to the compilation format to welcome exciting new talents and core label acts. 

‘East Coast’, the Agents Of Time track which opens the release, is at once tough and atmospheric, with delicate pads suspended above the rugged, syncopated rhythm. London Modular Alliance complete the A-side with an organic jam of bleeps, bass and crisp percussion. Next, Australian Jensen Interceptor contributes a fresh cut of rapid-fire electro which leads neatly into the sci-fi tones of ‘Welcome To My World’ by newcomer Golden Virgo. 

Following a full EP on Obscura earlier this year, Hiver is back with the elastic bassline and dreamy arpeggios of ‘Stasys’. Orbe, a remixer on Hiver’s EP, impresses with ‘Never Comes’, a similarly restrained and endlessly detailed journey through the depths. 

The final side is split between Laguna and Kris Wadsworth. The former tunnels further into the hypnotic side of Obscura’s sound whilst Wadsworth’s crunchy, Detroit techno ends the release on a high. With ‘From Sound To Silence 2’, Agents Of Time have compiled eight, stand-out tracks to explore the full range of their dancefloor sensibilities.

Metropolitan Soul Museum returns with a new EP on @step-rec ( @pets_recordings sub-label). The London-based duo (which had recently released another record on Rawax), has put together 4 tracks for this vinyl, showcasing two sides of their music making. A1 and B1 are both Electro and Jazzy jams, driven by dreamy piano melodies; while A2 and B2 are 4/4 dance floor driven cuts with focus on the drum programming. The EP will be out on the 24th of May (ps. look out for the 2 digital only exclusive tracks too).

A weathered road sign signalled the way to the nearest village, it’s writing barely legible after years of neglect. The path, bordered by thick unkept grass, winded down to the foot of the hill. This was no destination, nobody had visited this place in decades. Outsiders weren’t welcome here. Clusters of small thatched houses dotted the landscape surrounding a towering church. Day-in-day-out the people of the village would visit this building to worship and pray, but they were guided by their own beliefs and values, by their own god. This was their sacred place, yet their idea of what is sacred was far from the conventions of society.

Timothy Clerkin exercises his remix skills once again, this time for Barcelona via Buenos Aires collective and label Playground Records. He steps up to rework Brasilian producer Marzian, who returns to the label for his second release following the introspective wave of his 2017 debut Bien Turro.
