On ACEN026, we welcome Endless Mow back to All Centre. Following his debut Possession Chamber EP and appearance on our 2nd Anniversary Compilation, Endless Mow delivers two club-ready tracks on spellcasters.

Title track spellcasters opens with two infectious vocal samples before making way for a heavy percussive workout, alternating between rolling breaks and infectious UK funky rhythms. Dark stabs alternate with deep, penetrating subs whilst an entrancing plucked string melody weaves in and out of the mix.

Romance me kicks off with a captivating vocoded drum pattern, underpinning a robust, broken rhythm as piercing, siren-like synths enter the mix. Half-way through, captivating ethereal strings enter the mix, bringing the track to a euphoric peak, before making way for another driving percussive section and re-entering at the track’s close.

The subway lights gave off a clinical glare as they flickered frantically above head. Every night, waiting for her train, she wondered whether anybody had been told to fix them, probably not... She scanned along the platform, analysing the characters waiting patiently for the train to come. In her head she'd imagine their lives, dream up their names and envisage the places they were making their journey to. What was their story? She'd never truly know.

NYC-based label and blog Palms Out have revealed the first in a series of compilations that will benefit different charities who are working to counteract the effects of broken windows policing. The overarching aim is to raise awareness of the ways in which policing and prosecuting low level offences serves to traumatise and disproportionately affect marginalised groups rather than prevent crime.

Titled End Broken Windows, the first compilation features music from the likes of Martyn Bootyspoon, Garneau, Carli, SUMORAI and many more, who were all given the brief to write music inspired by the subway/metro, a place where broken windows policing is widespread.

All profits from the first volume will be donated to the SBB National Sex Worker Bail Fund, as sex workers are often intersectionally and inordinately affected by these practices.

Finishing off Henzo’s banner 2022 that has seen releases on YCO and Peder Mannerfelt Produktion, the Manchester based producer dials back the tempo into 5 cuts of gloom-ridden dancefloor damagers for his Nervous Horizon debut. Running the gamut of Dancehall, Techno and Drum & Bass, the EP’s refined palette is laser-guided in its intention of favouring groove and atmosphere over melody and hooks.

The opening track, 'Survivorship Bias', rolls out a lurching and smudged drum break over an equally sketchy Donk and vocal sample in a Bolton-meets-Belgium chug affair. 'It’s Ours and Hours Alone' and 'Writhing' lean more towards a typical Dancehall rhythm, smattered with the reticulated percussion that Nervous Horizon have been known for, saturated and growling. 'His Troublesome Knees' sees a variation on the theme of the opener, with the addition of harrowing, gnarly strings that posit drama in the riff that runs almost throughout; An inescapable tension that juxtaposes the highly danceable groove. Rounding out Stretford Blues, 'A Pocket You Didn’t Expect' feels like 3 tempos at once: 82, 164 and 328BPM. The battering, unrelenting kicks laced over taut breaks and hats hark to Jungle Techno and Tech Step in their composition, but the drawn out and bleak orchestral breakdown, coupled with a barking, irate bassline, suggest that Henzo shows no allegiance to nostalgia and is moving intently into the future.

From high energy rhythms to slower, more spacious grooves, the release explores delay, reverb, and repetition with a raw yet refined approach. This is not a nostalgic homage, Dub Inversion is a transformation. A split self reuniting through bass, space, and pulse.
