Ever since the day they met they were inseparable. From the moment they woke up to the moment they went to bed, they did everything together. It almost seemed too good to be true, as though it was all a facade and behind closed doors: a totally different story. But this image was truly their reality: nothing could ever come between them.

Earlier this year LA-based collective, performance space and archival project Discostan expanded their arsenal, launching their new label arm with a reissue of Pakistani-British singer Nermin Niazi’s 1984 synth-pop masterpiece 'Disco Se Aagay'. As a follow up to the release the label have enlisted the talents of Jeddah-born, Dublin-based producer Moving Still to reimagine two of the original tracks for the club. With releases for Orange Tree and Dar Disku under his belt, he's no stranger to the edit which he showcases on these two Hi-NRG disco remixes, which are backed up on the flip by two experimental reprises and an English version of Nermin's work.

HRDF: Who are you ?
J: I am Jackit - real name Eugene DJ from Kaliningrad city from western part of Russia.

HRDF: How did you discover this track ?
J: In fact my good friend Kostya Isaev aka Volta Cab / Rambal Cochet showed me this track in 2017. Original track was released in 1992 via the Italian label Interactive Test, autor Steve Mantovani DJ and producer from Italy.

HRDF: Why do you choose to edit it ?
J: Still then I wanted to do with this track something. I was very hooked by Indian chant mixed with oldschool rave groove but I forgot about it for whole four years and only remembered this year when I was looking for ideas for my edits.

HRDF: What are your upcoming plans ?
J: Of course keep making music. Upcoming plans to release a full-length EP and I am currently creating a remix for a French label due out in September 2022.

Fresh off the back of their excellent ‘Meridian’ EP from Bristol’s Zobol, Melodize head to the cultural petri-dish of Berlin for a label debut from Micropacer.

The aptly titled lead track ‘Zeitgeist’ opens with its pulsing synths and analogue drums. Fragile melodies and pressurised hi-hats tailor the tempo as well to deliver iconic dancefloor emotions. Super-talent Vhyce allows the original melody to dance behind his pitched-down, growling bass synth to create the perfect alter ego.

On the flip, Seelenruhe creates a Summer-esque midtempo crowd-pleaser with its thick bass, oscillating synths and whip-cracking 808 stabs, all layered with guitar licks and distorted feedback. With added luft and cyber-vocals, Italian duo Marvin and Guy add their trademark glitter-drenched touch to create a glorious retro-future rework.

Fred Ventura and Rafał Lachmirowicz, aka Also Playable Mono, have teamed up, All We Need being the pairing’s audio vision of italo disco. Steady kicks and cascading cowbells pave the way for an infectious synthline before a vocoder-enveloped Ventura smoulders with a burning intensity. Bold chords and pulsating rhythms are at the robotic heart of “System Breakdown On Wikileaks”. Bombastic and brilliant, this electrified disco dreadnaught swings with the power of a wrecking ball; a power that only amplifies the track’s impacting message of our very civilisation’s future. Scaling notes spiral ever higher in the addictive groove of “In The Night”, A.P.Mono’s computerised words adopting the mantle of his machines. Circling samples introduce “The News”. Rhythms are clean and tight, snapping at the tails of soaring synthwork with Ventura’s smoky social commentary, coupled with the silken and sonorous Chelsea Muller, offering something better for us all.

Here is the b1, a cool edit of Jean-Michel Gascuel "Dominus" originally released in 1984. This French composer who collaborated with Pierre Schaeffer was also a great lyricist working for the likes of Vivian Vee or Suzy Andrews, and a fashion designer. With its Latin touch, this track is a little UFO standing out of the rest of his French productions, so let us be blessed by Dominus Domine Dominarum.
