The follow up from the impressive sellout VA is surprisingly the first full EP to come curated by the Dr and who better to kick things off than the great Dane @mainphase001 - FWD Thinking Vol.2 is a no holds barred nod to the UK’s rich history in underground bass music. OG Label don Main Phase provides two signature Ragga 2-Stepers on the A with ‘Note To Society’ and ‘Run Dancehall’ - Heavy low end providing the bass layer and skips for the top shelf vocal samples. 
On the flip we have two versions of title track FWD Thinking. Subtle grime keys burst through your tweeter on the 2001 version, whilst the 2006 rendition has Dubstep Warz written all over it - a seamless transition from that early noughties dark garage into straight up 140 of years later. Full circle flex.

MP rounds things off with Live & Direct, an up front Jungle juggernaut that screams skanking! Let’s hope that by the time this ones ready, we’re back in the dance doing just that…

Blow & Zavor have collaborated on a new EP due for release on the 10th of November. They bring with them a remix by Claudio Fabrianesi who is best known for work on Mule Musiq alongside Donato Dozzy.

Four Four Premiere: Hank LW - Learned Response (Born Sleepy)

Versalife’s second release for 20/20 Vision sees Dutch producer Boris Bunnik aka Conforce return with another slab of signature electro.

The track selected by @DVSNME to premiere is the second track of this 4-track EP. ‘Aegis’ delivers a double dose of mechanical funk, played over atmospheric strings and auditory acid delights. This entire EP is quite the work by the veteran producer. The vinyl release will become available on October 14th.

If I am being honest, there isn't a whole lot that I know about INDEX:Records. Apparently, they are a record label that was started in 2017 and consists of artists from Manchester, Berlin, and Auckland. Self-described as "confusing af," INDEX:Records are clearly a group that doesn't take themselves too seriously. However, the level of in which they give absolutely no fucks should be commended. I honestly haven't laughed this hard researching a label in quite some time. For god's sake, their about page reads:

"The future is Cyborg Orgy. We, with machines, are penetrating and generating. We metabolise our instruments, giving them life and personifying them for our own devices. It is the conscious touch which has the ability to awaken the complexities of these mechanisms and arouse their own personalities."

How can you not fall in love with these guys? In all seriousness though, label heads Con + Mos actually release some highly original and experimental music. Their seventh record, which comes out today, features new music from Berlin producer Ike Zwanikken, simply known as "Ike." Featuring two original compositions and a remix by GOD69, the lads seem to be putting all that robot fucking they're doing to good use. A great example of this is Ike's "Kiwami Formed," which you can listen to above. Although elements of the song are quite futuristic and mechanical in nature, the tune still manages to exude a level of sexiness that's undeniably human. Take into account it's break-dancing assortment of electro wobbles and energetic drum patterns, it's only a matter of time before "Kiwami Formed" will have you up, dancing, and all hot and bothered.

Opening the A-side is a track by Cosmox who delivers tough staccato Electrfunk on ‘Electrostress’ before 543ff brings stripped-back beats and layers of melody on the track ‘Easy’.

Keeping the Onderwereld collaborative ethos alive, 543ff joins forces with Star-kid and Gamma Intel on the B-side, for ‘Three City Firm’. Their original version is dark and bristling, while 543ff’s remix takes the track on a galactic ride.

@this-is-our-time welcomes @aspetuck from the US to their label family with 'The Time Capsule Experiment' EP. His three original tracks are ranging from house, breakbeat to electro but all of them come with a nice twist. Jazzy chord & odd vocoder sounds accompany a cosmic soundscape on the EP starter 'Lift Point' and with tweaked chirps & eastern strings on a bare breakbeat, 'The Time Capsule Experiment' is definitely the most leftfield one on this EP. Closing off the release is the sinister electro 'Solace' of which we can only imagine a demon-summoning tribal ritual was the inspiration. 
The EP comes with two remixes. Jeigo's rethinking of the title track is a meetup of two worlds: an aerial stomper for closing your set in the early morning hours. The dubby trance remix of 'Lift Point' is from the label boss Route 8 - his synth pads have never been so trippy like this!

With the official release of our SNC002 record back in march 2020, a weird time for our society and especially for our subculture started – the Covid-19 pandemic and the resulting shutdown for all night clubs and festivals caused a big break and calming of our scene. We used the time off and kept ourselves busy preparing this new release, presenting you an incredibly talented newcomer for our 003 release.

'Through Golan Zocher and Eric Lune, Proton Music is delighted to showcase "North to South. Remixes come from outstanding Polish and Belarusian artists.

With impressive artistic pedigrees in their own rights, Golan Zocher and Eric Lune have individually found success with a host of impressive production credits to their name. Owner of the Bloom Records imprint, Zocher has seen his own music feature on the likes of JOOF, Perspectives Digital, and fellow countryman Juan Pablo Torrez's Clubsonica Records. Similarly, Eric Lune has been a staple on such celebrated imprints as 3rd Avenue, Juicebox Music and Guy Mantzur's Plattenbank. Remixing GMJ's "Mystic Sea" for Proton in June 2020, Golan Zocher now joins forces with Eric Lune as the Colombian/Australian axis deliver a glorious, bouncing progressive house gem as a head-shaking bass groove and shaker-fuelled percussive top-line combine with harmonically detuned analogue chords and delicate keys that shimmer in rich delays. Building to a crescendo at the the mid-point breakdown, the track rises and falls with ease to dramatic effect. A beautifully crafted "Ambient Edit" adds an extra dimension as rhythmic elements are stripped away to reveal a glorious array of motifs and melodies that cascade and coruscate in counterpoint fashion to produce a wonderfully evocative edit.

Michael A is another Proton Music regular with a long and distinguished career with the label. Starting on Particles with his "Behind the Moon" and "Sapphire" EPs in 2014 and 2017, a clutch of originals saw "Bright Hope", "My Style", "Aura Tears", "Geometria" and "Twinkling Stars", light up the label between 2017 and 2020 with a distinctive and evolving melodic sound. Remixes for the likes of James Monro, Rauschhaus and James Warren are now accompanied by a stunning interpretation of "North to South". A smooth and silky use of the central melody from the Zocher and Lune original has created a Sasha-esque remix that is reminiscent of the legend's "Airdrawndagger" sound with its cascading and overlapping delays. A typically impressive rhythm section provides percussive power aplenty as counterpoint melodies and new distorted motifs add depth and range to a highly impressive offering.

From "North to South" Golan Zocher and Eric Lune have been joined by Kobana and Michael A on a true voyage of discovery.'

'A regular contributor to the Proton Music catalogue, Michael A continues to find himself at the forefront of underground dance music, now returning with the 4-track "Fantasy" EP.

As prolific as he is talented, Michael A has been a central figure in the progressive house scene with occasional forays into melodic techno and electronica. Since a 2012 debut for Stereofaza, the Belarusian has seen almost 900 production credits against his name for a formidable array of high-profile imprints that include Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat, Darin Epsilon's Perspectives Digital and Cid Inc.'s Replug. Moreover, Michael's own Genesis Music imprint has been a vital source of music for both himself and a leading band of new and established artists. Support for a growing portfolio of releases has come from industry's leading DJs and tastemakers that include Guy J, Nick Warren, Max Graham and Cattaneo himself.

The subtle energy of "Flyaway" ripples enticingly forward atop cleverly programmed hi-hat and shaker cadence. A feature of his dynamic live set for some time, The Forest’s deep, organic and analogue sonics invoke vibes of misty sunrises and dusty sunset dancefloors in the Australian bush.

Taking the original’s lush melodics and stepping it up a notch with a grinding lead, Doppel’s rework is raw, powerful and another example of why he’s the hottest artist in Australia in 2020.

Day by day, the memories of club nights gone by seem to be fading from our collective consciousness. The idea of being in a densely packed room with a pounding sound system feels like something we’ve been long removed from, both physically and culturally. Every once in a while though, something comes along that instantly transports you back to those simpler times. With an instantly recognisable sample and a relentless four-to-the-floor break, Liquid Crystals by Placid One on Gestalt Records does exactly that – combining a sense of dancefloor nostalgia with sublime production and an entrancing acid line that will stay with you well after the needle leaves the record.

Placid One is no stranger to atmospheric breaks. Previous releases have seen him lend his hand to everything from gorgeous downtempo jams to jungle-inspired rave; genres that on paper seem worlds apart but that he is able to draw parallels between through his signature broken rhythms and sombre lead melodies. This release sits firmly between those two styles at a cool 134bpm – designed with the club in mind, whilst still holding enough emotional weight to warrant repeated listens in a home setting.

The track clocks in at just over 6 minutes and boasts a couple of tasteful breakdowns during this time. The uplifting synth line weaves in and out of the mix but never truly overstays its welcome, allowing the pounding percussion and morphing 303 line to dictate the energy and momentum of the track. What really stands out here is the vocal; in direct contrast to the moody atmosphere of the instrumental, there is a repeated interpolation of the infamous Loleatta Holloway “I’m gon’ diss you” sample - made famous by the likes of Bicep and Armando amongst others in previous years. The juxtaposition of this iconic old-school vocal against Placid One’s ultra-modern sound design and signature drum programming gives a result that oozes with dancefloor nostalgia.

This track makes up one-fifth of the forthcoming HPU013 EP, with each track demonstrating Placid One’s penchant for creating club-driven rhythms whilst showcasing his diversity as a producer. In the context of the release, the traditional 4/4 structure of Liquid Crystals will likely make this the most obvious weapon of choice for many DJs. The track sits alongside a breaky UKG-inspired stomper (HPU013), an electro-infused acid workout (Reinelda) and the fantastically-titled CocoFishTrap – an enthralling IDM track demonstrating the artist’s ability to combine complex drum programming with mesmerising ambient soundscapes. The more adventurous DJs out there may look to reach for Seaweeds, with its off-kilter breakbeat patterns drawing similarities to the likes of leftfield techno favourites Overmono. For the most part though, the gripping energy of Liquid Crystals’ four-to-the-floor groove, combined with its understated yet enchanting aura and tried-and-tested vocal makes this track stand out as the most viable peak-time candidate for when the sweaty basement clubs once again open their doors.

The water was clear and rippled softly in the light of the morning sun - the nets had been cast out into the ocean many hours before and now it was just a case of waiting patiently to see what might return. The bounty had been plentiful and joyous this spring but that didn't necessarily mean that it would continue prosperously through the year. The special coco fish traps had been set with intricate precision and skill but that was only a small part of the tropical master plan underway... 

Placid One is a producer of whom we are very familiar, having worked with him on the Ransom Note record label previously. Now he brings his elegant, intricate electronics to Gestalt Records as he prepares for a busy string of upcoming releases.
