Renowned for their sublime, lyrical take on dance music, DC / Berlin based duo Benoit & Sergio return to their spiritual home of Visionquest with some freshly crafted groove ridden thrills. More set in the smoke and heat of the club than their vocalised bittersweet visions, the ‘Your Darkness’ EP showcases the duo at their dancefloor focused playful best whilst incorporating infectious vocal samples, searing melodies and pulsing rhythms. Opener ‘Splash’ is at once murky and tropical as the bassline grinds underneath light footed percussion whilst title track ‘Your Darkness’ is a deep and moody groover with signature rich synth work. Closing track ‘Beat Macho’ is a wayward beast with a darker edge and satisfyingly complex chugging framework that makes for a heady trip into the depths of the night.

 BACKGROUND
o+ Leaving an indelible mark on a selection of pioneering labels since 2009 - Spectral Sound, DFA, Hot Creations, Culprit and of course Visionquest have all fallen prey to Benoit & Sergio’s unique brand of sensuous electronics. The duo first appeared on Visionquest for the imprints’ inaugural release in 2011 ‘Where The Freaks Have No Name’ featuring the ubiquitous ‘Walk And Talk’ - a quintessential slice of romantic techno. Then in late 2012 the ‘New Ships EP’ further demonstrated the duo’s ability to mix visceral energy with the emotional.   

o+o Gaining the title of iTunes breakthrough electronic artists of the year in 2011 and featuring in RA’s best live act poll in 2011 and 2012, they also had the tracks ‘Everybody’, ‘Principles’, ‘Let Me Count The Ways’, and ‘Walk and Talk’ variously charted in top 20 year-end polls for Resident Advisor, Mixmag and DJ Mag. The duo have since been enlisted to remix heavyweights such as Matthew Dear, Metronomy, Hot Natured and covered Daft Punk.

o+o+ This year the duo is working on completing their long anticipated debut album co-produced with DARKSIDE aka Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington, and set to be released on the magically diverse Other People imprint. A single will be dropped as a teaser in the not too distant future.

Ever since the release of The Race For Space back in February we’ve been consistently surprised by the impact The Other Side has had. Gagarin and Go! are the two most instant tracks on the album in our opinion, but the number of people getting in touch to tell us how affecting they find our ode to Apollo 8 has really been quite overwhelming, very nice and very humbling. It’s also been getting a great reaction at live shows and is fast becoming one of our favourites to play.

Sergei Korolev, or “The Chief Designer” as he was referred to at the time, was the talismanic figure spearheading the Russian Space programme and the lead designer of Sputnik. His untimely death in 1966 had a huge impact on the outcome of the Soviet battle with the United States to be the first nation to land a man on the Moon. 

The band have a major UK tour planned for November, starting out in Edinburgh which has already sold out and taking culminating in the biggest date of their career with a Brixton Academy headline show on Sunday 29 November.

Villette - Fall (Christian Löffler Remix)

ARDOR spreads it's wings over the international scene with adding the talented Dutch duo Hush & Sleep to their bill. The carefully crafted Valdar EP created by the Maastricht based duo narrates cyclical glorious myths that consist of a sequence of perfectly composed harmonic built-ups and herculean drum kicks throughout this poetic journey.

Valdar's tale starts with mesmerising rolling synths and captive trumpets followed by the profound signature kick of the talented duo that resembles the creation of cosmos sound. Yrsa then creates a very unique atmospheric build up and an extremely well composed rolling baseline with a hypnotic minimal sample in the background, creating a euphoric feeling throughout the saga. The journey goes on with Ysteri, floating and progressing on wards and upwards with a combination of triumphant melodies that describes the feeling of well deserved battle. Italian duo Speaking Minds affiliated with Berlin based label Aeon then bless us with a reworked that is very unique than their usual choice of sounds,consolidating well constructed snares and remarkable peak moments.

As the dust finally begins to settle after the release of Pan-Pot's massive album 'The Other', it's time to unleash a collection of heavy hitting reworks from the best and brightest stars of todays techno elite. Through careful consideration and an acute attention to detail, we couldn't be more elated to confirm ten artists we know and love to contribute their unique vision to Second State's first ever remix package.

Kicking things off with a heavily twisted alteration of 'Attention' is Nicole Moudaber and it's a tangled, dark trek through dense acoustic layers of audible madness. Next up is the Hamburg duo

Extrawelt with their twist on 'Optimistic Grey' and they deliver a beautiful blend of emotion and groove they are synonymous for.

Following suit is another passionately romantic number from man of the hour, Stephan Bodzin, and his take feels like floating through a sea of clouds, resulting in a timeless classic to be a focal point in any set for years to come.

Next in line is Ray Kajioka's take on '808 Nirvana' and it's a cosmic ride, ripe with swirling atmospherics laid over big churning drums and rolling cymbals.

Following up on the second 12“ of this LP is a man who needs no introduction: Carl Cox. And in true Coxy fashion he turns 'Riot' into just that: a big room, tension building monster!

Broken Engine' is the next track to get worked over and Wigbert delivers a stunning mix of shimmering tones and growling bass resulting in a lush venture through a cosmic backdrop of flickering stars in deep space.

Joseph Capriati ensues with his vision of 'Fugitives' and he brilliantly keeps the vibe of the original yet adds his trademark big room flair to take it to another level of driving euphoria.

Enlisting the talents of Alan Fitzpatrick to remix one of the slower listening tracks on the album turned out to be magic. With his signature percussion, Fitzpatrick takes the parts and creates a dive deep into sultry smooth waters of seduction.

The first of our last two remixes, which are digital exclusives, come from Paul Ritch and he delivers a grinding rendition of 'Riot', expertly crafted for the more euphoric peak time occasions.

Last and certainly not least is a man on the rise, Kevin Knapp with his twist on his own collaboration with Pan-Pot: 'Get In'. An expertly crafted tech house jam exploding with energy and attitude perfect for any moment, day or night, indoors or out.

No matter the time or place, there is something here for everyone and we are truly fulfilled and honored to present this package of cutting edge artists to celebrate this landmark moment. We know you will enjoy!
