This fresh release from Ladino Romance marks the debut EP of Istanbul-based DJ/producer MERIC.
Known for his energetic live sets that fuse house with disco, MERIC’s first official release is a mystical
deep house track that blends a lost Anatolian folk sample with blazing synths and some spoken word
poetry from E. E. Cummings reading “Anyone Lived in a Pretty How Town.” The folk sample comes
courtesy of Nezih Ünen and was featured in his brilliant documentary, The Lost Songs of Anatolia.
Remix duties are handled by Berlin-based Coss alongside Turkish producers Anatolian Sessions and
Analog Context.

HEMSHIN, the original mix, kicks things off with a percussion-heavy intro. While the chunky synth
bassline nicely builds things up, Anatolian bagpipes soon take the lead and this is where things start
to get really interesting. At the first drop, the ethnic vocals start working their magic. Atmospheric
synths add further depth to the groove until Cummings’ poetry puts the final touch. Despite being
under 5:00 minutes, it’s mysterious, multi-layered, unpredictable and quite danceable, too.

Anatolian Sessions feels right at home as he adds his signature deep house sound to the original.
With a crisper remix that is right up his alley, Anatolian Sessions doesn’t disappoint. Taking his time
while building things up with a deep bassline and reversing the order of bagpipes and vocals, he lets
it drop around the 04:15 mark before picking it up again.
Analog Context puts a different spin on the original with crossovers to melodic techno. The end
result is a proper banger that still preserves the depth of the original. Strong kicks and dreamy
synths keep things tight on the dance floor while the bagpipes lead us through mysterious
landscapes.

The final touch comes courtesy of Berlin-based Coss, who builds his remix around the Cummings
poem. Pad textures and distorted vocals lay the framework nicely. What really stands out in the Coss
remix is the bold departure from the original in favor of exploring more unchartered waters. The
pads and vocals echo early rave classics, while the groove keeps things trippy. Out from Ladino
Romance, MERIC’s first EP is an invitation to explore lost sonic landscapes, while treading new paths
on the dance floor.

The air was hot and thick making it hard to breathe in the small waiting room. She glanced up at the clock and then back down at her watch. Something strange was taking place in that room and she wasn't sure she wanted to know exactly what. As she stood up and made to leave, her name resounded around the room on the tannoy. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to have a look...

Calypso Records founders Thomass Jackson & Iñigo Vontier set up their label as a way of shining a light on Latin American artists, however for their next release they hone in on Tel Aviv and four artists making waves in the Israeli city. Entitled Tel Aviv Flavors, the EP features tracks from Middle Sky Boom, Niv Ast, Naduve and our pick from Rina; rattling drums and erratic percussion over a deep rumbling bassline.

Summer 18', two heartbroken buds find relief in music, psychedelics, and city palm trees. What started as a way to ease the grief of a heartbreak turned into a wildly mystic duo, a project formed by Eder Solorio (@GlobemasterMx) and Chris Puga (Cumbia Xillers), where percussions, tropical rhythms and the use of synthesizers are the key to go into trance with their sound.
Depresión Tropical :( plays with negative feelings, transforms and celebrates them, where no matter how sad, lonely and desolate you are, you will always end up dancing.
Human heat as a form of energy, in a dance floor where the sun is always up. Man becomes animal to the beat of happy synths and subsonic bass.
Selva neón are the rhythms of a solarpunk future that has surpassed human-kind. Nature and technology are now living together among tribe war cries, more synths and jungle-ish club vibes.
Our pick up is TYU (MX) remix who serves primitive sounds and performs synths sequences to create a Middle East trance banger.

The second volume of Nothing Is Real’s self-titled compilation builds on their towering reputation as leading lights within the global electronic music community. As the label’s first release distributed by respected Dutch record label and store Bordello A Parigi, the collection is set to further establish their international presence and spread their eclectic sound far and wide.
Bringing together diverse influences from across the spectrum of electronica and into new wave and ambient music, Nothing Is Real stand at the forefront of modern dance music as sonic innovators that continue to push boundaries with each offering.

Curated by Alberto Iovine and Alessandro Fumagalli, also known under the stage name Modular Project, this four-track collection takes listeners on a journey through the outer atmosphere of techno, expanding and evolving the genre into new forms along the way.
Cantor’s opening track kicks things off with a hypnotic, driving groove built on acidic synths, before Niv Ast & Roe Deers bring a human touch to the proceedings with a vocal-led heater that recalls classic ‘80s sounds. Dharma pairs shuffling rhythms with extraterrestrial soundscapes that recall Squarepusher and Aphex Twin, before Argia closes the record with force and momentum, surrounding voltaic synthesizers and tribal drums with expressive atmospherics.

PRÈMIÉRE: Niv Ast & Roe Deers - Nicotina [Nothing Is Real]

Hermano Emmanuel Poulper (SXDNS146/FREEDL028) is going to start 2021 sharing brand-new music with us, peeps: His forthcoming “Premonition EP” will be released in the beginning of the next year on the interesting French label Coquelicot Records and will bring two high-quality originals and two spectacular remixes made with extreme and hardcore love by two skilled ambassadors of the so-called Indie Dance/Dark Disco scene: Mexican Alvee (FREEDL019) and Lithuanian Aurum Miles. We were solicited to review the latter’s remix for the title track, and we dare to say it is the highlight of the EP.

The chemistry that exists between Emmanuel and Aurum is impressive. Even living far away from each other (in Buenos Aires and Vilnius, respectively), the lads managed to launch a label together: Quixotical Records; despite being still young, the project has already achieved worldwide recognition due to the excellence of the curation process. But let’s resume the talks about “Premonition”, shall we? Featuring Poulper himself on the vocals, Aurum’s gothic-clad version is simply beautiful! The dark and gloomy attire suited the original perfectly, and the result is a rich and ingenious post-punk interpretation.
