Toronto-born, Berlin-based producer Nathan Micay adds a ‘Radical Chic’ spin to Trance Wax’s ‘Nitedream’ featuring Jan Johnston.

Nathan Micay’s sound is rooted in classical and folk, but his path diverged when he fell in love with dance music in the 2010s. He’s released on LUCKYME, 17 Steps and Aus Music and his second album ‘Blue Spring’ is a favourite at Anjuna HQ. 

Nathan scored the music for the acclaimed BBC & HBO series Industry in 2020, and was recently invited to do a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix.

Trance Wax is an alias of Belfast-born producer Garry McCartney, also known as Ejeca. Celebrating the music he fell in love with as a teenager, his Trance Wax project began as an anonymous series of vinyl-only bootlegs back in 2015. Garry’s lovingly crafted edits of classics from Yves Deyurter, BT and Mauro Picotto became peak-time anthems for Bicep, Nina Kraviz, Denis Sulta, The Blessed Madonna and Job Jobse to name a few. A BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix followed soon after.

Two Trance Wax edits of Above & Beyond’s much-loved OceanLab project were released on Anjunabeats in 2019, with the debut Trance Wax album following in November 2020.

Scouse footie nutter Rothmans teams up with his Antipodean associate Dawn Again on the forthcoming 'Pele EP'. On this remix, acid urchins from the other end of the M62 Clandestino provide a surprise. Falling in like some fluffy cloud, the driving bass and tribal excursion soon blows away any hazed ambience. Pushing further into CinemaScope territory than other Rothmans releases, a piano refrain and delayed FX keep it sci-fi before the snares roll and the bassline wriggles it home.

Bawrut - I Hear Voices

Mexican producer Fernando Luna returns next week with a new release under his Colossio alias (which has become his permanent creative output of late). Out 18th June, 'Moto' marks his debut on Calypso Records, the label run by Thomass Jackson and Iñigo Vontier. It contains three new originals and a pair of ace remixes from Man Power and Jonathan Kusuma.

The title track is our pick - its dark, driving beat shows off Colossio's krautrock and psychedelic influences, and is bound to ensure this EP becomes a mainstay in numerous record bags.

The phone continued to ring in the empty office. Everybody had gone home for the day after a long and agonising shift under the watch of the clock. Monday was always the worst. The call would never be answered, not at this ungodly hour, however somebody sat upon the end of the line a million miles away waiting for an answer. They knew not of the tormented place on the other side of the wire. The crackle and buzz of the landline continued to throb deep into the night, it was going to be long. 

Kainté Kountix is set to release a new CD on Ville Nouvelle, a sun kissed balearic assortment of tracks with an elegant array of splendour and inner peace. "The Call" is perhaps our favourite but it's all good.

There was a coarse wind which cast a bitter spell across the morning. It was a sunny day but a fierce chill was present and upon the breeze, it carried a sweet sound of a cry from far, far away. These were Shaman echoes, a distant noise from across the ocean which had travelled softly upon the glow of the morning. It was eerie yet enchanting at the same time, beautiful yet hollow and haunting. These chants were supposed to guard and protect, to bring peace and fend off terrible spirits. To the naked ear they were whispers of evil but the naked ear was wrong. 

Sunrom is remixed on a new EP for Ancient Future Now, the latest instalment in a series of remix packages which has featured a prolific array of names. This time it is Tuff City Kids on duty, aka the infamous duo of Lauer and Gerd Janson.

'Canadian duo Joluca follow up slamming releases on Perfect Driver and Psycho Disco with a new EP on Gene Farris' Farris Wheel Recordings. "Automatic" is a techy two-tracker with a healthy dose of raw electronic funk with both the title track and b-side "Don't Wanna Talk" delivering rolling grooves, sizzling synth lines, and crisp percussion. Joluca is the combined efforts of Adam Johan and David Luca; a brotherly duo brought together by their love for peak-time rollers and studio jammin'. On this release, they collaborated with LA-based DJ and producer Travis Emmons and Edmonton-based vocalist Daniela Fernandez.'

The ghostly ethereal band Pindrops, veiled with influences from the darker sides of post-punk and shoegaze, met 2019 with a forceful release titled Reflections on the German label Young & Cold Records. Lined with energetic rhythms and devious guitar riffs while still maintaining a palpably cold and mysterious character, the EP has brought the Vilnius trio into the spotlight as they gain momentum both in the local underground and in larger stages, supporting their biggest influences such as The Soft Moon.

"Reflections Remixes" is an endeavor to link the darkness of both post-punk and electronic music. In the Lithuanian underground scene, themes of melancholy and contemplation can be felt all throughout, regardless of whether the music is played by guitar or by a DJ in a club. This 8 track remix compilation was born out of eight local producers reimagining the music of Pindrops through their unique lenses of techno, EBM, industrial and ambient, translating the unifying factors into a more harsh, more euphoric, or a more club-based aesthetic. Varied in styles, these remixes not only reflect the emerging producers, but also serve as a reflection of our scene as a whole.
Lithuanian underground bastion Ghia is set to release "Reflections Remixes" on cassette and digitally on May 9th, first offering the energetic rendition of Geist by Ement, the burgeouning DJ and producer from Kaunas, to whypeopledance.

The stars were gathered like flickering bulbs a million miles away, they flashed and dance like little particles upon the dense black backdrop in a galaxy beyond our own. They were stood upon a hillside looking up at the great expanse of space which lay beyond the realms of the imagination. They could only dream of what magic dance between the planets and the stars - what delights were hidden upon worlds very different to their own. The night was growing colder now as a thin breeze began to work between the tall dense greenery which surrounded them. Those local clusters were but a hazy vision in the midst of night. 

Seetheroad is set to release a new EP on Tusk Wax, a record label which has moved from strength to strength focussing on releasing experimental, rough, rugged electronic music. The EP also includes a remix from latest LuckyMe signing Nathan Micay who has just released his debut album. His track is a rework, drawing on the abstract elements in a holly metallic state.

Juan Maclean returns with an ever uplifting and playful offering, in the form of his 'Here In Twilight' EP - his debut release for Aus. The record as a whole offers up three original cuts, oozing with an Italo flavor - a sound that Juan has become synonymous with, yet is persistently refining with contemporary nip & tucks. The record is rounded off with a remix from arguably one of the closest followed DJ's of the past few years, Berlin-based Canadian born, Nathan Micay.

If you're a-custom to Nathan's output, you'll know that his remixes are something that he doesn't compromise on quality or without leaving his mark upon. This premiere's 'Here In The Twighlight' is no different, entering the room with a non-apologetic stonk which carries melodic features from the original cut, yet twisted and morphed with Nathan's familiar otherworldy, yet optimistic stylistic methods.
