Sinchi returns with Hary Shanthi, another member of their excellent collective who serves up a deep thinking new single steeped in traditional musicality with remixes from Anatolian Weapons and Stevie R and Parisinos. Once again, this is another not for profit release with all sales donated to the Sinchi Foundation which supports indigenous peoples worldwide. 

Indian born Amsterdam resident Hary Shanthi is an earnest sound designer and a lifelong student who experiments with technology. He believes in the Art of Equalization and Management of Varied Frequencies alongside a deep love of crate digging. He brings real truth, meaning and new means of compunction to his music.

Says the artist, "'Sivapuranam' is an attempt to raise the atman of “Manickavasagar” - a 9th century Tamil mystic, poet and Saivite philosopher - by creating the transcendental journey towards becoming one with "Siva" (that which is not) and become nothing. The track aims to prevent you from conceptualising this philosophy but rather feel it through the dematerialisation of all sounds and the merging of cosmic tones, dreamy timbre and synth oscillations which propagate in space and carry the spirit of this philosophy through the language of music."

The stunning ‘Sivapuranam’ makes use of old Carnatic instruments such as Tannumai, Tavil, Sitar, Sarawasti Veena, Konnakol (which is the art of performing percussions vocally) and Nadaswaram, and also makes use of percussion which is traditionally played to communicate particular messages over long distances. It makes for a transcendental track richly layered with these instruments as well as sleek synths and a loose, jumbled groove that makes you move.

Anatolian Weapons is Aggelos Baltas, who also releases as Dream Weapons and Fantastikoi on labels like Beats In Space Records. His music ranges from krautrock, to techno to acid to EBM and here he flips the original into a tense and rugged acid house cut steeped in rich cultural references that make it a hugely characterful as well as effective dance floor track.

Stavros Potamitis (aka Stevie R) conjures emotion and weaves sonic tales by combining the rebetiko folk music of his Greek homeland with analogue electronics. With his long term collaborator Constantinos Parisinos, he runs Inside Out Records. Their version is a slowed down, deeply mysterious dub with withering sci-fi chords and paranoid vocals making for an intriguing atmosphere. 

This is a fantastically diverse package that brings a whole new world of influence to the dance floor.

London-based Greek artists and Inside Out Records bosses Stavros Potamitis, aka Stevie R, and Constantinos Parisinos, aka Parisinos join Roam Recordings with three original offerings. Both the title track, Martian Judy, and Bugs in a Hurricane are synth laden low slung jams perfect for catching a steady groove or for just zoning out. Remina keeps the theme of dreamy synths while picking up the tempo with an upbeat mood. The EP is accompanied by a sublime remix from Glasgow based MR TC who takes Martian Judy further into dreamy acid territory.

Collectively known as Radial Gaze, St.Petersburg stalwart Andrey of Skotny Dvor club notoriety and his brother Stas bring together the former’s dance floor moves knowledge with the latter’s background in sound design and musical direction. Having already released on recognized labels Eskimo, Calypso, Hard Fist and Belly Dance Services, the duo offer up a six piece track release consisting of two originals and enlisting a slew of talents for remix duties. Exceptional synthesis of both classic and new material - this is the brothers’ go to, as is evident on both 'Fugu Taste' and ,Nido', with an added layer of mixing musical geography with tempo acrobatics. 
Our choice was remix by Salon des Amateurs resident Toulouse Low Trax who take 'Fugu Taste', reimagining it into a full on new wave exploration accenting its eerie murmurations and ominous synths.

Scottish artist BTCOP aka Richard Chisholm joins Roam Recordings with two synth laden original tracks to form the Left Without Logic EP. The release is backed by remixes from Roam alumnus Moisees and Pino. Versatile Records is a longstanding imprint which has been responsible for the release of some of the most innovative, expressive electronic music in recent years. However, it has never been a label to fall kindly into one particular niche or category. This is perhaps best showcased through the release of a new six track EP built upon playful experimentation, friendship and quick wit. 

Bright Future is a new group made up of label founder Gilb'r, Satoshi and Abel - three friends from Amsterdam who stumbled into producing music together, the result being their debut on the label. It's a wonderful mix of krautrock, electronica, acid, ddowntempo and beyond all squeezed together into one compact package which sounds rough, ready and yet a hell of a lot of fun. 

We asked the collective to take us through the story behind each track and they do so in good form, alongside a sneaky premiere of a track from the new release.

The doors were closed, the locks tightly bolted. He checked his watch, "8:55", he knew he'd made it here in good time, why had he been left out? He could smell foul play. There were several people vying for this opportunity, and he wouldn't put it past a couple of them to sabotage others to make sure it was theirs. But two could play that game he thought to himself, as he happened upon an open window round the corner...

Motek welcome close friend and Inside Out Records regular Stevie R back to the label following his ATOMS release in 2018. This time he teams up with frequent collaborator Parisinos for a collection of breakbeat and electro cuts laced with their signature Anatolian touch. Backed up by remixes from electro pioneer Carl Finlow and Motek’s own DelFin, the original track matches live instrumentation and electronic production, luring you in with its mysterious vocal chants, crunchy guitar and crisp percussion, wrapped up in a reverb.

Days, weeks and months passed without any word; all avenues of communication had run dry. It was as though he'd disappeared into thin air, leaving no trace behind him. Taking matters into their own hands, they began their detective work, leaving no stone unturned. But after following all of their leads his whereabouts remained shrouded in mystery. They wouldn't give up that easily though; the search would continue until they had their answer. 

A year after his first EP, Is This EBM?, Geneva's Brainwaves crew are gearing up for the release of Thomas Bodenständig's sophomore album, Speed Am Rhein. But the label are releasing it with mixed emotions. In May they received a box of 66 hand-numbered cassettes from Thomas, along with a largely illegible letter that seemed to detail that he was delving in high-speed trading during visits to Franfurt and had some sort of pulmonary affliction with complications. It outlined one final ask of the label — no matter what happened they must release the album before the end of 2020. 

Since receiving the package, they have had countless failed attempts at contacting him through every possible line of communication, but to no avail. His apartment in Leverkusen is now vacant, his favourite barstool in his local is gathering dust and his cellar seems to have been emptied of all of his recording equipment. They enlisted their friend to go and scour the streets and the bars, and even checked local hospital and morgue records for his name, but it's as if he's vanished off the face of the earth. 

The label are still searching for his whereabouts and they won't be giving up until they do, but on Thomas' instructions, and after six months of no news, they are releasing the album into the world with a mixture of sadness, pride and nostalgia...

Stavros Potamitis (aka Stevie R) conjures emotion and weaves sonic tales by combining the rebetiko folk music of his Greek homeland with analogue electronics. Working with a range of collaborators he offers forward thinking, avant-garde music and daring, theatrical live performances that freely blend and cross over between musical styles. As well as being a musician, producer and performer, Stevie is a lecturer at Point Blank Music College in London, runs his own record label Inside Out Records and is A & R of Chapter 24 Records. Always looking to push musical and sonic boundaries, he is just as relentlessly focused on moving things forward in his own work as he is committed to supporting the next generations to break through.
