Comforting rocks for a deeply rooted spine - Refuge, même avec ta disparition.

The best electronic music evokes feeling and inspires movement. We’re talking songs that make fans' hearts swell and call them to dance uninhibitedly. Meet Rino. A Melbourne-based composer who’s piecing records together that do just that. Born in Indonesia, Rino learnt the piano and sponged up records from an early age, thanks to his father’s career in jazz.
As a teenager, he gravitated towards alt-rock, forming ‘Aspectrum’, which
played huge festivals across the country. Most recently, Rino has submerged himself in electronic waters, creating gorgeous and forward-thinking soundscapes. Welcome to the producer’s debut body of work, Expanse. An extended play that both elevates and stretches the mind. The tonal elements employed by the Indonesian are intelligent, they leap and bound. For a first pass, this is something special.
The opener ‘Impulse’ is contemplative. A soothing roller made up of military-like drum patterns, saintly vocal sections and Yoshi-esque garble. As a first cut should, ‘Impulse’ inspires focus and jags attention.
Arriving next is the already live ‘Love Extract’. Beginning with shimmering chords and what sounds like an intense conversation between droplets of water, the Indonesian builds an effervescent sonic environment. Each and every note speaks to its successor, as the tune finds a meditative groove. A looping incomprehensible ad-lib adds yet another interesting layer as the
track climbs higher still.
Up third is ‘Bubbly (Did You Know)’. As the name suggests, this record fizzes along brutishly. Showing his versatility, Rino flips styles midway, transforming the piece into an acidic breaker.
‘W/O You’ is an emotive change of pace. Leaning into vocal harmonies from above the clouds, Rino takes listeners along a melancholic rainbow road. Hang tight for the ambient bridge, full of twinkling keys that’ll bring a tear to your eye.
Accompanying this stellar quartet comes a remix of ‘Impulse’ from Baby G. Stepping on the percussive pedal, this dark interpretation sounds like the perfect crescendo to any extended set. There’s a haunting aspect to this rethinking, as though strange spirits are on the chase. Naming the likes of Bonobo, John Hopkins and Four Tet as role models, Rino aims to craft
tracks that touch on visceral human emotions. Be it a state of sadness, reflection or euphoria, the composer asks listeners to find “value in the present moment.” Beautiful if you ask us.

The Magic Movement kicks off 2022 with a collaborative EP from Argentina’s Guuse and Berlin's Magic Jams, entitled ‘If It Were For Us’ and featuring remixes from Benjamin Fröhlich, The Oddness and RSS Disco.

On this EP, Guuse, a multi-instrumentalist and composer based out of Buenos Aires, Argentina, teams up with Magic Jams, the new Disco leaning project of label head Noema, an artist living between Berlin and Istanbul who’s been DJing, producing and collecting music since 1997.

The title-track ‘If It Were For Us’ leads the release, a dreamlike journey fusing rich textures, psychedelic guitars, bubbling arpeggios and ethereal vocals, resulting in the perfect soundtrack for a California coastline cruise in a droptop Cadillac. Are you ready to ride?

Beautifully closing the record is Alastair Lane, who demonstrates his love for japanese disco on Tokyo Love Affair. This lush production is sexy and groovy a plenty, the way any Frappé record should be.

Frappé is set for a powerful finish of the year, welcoming the great S3A as a very special guest on its 6th Various Artist EP The Godbanger to be released on December 10th. Alastair Lane, one of the hottest young talents to emerge from Paris in recent years co-stars the EP with the French funky House music don, pursuing Frappé’s tradition to bring together well-established producers and future stars of the French scene. For the party to be complete, the two guests are joined by the label co-founders Ten Fingerz and Basile the Suresnes, with the 4 artists placing The Godbanger under the sign of funk and disco, for a 5-track EP that will have you booty-shaking all night.

S3A aka Sampling As An Art contributes strongly to the record with 2 exclusive tracks that would likely be played at Studio 54 if the club was still open in 2021. The French producer is at its best with uplifting vocals and basslines on Work for NYRK and scorching trumpet loops on Slump. Put your boogie shoes on and get the party started.

Ten Fingerz’ Rue du Fonk sounds like there’s a funky house party happening around your block and you’d almost expect B-Boys to pour out of the speakers. These sirens, clavinet and trumpet loops will llikely get your head banging before you notice it.

Basile de Suresnes shows his amazing sense of groove on Get Back, a pure house music anthem with sharp drumming and a Chic-like bassline that will keep disco balls glittering until the morning comes.

Inside Out Records launch their VA series “Outsiders”, with a collection comprising of 14 unique tracks by artists that are currently breaking boundaries. Joining us on this compilation include electrifying duo Zillas On Acid, magical mystic Steve Pepe, hypnotising Surgeon’s Girl, Italians A-Tweed / Azione Spettrale, Moscow’s Kolomensky, Barcelona’s Sau Poler, Malaysian talent Ed Dix, mind bending ID_UA, passion driven Justine Forever & Order 89/ Les Deux Control, all the way to Inside Out bosses Stevie R & Parisinos, and fellow Grecian’s Veslemes and METAMAN; the sounds on display offer a broad spectrum within the realms of electronic music, but can equally be listened to from beginning to end.

The city was silent and sleeping, only restless beings roamed the streets during the twilight hours. Night time hid a multitude of sins, secrets remained so during darkness and activities of the devilish kind were never frowned upon. But in the cold light of day, the traces of debauchery remained and the fears began to seep in.

In September Atlanta-based producer and musician Stranded released his new album ‘Midnight Sun’, coinciding with the relaunch of his label Double Phantom Records. On one of the featured singles ‘Fallen’, which comes complete with a special video created by Richard Vergez, he moves away from the darker side of his productions and into dreamier realms. Blending elements of dream pop and trip hop, he channels some of his formative inspirations into the breakbeat-driven groove, from 90s Primal Scream to Spacemen 3, Spritualized and Andrew Weatherall.

The accompanying video is made up of found footage and collages that compliments the dreamy sounds, conjuring up a likeness to the imagery of Adam Curtis.

Now on R.i.O. simulating herself on an album full of weeping synthlines, melding melodies, unreeling heatre between the notes, camouflaging in fashion and rhyme. Impulsive, destructive, yet so perceptive, gently
repetitive.

“Simulate Yourself” is her second album since “Front View,” released in 2020 on Bureau B. Now the Hamburg-based filmmaker, DJ and musician Helena Ratka, aka Pose Dia, brings a notion of digital archeology. Nine otherworldly chanting cold blooded Lieder and tracks, manic, longing for the real in the unreal. The matter of her poetic-abstract lyrics is
rhizomatic, linking psychological “Suspiria” fantasy with sociology, media theory and all that never obsolete post-structuralism. Hyperreality for the hyped.

Fully illusionistic. Wrapped in touching airs, drilling into cold waving Risiko spheres. X-mal rotating towards novel corners, shading light on old ones. Track make-up transforms into lacquered songs. Fog and fire. Night and light. Hairspray and cigarettes. Pose Dia transfers fine-tuned dissatisfaction to all those fully satisfied. Welcome to the other side of the Ocean.
