“Self Determination” is a deep hypnotic tune that puts you into a state of trance. It’s a track full of thumping bass and layered textured sounds that will intrigue the listener.

Premiere: Oscar Mulero “Self-Determination” - Northallsen Records

You couldn't see anything in front of you; the darkness shrouded the trees and any living organisms inhabiting them. By day these woods felt magical but at night it felt as though something sinister were afoot – as though there were unidentified creatures waiting to pounce in the shadows. These speculations would remain as such for those who'd been foolish enough to enter had never returned to tell the tale.

Bristol-based composer and audio-visual artist Surgeons Girl caught our attention with her EP for Livity Sound last winter. Now she follows that up with an outing for London's Inside Out Records titled 'The Empress Moss': four tracks that showcase her knack for creating enchanting sonics. Coming from a classical music background, she marries this approach with her passion for analogue hardware and love of ambient and techno sounds, inviting Ombra International boss Curses to take on the remix.

Dustin Zahn drops ‘Feed The Fire EP’ ahead of full LP in November.

Active since the late 90’s, Dustin Zahn’s hypnotic and driving techno has consistently caught the ears of top DJs and labels, with releases and remixes on Chris Liebing’s CLR, James Ruskin’s Blueprint, and of course Radio Slave’s Rekids. Alongside his productions, Zahn runs the Enemy Records imprint, having released music from Regal, Truncate, and DVS1 alongside his own music since 2004.

For his latest offering on Rekids, which arrives ahead of his first full length album since 2014, Zahn leads the charge with four direct and expertly constructed techno cuts. Title track ‘Feed The Fire’ makes use of a snaking synth line, evolving in tandem with the sound of classic drum machines atop a pounding 4/4 pattern, while ‘Heresy’ leans towards the twilight hours, with tripped out bleeps, chugging percussion, and deep chords.

On the flip, ‘Profane Purposes’ sees bubbling synthesis alongside raucous claps and vocal cuts, making for a high octane techno bomb before ‘Golden Hour’ closes out the release, lowering the energy levels as twinkling keys, blissful pads, and dusty hats craft a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Scratch Massive celebrates the 10th anniversary of their cult Nuit De Reve album by enlisting new remixes from heavyweight talents including Ame, Thomas Schumacher, Manfredas, Bezier, Turbotito, MRD and more. Scratch Massive is French duo Maud Geffray and Sebastien Chenut. For their landmark 2011 album, they were joined by vocal talents Jimmy Somerville, Daniel Agust, Koudlam and Chloe. A new wave and electro masterclass took the band to a whole new level after earlier albums ‘Enemy & Lovers’ and ‘Time’ laid solid foundations. Over the last decade, the pair have remained at the top of their game with four further LPs, including most recently ‘Live in Paris’ from earlier in 2021. They are proven masters of electro-tinged, slow-motion house who have also written original soundtracks. Their knack for crafting moody, cinematic sounds makes them perennial underground favourites. This new remix album adds plenty of fresh new perspectives to their still-classic original. There are many highlights here, not least The Populist's Post-Apocalypso Remix of 'Pleine Lune', which is as rugged as electro comes.

Once in a while, you hear music that just hits you in all the right places and feels like the perfect fit for your ears and your mind. 

This 4-tracker by Anna V. was one of those for me. 4 great individual pieces that together paint the perfect picture.

I have known Anna V. for years and can assure you she is an artist with great depth, talent, and passion. It shines through from her personality and into her music. To me, that is especially noticeable on this Noir Music release entitled “Aether”.

I hear all her emotions flowing through the soundscapes and although we are dealing with deep, dark techno pieces they all have a distinct sense of hope and light deeply integrated. 

For me, it was love at first listen and I am proud to release these tracks and welcome Anna V. to the Noir Music family.

A sparse, driven, dirty framework with proto/early Chicago influences, saturated with acid squelches and dispersed vocals. A never disturbing anxiety combines to fuel the intensity of the first five tracks. Castlevania shifts the chaos parameters to a more melodic, but still out there, smoke-machine anthem. Franz Scala brings proceedings back down to Earth with his remix, landing in a sunrise moment sometime in early eighties New York.
