Berlin-based Russian-German selector Dmitry Gusev returns for his 8th contribution to Avenue Red, this time again laying down a lot of his favourite oldskool deep house, nu jazz & techno records. Many of his inclusions also happen to be some of our favourite records from that era too. What a tightly mixed, delightfully colourful and heartfelt autumn mixture of vibes we have here!

Radio Guesthouse 60 – Mark Broadbent

This is a special one, a family one.

Rosie Ama (Cain), as I’m sure you all already know, is a London-based DJ, radio host, and founder of Human Endeavour Records. She’s been in the fam a while now, operating on the outer fringes of dance music… which is exactly where you want to be if you're trying to avoid mainstream success and financial stability.

Having cut her teeth as a writer and editor for online music platforms Stamp The Wax and this here Ransom Note, Rosie demonstrated such exemplary dedication to underground culture that we eventually had to take disciplinary action against her. The subsequent court settlement led to the founding of Human Endeavour; sometimes the best label launches emerge from legal disputes, rather than business plans.

Officially launching in 2022 (once the legal paperwork was finalised), it serves as a platform for artists operating in the deep, dark and hypnotic corners of electronic music and has welcomed artists like Anastasia Zems, Justine Forever, Nandele, Medicine 8 and Thomass Jackson over the years.

Before doing her own thing, Rosie made up one half of Kiara Scuro alongside friend Nadia, a DJ and production partnership that released music on Fabric Originals, Ritmo Fatale and Faux Poly, as well as long-standing radio residencies on Rinse FM and Balamii Radio. After a decade together, she’s gone solo turning her full attention to the label and her monthly Noods radio show, Melodic Odds, that showcases her love for sleazy low-slung chuggers, leftfield acid house and synth-driven 3am groovers. 

Whilst I’d never tell her this to her face, it’s actually a delight to welcome her back to the fold - this time without the need for lawyers - for a mix that captures her hypnotic, trippy vision of what dance music can be when nobody's watching the figures…

Phil Kieran, our special guest, took on us on a masterclass with an extended set, flowing through different genres including some of his own productions. Dancefloor locked until the very end when the lights went on.

A pioneer of electronic music, Phil has been at the forefront of the underground for over two decades, with releases on some of the most respected labels in dance music (Cocoon, Hotflush, Turbo, Electric Deluxe, Optimo Music, Soma, Hot Creations, Kompakt, and Skint). Alongside his solo work, he also explores a more melodic dimension with his acclaimed Le Carousel project, showing the full depth of his artistry.

It was an honor to have him close the party, such a great musician and person.

The empty space lay abandoned and bare. In the middle of the warehouse there was nothing which demonstrated that an enterprise had ever existed here. The brick walls lay bare and cold, the metal pillars loomed hauntingly. This was now a place which would soon be forgotten, one of the many buildings lost to the grunge and despair of a city in a state of alert. All around this place businesses had begun to leave, they had been bought out, priced out and as a result their ability to produce had collapsed. Cavitation was all that existed, all around. The shells of a life now vanished.

He might as well be on another continent, the nagging would still somehow find a way to penetrate and torment his brain. He had heard about the trouble the noise had caused for others. They had been haunted, some had even gone mad they said. He had always hoped it would never be this bad but right now it was unbareable. 

Mike Simonetti & Ryan Parks have recently compiled a release called 'Harsh Riddims' which is set to be released by 2MR on Friday this week.

The sun cast a dreamy glow over the sand dunes. Night was about to fall across the Gobi Desert and not a sound could be heard. The blue light faded into the distance and all that was left but darkness. You could smell the heat in the night's air, it clung to you like a warm embrace. Many people had longed to walk across this beautiful landscape but few had ever been brave enough to take the risk. The possibility that one might die in the middle of nowhere was too haunting for many, no matter how stunning the burial. 

Peur Bleue return with yet more charm and lush sounds as they are set to release a new EP from Benoit B. His new EP, titled 'Tropico Timelexia', sees an enchanting take on house and soundscapes.

Something had happened. But our minds were too nebulized, our visions to blurry to remember what it was. When we stopped searching for our inner and outer selves in past tenses we eventually fully realized it was the future we had to sharpen our senses for. In the things that lay upon us, things that were bound to happen, we would find shelter. That universally necessitated shelter, which we could rely on, would give us possibilities to conquer unseen grounds to walk on. Only then we would find out it was not us envisioning this new land, but the land that envisioned us, that saw us firmly walking on its unspeakable grounds, allowing us to go wherever we could imagine ourselves to go to. We fly toward grace.

Rhytch is an artist based in Berlin. When we were originally approached by the label about featuring a track from his forthcoming LP 'Baba Ganoush' it was through a friend. It was quite the introduction and the record is an exciting prospect. Ancient Future Now, a label from Cologne, are set to release it.

The human race had now abandoned this place, they had deemed to too extreme to inhabit anymore. Now, nature could be left to its own devices without the imprint of man. A new dawn was born. 

Uqbar is the latest artist to release on Sempor Memor. He delivers an ep of prestigious quality and expertly crafted electronics for the label which has been on form as of late.
