Aguonėlė (Poppy) was a name of a child who lived somewhere in the fields of Lithuania with her grandparents. The fable says Aguonėlė was haunted by a tricky wolf who kidnapped her and carried into the woods. 

We called a few people we love and showed them the sample of the story that later was used to create this EP. All of them agreed to participate in the ways they could. 

This release was created by the artists, who became personal favourites since the time we met. As a channel, party series, podcast, and freshly formed label, we’re glad to gather those who participated, inspired, and helped us in one way or another. 

Inside you’ll find fine breaks and trance, wavy delics and music to dance. From drum n bass to techno, a bit of house and some downtempo. 

Also, as briefly mentioned above, it’s a debut release for our small group of people who think, share and cooperate for the sake of this project being. 

It’s varied but integral.

Emerging from the shadows, Hesperius Draco returns to Frigio with a solo release for the first time since his 2016 album Actus Tragicus.

Directive V conjures up the magic of giallo horror, silver screen slashers and smoky synthlines, while exploring something altogether new. Tempered percussion and low bass-lines “introduce the 12” with “Lexploitation”. Cinematic influences percolate in the steady percussion and lonesome elation of “Memories of Sex Desire.” The mood changes on the flip with “Leaders In Space.” Guitar strings and breathy samples blend to create a leering late lounge track spiked with acid notes and vocoder bitterness. The finale brings something totally different. The gurgling acid line is amplified as Hesperius Draco unveils “Cyber Bondage.” Floor centric and machine steeped, stabbing synth-lines, rusted rhythms and an inchoate energy course through this finale to display yet another side of Alessandro Parisi’s sound.

PREMIERE: Hesperius Draco - Cyber Bondage [Frigio Records]

Sand had blown over the deep footprints that followed them for several miles; hopefully they could still find their way back to camp without the markings. The weather had become more and more extreme, grains of sand blinded them and lodged in their throats as they fought their way through the wind, it made it difficult to make out the shapes of the dunes and the trees around them. Suddenly something came into view; a huge towering sculpture that felt incredibly alien against the landscape. Maybe it was just a mirage or a figment of their imagination, but it seemed to be looming closer and closer casting an unsettling silhouette against the dark sky. 

Samo Records open their doors to a new batch of artists for the fourth edition of their annual compilation series. Just like the titles of each instalment suggest - so far we've had Sphere, Spiral, Cube and now Polygon - the music comes in all different shapes and sizes, giving a snapshot of the influences that the label hold dear. For 2022's outing, they bring together several artists including Virtue Signal, Jack Carel and Gem Wallow, who offer up their own dark, psychedelic takes on electro, EBM, machine funk and leftfield electronics.

Robust drums and resonant synths are covered under a thick layer of distortion in ‘Heathers’, the title track from Man 2.0’s upcoming release on Black Light Smoke’s Death Decay Magic. Running it up, ‘Blam Blam’ throws a barrel of acid over fragmented signals and smooth analog grooves resulting in dark disco dancefloor madness meant for basements or warehouses.

We enter the mainframe in ‘Software Cracked’, characterised by warping synths and sample wizardry, culminating into a mind-melting climax during the breakdown. ‘Heathers’ is then given an aptly named reverse cowbell mix, courtesy to Glasgow’s Fear-E, before label head Black Light Smoke remixes ‘Blam Blam’ with his signature vocal electronic body music charm.

London-based DJ and producer MAN2.0 graced the decks in Berlin, Edinburgh, Manchester and Glasgow as well as rocking the closing two Tribes parties at London clubbing institution the Cause. He’s released on labels like Nein Records, Wonder Stories, Hypnotic Connection and now Death Decay Magic, and is a favourite amongst DJ’s such as Paul Woolford, Laurent Garnier, Justin Robertson and many more.
