Australian imprint @pocketmoth step into the double digits with an EP from close friend of the label, George Hickman. Operating simply as George, ‘Strange Ways’ is the first transmission from this new project and a fine example of his aptitude for crafting deep, transportive work.

The first bank holiday of the year is upon us and though we can't celebrate in the club, we've got the next best thing to soundtrack your six-person outdoor gatherings: a high energy mix from rave advocate, DJ and label owner Roni. 

The Paris-based artist's pursuits are fuelled by her love of euphoric and transportive electronics, from jungle and breakbeat to techno and rave, which you can get a heavy dose of through her regular transmissions on Rinse France. 

Recently Roni's moved into the label world too, launching her imprint Nehza Records with a 5-track EP from Neida that continues to explore the sounds and styles within her own DJ sets. Taking its name from the 1979 animated film 'Nezha Conquers The Dragon King' by Wang Shuchen—a story of a prince reversing the world order by defeating a dragon—the label seeks to raise awareness of our connection to nature and the way we look after the planet. 

Following the release, which we premiered a track from, we invited Roni to take us into the weekend with a mix of euphoric breakbeat and gnarly jungle cuts. Hold on to your hats...

Roni: The 'Shine A Light On' Mix

For the third stop of our Huacast series we are fortunate to get a peek into the record bag of CHENG NWSH @chengnwsh . 
As co-founder of event series and record label Awkwardly Social @awkscl he has become an important audible part of the Berlin underground with regular shows on HÖR and THF Radio. 
For this mix the guanxi master dug out some of his groovier and melodious b-sides and blended them beyond genre restrictions (exactly how we love it).

Surpises are good, surprises are interesting, surprises are what keeps things exciting. It's always nice to receive an email from a musician or an artist who offers something different. 

Vonpsyche is a self described "hip-hop producer and obscure underground rapper". However, this mix couldn't be further from this, across many years he has dabbled in downtempo electronica and has since channeled new energy into a project in which to focus these creative ambitions.

Based in the West Siberian Plain he channels elements of abstract ambient alongside house and techno into poignantly crafted soundscapes and musical wanderings. This mix is perhaps a suitable representation of that - a subtle affair which captures a certain energy and emotion, a mix built as much for thought and self reflection as it is the dance. There is a delicate precision and a unique understanding in the mixing and in the track selection, we hope that you appreciate and hear this in the same way that we do.

DECENNIUM23 - Paul Blackford (CPU, Militant Science)

The 23rd edition of our DECENNIUM series comes courtesy of UK legend; Paul Blackford (CPU, Militant Science).

Since his first EP in 2003 on DMX Krew's Breakin' Records, Paul Blackford has released regularly on various labels, evolving his sound from fast drum machine driven electronic funk to a more recent down tempo IDM Hip Hop flavour. This latter style has been especially apparent in Paul's newer releases, such as his widely acclaimed albums 'Light Years' and 'Betamax' for Sheffield giants, Central Processing Unit. 

Paul also founded his own label; Militant Science, in 2009, with the aim to bridge the gap between Electro & Drum n Bass. Notorious for it's high tempo, underground Machine Funk, Militant Science has gained reputable status in the underground scene.

Over the years Paul has performed live sets around the world, gained support from many contemporaries within the music industry and has also had airplay on both independent and mainstream radio stations. He has fully cemented his status as a pioneer in the electronic music world.

It has an honour to have Paul feature this meticulously crafted set for our DECENNIUM series, which was recorded exclusively for Natural Selection.
