"Although the music we play together as Scenic is guitar heavy, we have a secret love affair for the deeper side of dance music. This mix is a collection of old classics and new jams we've been in love with lately. It’s a mixture of songs that we consistently play out or have on repeat around the house. We've tried to keep the songs short with fast mixes, showcasing our favourite parts from as many tracks that we could fit with-in an hour. The mix ranges in genre from psychedelic breakbeat to cosmic slow trance, sounds of the amazon and cavernous house. Included are some of our favourite electronic producers of the moment namely the likes of Psychemagik, Joakim, Tornado Wallace, Charles Murdoch and Lone."

When we started throwing our Dancing On The Charles parties next to Boston’s most famous river back in 2008 we had no idea it would become the inspiration for a now annual music compilation showcasing the immense talent of Boston's electronic music producers. In fact we had no idea we’d ever even have our own record label! Yet, here we are in 2014 proudly presenting the second edition of DOTC. A collection of music embodying the spirit and persistence that once fueled those epic riverside summertime parties and continues to guide the Boston dance music scene.

Dancing On The Charles Volume 2 picks up where Volume 1 left off and features an even more diverse range of music. An overall deep feeling is this years’ theme as we dive into a 13 track selection from repeat contributors and new Soul Clap Records recruits. Returning to the comp is quickly rising deep house talent Caserta, our favorite afro-funk producer of 2013, Bosq (who has teamed up with us, Soul Clap), Bon Jonson (this time appearing as Nightriders AND Peyote Purple), Tate Masimore aka Chas Bronz (who presents his new project The Sheffield Boys with young guns Smeed & Suspence), and of course the smoothest of the smooth Roldy Cezaire. New artists include: Boston tech-house staple Tamer Malki, former Phoenix Landing resident D-Lu (this will be her very first release!), disco-connector Serge Gamesbourg and all around disco dude Brenden Wesley, Tuck Diggz (working alongside Mystery Roar) and new Boston transplant James Cook who we've been following since his college days and are finally getting out on our label!

Time flies when you’re having fun. Six more years can blink by and who knows where we’ll be. One thing’s for sure, we’ll never forget where we came from and Dancing On The Charles Volume 2 is our latest tribute to our hometown.

On June 30th, 2014, German music duo Rey & Kjavik will bring their new EP into stores: "Prototype". Until recently the public didn't even know the band members behind their alias. Their name draws attention to the capital of Iceland, Reykjavik, and that happens for a reason. Both music producers want their music to speak for itself instead of faces or tattoos. They gave us an interview to talk about why they want their identity to be kept secret, about their new release (stream premiere by trndmusik) and Rey & Kjavik Records.

trndmusik: Why do you want your identity to be kept secret?

Rey & Kjavik: It's all about our music. We believe that music can stand for itself and always finds its audience. Neither one guy, nor the background story, nor tattoos, nor leather jackets should distract the listener from what's really important. We produce music, you either feel it or leave it. That's the way it should be.

Rey & Kjavik - Prototype

There’s no question that one of Jennifer Cardini’s most prominent protégé’s is Man Power. Operating for her Correspondant Records imprint, establishing what seems to be quite a solid relationship, the Parisian-based outfit has become the home for the entirety of his outputs including his soon to be finished debut album. Bearing a unique approach to production, his sound is self-described as "cinematic" and will no doubt be perfectly presented in the forthcoming LP upon release.

Catching him as he finishes the final touches on the record, we had a quick chat with Man Power about the aforementioned album and his Room Two set next month, grabbing an exclusive new mix along the way.

1. Please share some basic info about yourself, your music background and the real story of how it really happened?

I grew in Washington, DC playing all types of music, went to art school in Chicago continued to make music when I relocated to New York. I eventually had a few hit records here and there and various collaborations and it brought me to where I’m at today doing music full time.


2. You are NYC based, could you give us an insight on the NYC and US club scene ? 

New York like every other big city is always changing and evolving with what people are doing. Plenty of new blood and those who have been doing it for years, I’m happy to be a part of the music scene and all the venues that support it.

3. The most weird party that you have played at ... How do you recall that ?

Nothing too weird about it, but last weekend I played at Bossa Nova Civic Club here in Bushwick which felt more like a sauna - all hot and sweaty with everyone going for it with the bangin system. That was super fun, reminded me of a few years back when I played in an abandoned bath house in Manhattan. Proper summer.

5. You run a label with Nik Mercer called Let's Play House, can you share some more info on it with us?

Nik and I started putting events in New york together 5 years ago. The label started with James Friedman a few years after bringing together acts we’d worked with or shared music with. Now we're a full on record label with a solid release schedule.

6. Is their anything exciting from Jacques Renault and Let's Play House that we should be keeping an ear out for over the summer?

LPH has some great music coming out before the summer is over! I have 2 new remixes and then a new EP out this Fall!

Mexico City has been one of my favorite cities in the world to play to their enthusiastic music people.

My last visit there was no exception, exchanging great energy between the floor and the DJ booth all night long. The crowd was amazing, I could ride to the different places musically throughout my set because of the people there at the night. I was spoiled!
