Safety Model - Hymnal

We’re very excited to unveil our latest signing Safety Model and their debut EP Hymnal!

“The red pours from the blue, as we remain luminous, forever scorching under the light.”

‘Hymnal’ is a series of hymns, simultaneously heavy but weightless, empty yet filled with light, each carrying its distinct sensory color. Dedicated to friends and the self, and guided by four meditative but disconcerting pieces, Safety Model takes us on a journey through the kaleidoscopic gauge of existence as life’s forces press, lift, and shake the body and mind.

The EP opens with ‘Point Blank’, closest in proximity to one’s truest essence. Enveloping sounds lull you into their embrace as brittle mechanical textures weave in and out, provoking the senses into fight or flight. Capturing the moment of waking to the self, magnifying the friction between shock and surrender, between fight and acquiescence, the body registers that which cannot be registered. Loss of memories, of love, of life, of self. Point Blank is represented by the color yellow.

‘Feathers (City)’ is the sonic incarnate of colossal yet fragile brutalist spaces; dusty basements that collapse into expansive cityscapes, perpetually decomposing and reassembling through the hymn’s aural extremes. Grounded, heavy textures are interwoven with waves of gauzy synths like wings; harshness and violence meet subtle femininity, reflecting the tension of the inescapable sensory burden of urban life. ‘Feathers (City)’ is represented by the color red.

‘Where The Lights Don’t Fall, They Press Down Instead’ is the moment of light intruding on the inner self, when even closed eyelids cannot shield the soul. A forced reflection, abstraction as touch, emulating the sense of brightness pressing down. An intimate ballad with operatic falsetto vocals accompanied by levitating resonances of rusted tone, offering a glimpse into the future of Safety Model. Where The Lights Don’t Fall, They Press Down Instead is represented by the color green.

‘Fall Of Self’ is the final acceptance: the scattered memories don’t and won’t matter. With its stretched strings ringing for an indiscernible duration, suspending time through a seemingly endless crescendo, ‘Fall Of Self’ serves as the temporal counterpart to ‘Point Blank’. A hymn to safety, endurance, and reflection. ‘Fall Of Self ‘is represented by the color blue.

‘Hymnal’ will be released October 3rd via Changeless.

It's almost ludacris to think that Slam, the Glaswegian techno duo from the North have been producing and releasing records for almost thirty years now. Throughout that time they have been involved in the formation of the Soma label, the imprint which released the earliest Daft Punk records, music from Surgeon, Funk D'Void and many many more. Slam's influence as a duo has been prolific and they are appreciated and respected across the world as much as they are in their hometown. Stepping up to the table with something a little outside the norm, we put the pair through their paces as they contribute an all ambient mix to our Monday series which sees them delve deep through the relams of Global Communication and beyond. This one is pretty special.

一月二十五號夜請來生於法國，現定居柏林的DJ/收蔵家Laura BCR來到宀作為嘉賓。Laura BCR曾舉辧雲集歐洲各地DJ的On Board派對，現時她於海牙夜店Het Magazijn駐場，也曾為巴塞隆拿的Razzmatazz駐場DJ，Laura BCR似乎與舞池結下不解之緣。

On the 25th of January, 宀 invites the French born Berlin based DJ and music collector Laura BCR who created the famous On Board parties featuring very talented DJs all around Europe. She is currently resident DJ of the acclaimed and intimate Het Magazijn club in The Hague... a girl who knows her dancefloor very well.

成長於法國，Laura BCR自少年時期開始收集音樂，把各類音樂混音重新編排等等，受到當時Rave派對文化啓發，類型可橫跨由Hardcore到House Music。

French born and raised, Laura BCR has been dedicated her life to music for more than a decade. She has been collecting music from her teenage years, starting mixing all kind of genres from Hardcore to House Music inspired by Rave Parties where she was hanging out during several years.

2006年Laura BCR與份屬好友的Etienne(Arcarsenal其中一位成員)在法國南部的夜店舉辦她首個派對，小休後數年她搖身一變成巡演經經理人，2013年她再回歸音樂與Etienne於柏林新克爾恩區開辦了唱片店Bass Cadet Record，維持了三年半。

In 2006, she organized her first party in a club in the South of France with her best friend Etienne from Arcarsenal. After a hiatus, touring as production manager during a few years, she came back to her first love in 2013 and opened with Etienne the infamous Bass Cadet Record store in Berlin during 3 years and a half in the heart of Neukölln.

From 2018, she is resident at The Hague intimate techno club, Het Magazijn. Her DJ sets are always super versatile from deep to straight techno, mixing electro and classic house tracks to spice it up.

One of the best aspects of music is its ability to connect people from all corners of the globe. Our next guest comes from Australia, a place which isn't always known for its music but indeed has a thriving underground scene thanks to the hard work of locals. Magda Bytnerowicz is one of these special few who have helped build up the musical landscape around her both as a promoter and as a DJ. Her inspired and dream-like sets have been known to sweep the audience away to a place of pure ecstatic joy. It is exactly this keen ear for atmosphere and deep understanding of musical sequence that has made her a perfect pick for UNRUSH. So relinquish yourself in these impressions of the southern hemisphere with this impeccable mix.

A few words from Magda about the story of her mix:

My young son is an early riser and he went through a phase of waking just before 5am for a few months. It's such a strange time of the morning - somehow 4:45am feels very different to 5:15am if you have a whole day ahead of you. It's still dark, and too early for breakfast and coffee and getting ready for the day, but somehow, we're awake and have to fill the time. This mix is the sort of music I would play in that eerie hour and a bit while we waited for the sun to come up and the day to begin - not really truly 'ambient' as it needed to be a little more active, and feel as though time is moving forward. Also, a little bit of an Australian digi dub focus came out of it too, old and new.
