I discovered Frankie Knuckles through his music, one that was, gentle, lush with a subdued, understated power that rocked many a dancefloor.
I had the privilege to hear him once in the heyday of his legendary residency at Sound Factory Bar in New York. I was submerged, sonically and emotionally by the beauty of the music I heard that night. I remember very clearly saying to myself that this would be impossible to ever equal.
That was 20 years ago, and I never got to hear this magic combination again.

I got to meet Frankie a few times, and he was always like his music, gentle, humble,   yet naturally imposing

I've put together here some of my favorite music from him. So that his legacy can keep on inspiring other people.

Rest in peace, Frankie, may your music keep on moving people eternally

Prince Valium Mix - 60 Minutes Of Funk

An integral member of the Bristolian trio, Livity Sound - alongside Peverelist and Kowton - Asusu (aka Craig Stennett) is admittedly the less well-known name in the outfit. But after making his debut on the Project Squared label back in 2009, he’s steadily amassed a run of 12” singles that place him quite pointedly within the circle of artists pushing the techno axis into new and interesting directions - especially considering the Livity label’s impact with their run of four singles and their compendium like compilation last year (a result of which they were voted the label of 2013 by RA). 

Seeming very much like an equal project, Livity Sound’s appeal comes from them presenting such a determinedly unified front, simply creating their own brand of raw, uncompromising music to dance to. As part of their mantra’s legacy, Asusu’s tracks have been remixed by artists like A Made Up Sound, Nick Hoppner and MMM and the trio’s combined live set has toured venues across the world. Ahead of his appearing in Room One for the June leg of the Hessle Audio residency alongside the Hessle trio and Matthew Herbert, Asusu’s put together this rather exclusive 55 minute mixtape which, with tracks from Jeff Mills, Beneath, Szare, Pris and Batu, really helps to further illustrate his position perfectly.

Asusu - FABRICLIVE x Hessle Audio Mix

Leeds-based house duo Bonar Bradberry and Tom Thorpe have been working together as PBR Streetgang for coming up to a decade now, cutting their musical teeth on their home city’s infamous nightlife, and developing into an act that’s equally known for their quality studio output on labels like 20:20 Vision and Futureboogie, as well as their reputation for using the back-to-back setup to maximum dynamic effect in their DJ performances.

Thus as fans of PBR, when the boys take an interest in the development of an up and coming artist it piques our curiosity into seeing what said artist has to offer. After one listen to their remix of emerging singer/songwriter Charlotte OC’s ‘Colour My Heart’ she had not only our curiosity but our full attention as we set about securing the track for exclusive premiere here on Data Transmission.

With her debut Colour My Heart EP still making waves from last year as the Blackburn born Charlotte’s ode to a special night in Berlin’s Berghain and a full remix EP to follow soon get a taste of things to come on the upcoming release with this ace rework by PBR Streetgang!

The Miami-based L.I.E.S. and Apron correspondent mixes up a bunch of techno and electro for our 89th podcast. 
According to the man himself, we have the much-maligned internet to thank for the music of Greg Beato getting picked up for release by Apron and L.I.E.S. last year. All four 12"s issued in 2013 bearing the name of Greg Beato suggested that the Miami-based producer was capable of crafting some tripped out dancefloor material many veteran artists would be jealous of (not to mention the grip of memorable track titles he's been responsible for). This impression transfers to Beato's record playing skills, with the official L.I.E.S. tagline that he "DJs like a seasoned veteran who has been in the trenches fighting the fight for a long time" more than re-emphasised on his mix for Juno Plus. Clocking in at 75 minutes long, Beato skilfully runs through all manner of unidentifiable techno and electro on a mix that's been getting some serious repeat plays in our office.

Those wishing to catch Greg Beato in his element will be happy to discover that this month sees the youngster embark on a European tour, commencing with in Berlin with further events lined up in Paris, Milan, Frankfurt and a London date with Legowelt and Route 8 for the Find Me In The Dark crew. Despite Beato's acknowledgement that the internet played a key role in his music gaining wider recognition through FunkinEven and Ron Morelli's respective labels, the producer seems less inclined than many of his contemporaries with engaging in the self-promotion game, which made it somewhat of a surprise when he agreed to participate in answering some questions to accompany his mix. Juno Plus Podcast 89: Greg Beato

Justin Robertson... what an absolute legend! A much over-used phrase in this day and age but one that completely befits Mr Robertson.

Twenty three years at this thing called doof doof and beyond, he's an innovator and restless proponent of fascinating forward thinking music. 

A rich history matched only by his tireless need to keep pushing forward, as a result he remains one of the most relevant and exciting DJ/Producers around under his incredibly prolific Deadstock33s current moniker. 

Still hugely relevant today, we've seen him in the last few years look just at home tearing apart the main stadium-sized rooms at WHP's previous home Victoria Warehouse as he does in sun-kissed outdoors on an Adriatic coast at Electric Elephant. We were honoured to have him play for us at our beloved stage at Farr last year - he was so great that he's back again this year to play the hallowed sunset set. It’s what sets a great selector out from someone who merely calls themselves a DJ. 

So it's a privilege, nay a celebration that we've finally pinned him down for the Ransom Note mix. And he's turned in an Alfresco Jacking Excursion... a cracker it is too.
