Yannick Labbé, Producer, DJ and former half of the now defunct Trickski steps into the limelight as a solo artist. Trickski's unpredictable, extra-terrestrial style mixed Rare Groove with Techno and House producing a raw electronic framework which gave birth to the all-conquering Pill Collins towards the end of the pair's journey together.

With the project put fimly to bed Yannick picks up his own musical thread in 2015 which has given rise to a plethora of solo-releases, remixes and co-productions... so we thought it about time to ask him to lay down his sublime musical mandate for the Ransom Note mix. This Afrohouse remix of Bissa Fatoumata delivers a powerful fusion of deep tribal percussion, textured rhythms, and hypnotic grooves while preserving the soulful essence of the original. Crafted for both intimate dancefloors and expansive festival stages, the track blends African tradition with modern electronic energy, offering a journey that is both emotional and uplifting.

Thyra [Minimal Groove Concept]

This offering by Berlin-based, world-influenced label Disco Halal presents three tracks that 
result from the collaboration between the Brazilian DJs and producers Selvagem and Carrot 
Green (who combine releases on BIS Inc, Universal Cave, Hello Sailor, Barefoot Beats, 
Brazilian Shakedown and Magic Movement). Exploring local melodies from the 60’s and 70’s, 
they built tracks that turn those sounds in some sort of exotic techno beasts, only with that 
tropical flavor. This black magic-blessed EP opens up with Ossain’s killer strings, psyched-out 
vocals and percussive breakdowns, followed by Dengo, a slow burner based on a candomble 
chant that, along with the flute, cowbell, and clapping, puts the audience into a spell.The B-side 
brings Vandre, a throbbing 126-bpm track carried by a lovely guitar and singalong vocals by one 
of Brazil’s most iconic protest singer. The package is complete with the remix by the ever 
growing italian duo Marvin & Guy, who kept the hypnotic aura with their lush minimal sounds. A 
crossover release hard to pin down, but all around.

Although Gabriel Berlanga has done the rounds, with records & mixes out on labels such as Correspondant, Nein and Melomana, undoubtedly here his Aeromuerto EP on Beachcoma brought this to us. A wonderful homage to analogue synths and the 16 step sequenced journeys they created brought aching joy to this R$N fella. Familiar at Razzmatazz, The Loft and Moog, Barcelona loves Undo.

With his own Factor City Records label (which has featured Club Bizarre, Offset and Morgan Hammer) to look after too, we asked the salt & pepper haired Catalonian to do a mix for us. And give us a little about his favourite food and stuff.

Sinchi & Friends 54 is London based Richard Baldwin aka @thesovietunion . We were first introduced to Rich's music by our friends No Strings Attached and the rest as they say is history. We fell in love with his track 'Anamnesis' and we were proud to release as the first on the @phantasm-records vinyl label featuring a special remix from In Flagranti and one from ourselves. Get to know the man behind it all below - 

1) Introduce yourself?

Hi I'm Rich... I’ve been fiddling around with music in some form or other as long as I can remember, and have always been fascinated by synthesizers and drum machines from a young age. I’ve made music in a meaningful fashion since I was a teenager. 

2) What have been your highlights from the last 12 months?

Being asked to release Anamnesis on the brand new Phantasm Records was a definite high. The original track was recorded some time ago so it’s strange how things work out. 

3) What do you have lined up for the coming year?

I’m working on a few things, mostly trying to utilize the analogue hardware I love so much. I’ve recently repaired an old Roland favourite, so will hopefully make my setup a little more permanent.

Wit Bad is the result of a beautiful collaborative project that started with illustrator Joost Stokhof. He was asked as an artist in residence for Amsterdam’s Hortus Botanicus, a place where Joost locked himself up for a week alongside the finest biodiversity in the city. Joost asked Eefje de visser to join him for a day and Eefje asked Nuno dos Santos to form a powerful trinity of which Wit Blad is the unmistakable evidence.

The original version was released in April of 2018 and we finally have a vinyl (only) version to go along with it. On the A side we find an 808 version, which is an extended version by Nuno of the ‘Wit Blad’ original. Zooming in on the drums and bass line while leaving even more space for Eefjes haunting voice. Eefje is one of Holland’s best kept music secrets, her voice is soothing and her presence like a siren song seducing you in. Immersing the music with field recordings, you can hear the birds and surroundings the piece was recorded and even some whispering voices that only add to the atmosphere.
Flipping to the other side we find our dear friend Mattheis remixing Wit Blad in a strong hypnotic vibe. Containing Mattheis’ trademark synth swirls, it’s as soothing as it is driving with spine tingling harmonics slowly creeping in and out.

This all comes packaged in a silkscreen printed cover containing the illustrations that Joost Stokhof made during their time together. The vinyl also includes a small poster including extra images by Joost and the lyrics of Wit Blad. Adding up to a beautiful feast for both the eyes and ears.
