The rōnin roamed the countryside, free from commitment, devoid of favour or privilege, a wanderer without a home. He served no master and feared nothing on earth, his heart as free as a bird and his mind as clear as the morning breeze.

It’s up to those brave men to complete the dirty dozen: Slovakia’s Csabi who is known for his releases on Cenobite Records, Dutch doomcore producer Life Runs Dark, mysterious newcomer HadalZone who has recently released a dystopian EP on Spirit Of Progress, and label boss The Relic.

Different in origin, united in attitude: This compilation showcases the state of the art in in the experimental hardcore section. All tracks evolve around harrowing vocal samples, employ doomcore melodies and atmospheres and dazzle the listener with a highly vibrant rhythm section, ear-shattering and dynamic with breakdowns and shifts all in the right places. Pure energy!

C&C tracks with their raw structure are a perfect template for remixes. Three Noisj.nl regulars have a go and prove how joyful it is to apply your own style to strange material: Busy bee Relapse from London turns the rather recent crossbreed smash “Rock’n Rollers” into a classy, fast industrial hardcore tune. Australian act Kader manages to pile even more distortion on “Life: Hardcore” and the unmistakable Audio Nail turns it into a hilarious, short radio play about rock’n’roll attitude - culminating in a tempest of dirty beats of course, and isn’t that where it always ends?

Taking a break from his vocation of forging the industrial hardcore sound, The Relic made a very unique mix with (almost) all of his favorite dance tracks from the late 80s and early 90s, a time when genres and styles were not fragmented like today, when it was all just house music. "Total Recall" is a more than adequate title for a number of huge mixes, also paying homage to the 1990 sci-fi/fantasy classic.

This is Part 1 of 'The Beginning', the first part of what will add up to a huge acid, new beat, hip house and oldschool megamix of no less than six hours and stand as the prequel to the already infamous „Second Stage“ mix which assembled the entirety of early hardcore classics.

The Relic - Instinct

History lesson: E-Rush’s FIX Records became The Relic’s first label in the early 00s, where he put out his work under different aliases. This track was produced around 2005 and bound to become FIX 19 – but as the label went defunct, it was never released. Rediscovered and resurrected from some hard drive it is now made available for free. But beware: One is struck by the amount of massive darkness that was already a feature of The Relic’s productions back then!

[PREMIERE] WZX_O - Rave Doc (TFT001)

Industrial hardcore has been one of the most consistent styles that hardcore has spawned, going strong since the turn of the millennia. The same goes for The Relic, moniker of Dutch producer Maurice Pinkster, who has been a steady contributor, and a key player of the scene since its humble beginnings. 

After starting as a producer in 1994, initially releasing on various labels, he found his first home on FIX Records and Neophyte’s Symp.tom, where he released a string of influential 12”es. After Symp.tom went defunct, he created his own label Dark.Descent. in order to be able to develop The Relic – and his various other projects like Zanthrax, Dual Mechanism, Hidden Rooms (dark acid techno) and of course Cubic Nomad (from hard rhythmic IDM to serene ambience) with complete artistic freedom. 

Pushing dark and industrial hardcore and techno forward, Dark.Descent has also released prolific artists like Embrionyc, Dep Affect, Sei2ure, Sound Abuse, Starving Insect and many more; The Relic has cooperated with artists such as Dep Affect, Moleculez, Innovative, Sidephex, Mute. and remixed the likes of Neophyte, Human Resource, Mono No Aware, Sacerdos Vigilia, Traffik, Embrionyc, Somatic Responses, ▲NGST or X-Core. 

The Relic now looks back at a triptych of bunker-themed full-length albums, all pinnacles of his extra-dark, trademark sound that has brought him wide recognition across genre borders. His reputation as a DJ is also more than rock solid, and many of his killer mixes can be found online or via the infamous “Ben Harder Show” which he co-founded.
