If you know late 1990s Moving Shadow/Audio Couture and the heavier side of that era's drum & bass, you might know Basic Unit. This is a fairly rare and unknown album released on the Nocturnal label. It's not easy to describe, with cold, bleak, unforgiving and metallic textures. Not really dance music, just totally out there in the cyborg darkness. Very impressive stuff, but definitely what you'd call 'mood music'. Ahead of its time... or entirely of its time yet still unique. You decide!
