Louis Romégoux is a musician and songwriter based in Elsecar, South Yorkshire. A born and bred Sheffielder of French/Welsh heritage, he returned, mid-pandemic, from Austria where he spent the last decade extensively gigging the bars, concert halls and festivals of Central and Southern Europe. His music encapsulates traditional folk in its free form, with influences from French chanson, to jangly indie and classic 60s orchestral pop.

Growing up in a family with a rich musical and comic heritage (his great-uncle was founding BBC Goon Show member and the late Welsh musical great – Sir Harry Secombe) and a former cathedral chorister, Louis is a classically-trained singer equally at home with German Lieder or free improvised jazz vocalisations. He has worked with a multitude of different genres and composers, from musical adaptations of Malcolm Lowry’s poetry with Alfred Polansky in Vienna, to gigging his own music at venues such as Ronnie Scott’s in London, to more recent projects such as writing and performing songs for a performance of Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’ with the Hey Up Theatre company in 2021. Having enjoyed successes with tours as a teenager during Sheffield’s blossoming music scene in the mid 2000s, he has opened for and toured with many artists over a 20 year career in the UK and central Europe, including Slow Club, Teddy Thompson, Reverend and the Makers, Balthazaar, The Veils, John Smith, The Midsommars and Broadlahn. Festival appearances include Tramlines (UK), Sound of the Forest (Germany), Lendwirbel (Austria) and Riba Rocks (Spain). This year he is one of the singers in The Sheffield Beatles Project and will be performing songs from ‘Abbey Road’ including many other favourites at The Octagon in December 2025.

Leadsänger Michael und Gitarrist Pascal legten den Grundstein für The Rootups als Duo, das aus einer früheren Band namens „Rockslide“ hervorging. Zu zweit bespaßten sie Gäste auf Geburtstagsfeiern und anderen Veranstaltungen, bis sie Unterstützung brauchten. Johnny gesellte sich nach feierlichem Betrinken zum Musikerduo und baute seine Harmonika in die Coverversionen ein. Es folgte David, der Quotenrothaarige, der die Band seitdem mit seiner langjährigen Erfahrung als Schlagzeuger bereichert. Zu viert konnten sie immer mehr Auftritte bewältigen und zur Krönung des Ganzen begann Johnny selbst zu komponieren und zu texten. Seine Titel „Circles“ oder „Come Closer“ beweisen, dass die Newcomer eine ordentliche Portion Talent mitbringen. Was noch fehlte um die Band komplett zu machen war die Bassline. Nach ein, zwei, fünfzehn gemeinsamen Bieren war klar, dass Matthias diesen Job übernehmen würde, weil er nicht nur feiern, sondern auch richtig gut Bass spielen kann. Damit sind The Rootups komplett und machen ihr eigenes, ganz spezielles Ding.
