Is the Hyenah from Joburg or from Berlin? It could be both, or maybe
neither. We don’t know. And we don’t really care because the music has hit
us in a huge way and we’re just happy to be bringing you this serious club
pressure with the debut Hyenah release here on Freerange. On lead track
The Wish (Dub) we’re treated to a percussion fueled, bass-heavy monster of
a track which balances the dextrous, fluid grooves of the Motherland with
immaculate teutonic sonics just perfectly. Slowly moving strings create a
wonderful tension as the rhythm builds in intensity with rattling drums
taking centre stage and jumping out of the mix like firecrackers.

Next up we have King Kobra which goes straight for the jugular with a
stripped-back, bare-bones groove, a beautifully simple percussion rhythm
becoming all you need for the main hook. Dubbed out deep house minimalism
is the name of the game here, with the hypnotic beats drawing you in and
the fat Hyenah production engulfing you like a sandstorm.

Flip over for a brilliant remix from our favorite French DJ and producer
Manoo.  This man has been responsible for some of the finest soul-tinged
and afro-infused house music over the last 10 years with releases on
Deeply Rooted House, Buzzin’ Fly and Real Tone.  His remixes for everyone
from Maya Jane Coles and Louis Vega to Osunlade and Terrence Parker are
testament to the skills possessed.  Once again Manoo delivers in spades
with this remix of The Wish, keeping the overall vibe intact but adding a
rolling bassline, extra vocal hits and extending the arrangement into a
most glorious ten minute workout.

We're very pleased to present to you our latest exclusive premiere, which comes courtesy of British producer Tim Green. His new EP is being released by Canadian label My Favorite Robot and "Seti" is one of the tracks on that release. 

"Seti" is built on a strong bassline, with lush female vocals drifting in and out of the background, echoing over the bassline while woodblock percussion supports the whole shebang. It's a real beauty this one!

A fresh hot Russian label Spaghetti Monster based in Moscow starts it’s activity with a killer release representing powerful disco-shaped track «Your Love» from a label owner Russian dj & music producer - Slow Crime which comes with sexy percussion and acid cymbals making your body shaking from first seconds. The EP continues with a deeper side presented by one of Steyoyoke residents an Italian guy Sasch which style has a recognizable shapes and grooves. Sasch’s deeper love remix makes you dive deeply in a strong bass and very melodic synths. An another version from Sasch which brings us the sound of middle 90-s and won’t have a digital release (vinyl only). And the last but not the least comes a real BOMB - supakillah remix from Off recordings residents and nice English duo - Vanilla Ace and Dharkfunkh. Renowned for their sublime, lyrical take on dance music, DC / Berlin based duo Benoit & Sergio return to their spiritual home of Visionquest with some freshly crafted groove ridden thrills. More set in the smoke and heat of the club than their vocalised bittersweet visions, the ‘Your Darkness’ EP showcases the duo at their dancefloor focused playful best whilst incorporating infectious vocal samples, searing melodies and pulsing rhythms. Opener ‘Splash’ is at once murky and tropical as the bassline grinds underneath light footed percussion whilst title track ‘Your Darkness’ is a deep and moody groover with signature rich synth work. Closing track ‘Beat Macho’ is a wayward beast with a darker edge and satisfyingly complex chugging framework that makes for a heady trip into the depths of the night.

 BACKGROUND
o+ Leaving an indelible mark on a selection of pioneering labels since 2009 - Spectral Sound, DFA, Hot Creations, Culprit and of course Visionquest have all fallen prey to Benoit & Sergio’s unique brand of sensuous electronics. The duo first appeared on Visionquest for the imprints’ inaugural release in 2011 ‘Where The Freaks Have No Name’ featuring the ubiquitous ‘Walk And Talk’ - a quintessential slice of romantic techno. Then in late 2012 the ‘New Ships EP’ further demonstrated the duo’s ability to mix visceral energy with the emotional.   

o+o Gaining the title of iTunes breakthrough electronic artists of the year in 2011 and featuring in RA’s best live act poll in 2011 and 2012, they also had the tracks ‘Everybody’, ‘Principles’, ‘Let Me Count The Ways’, and ‘Walk and Talk’ variously charted in top 20 year-end polls for Resident Advisor, Mixmag and DJ Mag. The duo have since been enlisted to remix heavyweights such as Matthew Dear, Metronomy, Hot Natured and covered Daft Punk.

o+o+ This year the duo is working on completing their long anticipated debut album co-produced with DARKSIDE aka Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington, and set to be released on the magically diverse Other People imprint. A single will be dropped as a teaser in the not too distant future.

It’s been a long time coming, the debut Slow Hands EP Everything (We Are) on Wolf + Lamb Records. Yes, you read that right, this is the first EP to be released by the long time W+L artist, Slow Hands.

Known to his friends & family as Ryan Cavanagh, the native Vermonter has maintained a career as both a live musician, and DJ through a consistent release of singles and remixes for W+L, as well as Permanent Vacation, K7, and Bedrock to name a few. With Everything (We Are), Cavanagh sets out to deliver a preview of the diversity that will be expressed in the great number of songs set to be released in the coming year, and longly anticipated LP.

The organic foundation is laid early with the funk fueled Miss White. A song steered by it’s live rhythm section, vocals, guitar, as well as it’s elaborate arrangement. Second Fiddle, a staple in Slow Hands’ recent live sets, is the very epitome of his traditional verse/chorus composition style over loose and energetic beats. The EP slows tempo with it’s title ballad Everything (We Are), a display of Cavanagh’s recently discovered raw vocals, and a powerfully emotional chorus, reinforced by the vocals of Dave Robertson.

Robertson, more widely known as Cameo Culture, who also acts as co-producer, and musician on this release, concludes the EP with a compelling rendition of the title song. Driving things home with a more rock inspired re-harmonization of Everything (We Are), Robertson augments what will be the theme of all forthcoming Slow Hands’ releases; organics, musicianship, and diversity.
